This past weekend the latest entry in the Halloween franchise, simply titled Halloween, grossed nearly $80 million at the domestic box office. With a horror renaissance currently booming, in addition to the fantastic opening, there is no doubt that Blumhouse will be revisiting Michael Myers at some point.

Among those celebrating the opening is Jason Blum. As head of the production company that has defined modern horror, the producer is itching to get a sequel made. Speaking to The Wrap he said:

It’s hard to make a great movie, period, and I always say, make a great movie first and we’ll figure out a franchise after. Of course we would want to make a sequel, in fact, we’re dying to make a sequel . . . there are a lot of people that have to be in the same mindset as us. Nothing’s been set in stone, but we’re certainly going to try.

With a runaway opening like this, it is no surprise that talks of a sequel have occurred, and according to Halloween co-writer and comedian Danny McBride, they might already have some ideas.

We definitely have ideas of what we would do. I think we did not allow ourselves to really indulge those ideas until the movie came out. We just wanted to put all our hopes and dreams in having this film stick the landing. But we do have thoughts and ideas of what we could possibly do. We hadn’t invested a ton of time on them, but now we’re being asked to figure it out. There are definitely talks on whether we will do more of them and we’re just trying to see what best makes sense.

Halloween is currently in theaters.

The roaring success of Halloween proves my theory! They are doing the same thing with Terminator...ignoring everything that came after the good films. The DC cinematic universe should do the same thing and just simply ignore everything that came after Man of Steel and start over.

Gotta give Jason Blum credit for making films that make millions on $5 budgets lol!!! Seriously though I have no doubt about a sequel.

@MrCamw1 - Gotta give it to Blum, he's been doing a great job lately. I mean yeah there's the purge movies, but those have a following and not everything's gonna be perfect, but with Upgrade and Halloween he's nailed it.

Hope he tackles Jason next, and finds the right people to breathe new life into it.

@JosephCronos92 - Exactly!! Also Get Out, Split, Truth Or Dare (I hated that movie but it made money) Happy Death Day. Blum makes a low budget work and lets his filmmakers do what they want which I can appreciate. And yes, Blumhouse should tackle Friday the 13th. Hell Id give them Candyman IF they could make it work(Candymans one of my DONT TOUCH THE ORIGINAL films).

@MrCamw1 - Heck i'd give him the fly now that we're at it lol he's really good. Get Out and Split are amazing bruh, haven't seen TOD but if a dumb idea like that movie worked and had success, then goddamn he's better than i think lol

Hope he keeps the good work coming for the years to come.

@JosephCronos92 - Blumhouse has nothing to lose so I can see it getting bigger easily. Regarding Truth Or Dare there was another Truth or Dare movie that came out last year thats on Netflix. If you watch that one first and then watch the Blumhouse one from this year I think youll appreciate the Blumhouse film more lol. The Fly is interesting since its already a remake of another Fly so that could work.

@MrCamw1 - huh interesting i'll gie both a watch this weekend, thanks for the headsup. Yeah i really want to watch an updated version of The Fly, seeing what Blum is able to do has given me hope but time will tell.

Candyman's also been on my mind as well, really hope he can get his hands on deck with both of those.

I always thought it would have been cool to reveal that Meyers has cancer and that is why he is so dead set on killing Laurie because she's the one that got away. I think it's a great way to add humanity to the Boogyman if they did it right.

Our they could have the women hunting Michael down like Loomis and turn the tables on him.

I loved this movie, but I don't want a sequel. Even with the same team behind it I just don't see how it could avoid falling into the same traps as the original's follow-ups did. They would have to come up with a completely original idea that moved beyond Myers stalking Laurie or her granddaughter or whatever.

@RorMachine - This new movie did a good job reminding the audience that Michael Myers doesn’t care about Laurie. She isn’t his sister, they don’t have some kooky psychic connection. He’s a mindless killing machine that goes after anyone who happens to cross his path. Were it not for another character’s silly intervention, in this movie, Laurie and Michael wouldn’t have crossed paths.

Knowing Hollywood, the sequel will involve Michael Myers and Laurie trying to kill each other again. I wonder what ridiculously convenient justification the screenwriters will come up with to make that happen…

@santoanderson - True, he's a Shark, goes from easy victim to easy victim, Laurie Strode means nothing to him, he's probably incapable of such thoughts, he has a disorder, can't run, walks down the street in full view of everyone, if it wasn't for the ridiculous Doctor side plot Myers would've been shot or arrested, and wouldn't have been at Strodes house, plus they insisted he was mortal again, but in this film he ain't mortal, can crush a human skull with one foot, break a mans back in half, crush a guys jaw, throw a guy around of equal size and weight with absolute ease, walk around after being run over by a car at about 60 miles an hour, shot in the arm and side of the head, probably survive burning alive, hes immortal, super human. It's becomes ridiculous even when they try to avoid it.

@santoanderson - The way I viewed it was that he didn't return to Haddonfield with the intention of killing her, but when he saw her there was some recognition. But yes, the doctor nonsense was basically just a way to get them face to face.

Given this movie’s opening weekend, and the franchise’s love of sequels, Halloween 2 is inevitable. Let’s hope it doesn’t suck.

Man i got the chance to wath Halloween and A Star Is Born this past weekend and all i gotta say is:

It's been a dry month here in my country regarding movies, with venom being the only "big release" (whicch i'm skipping) it was f*kng boring, but thankfully i got the chance to watch them abd it was worth all the money and time spent on them.

A Star Is Born was wonderful, Gaga and Bradley did terrific, Bradley's got a great eye for directing, loved the movie.

Halloween was terrific, great way to blend old school slasher movies with up to date filmmaking,i loved how character focused the movie is, they atually wanted to tell a story inbetween the blood and guts and not only focus on the blood, i like that. Jamie Lee Curtis was amazing, the rest of the cast was great as well, some little cliches here and there but hey Halloween was the root of those cliches so i'll give them a pass lol. It was so f**kng good, wathing it again this weekend.
