After a year-long delay courtesy of our old pal 'Rona, Halloween Kills is set to slash its way into theaters next month, and Universal Pictures has now shared one final trailer to get horror fans even more hyped for the return of "The Shape."

With Laurie Strode recovering in hospital, Michael Myers continues his murderous rampage through the streets of Haddonfield, but this time, the the neighborhood has banded together and vowed to put an end to the boogeyman once and for all. Of course, we know from experience that's much easier said than done, and this latest teaser sees Michael dispatch a lot of new victims.

Be warned, there are several spoiler-y shots here, and while events might play out differently in the movie itself, it certainly looks like at least one main character's death is signposted.

Minutes after Laurie Strode (Curtis), her daughter Karen (Judy Greer) and granddaughter Allyson (Andi Matichak) left masked monster Michael Myers caged and burning in Laurie’s basement, Laurie is rushed to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, believing she finally killed her lifelong tormentor. But when Michael manages to free himself from Laurie’s trap, his ritual bloodbath resumes. As Laurie fights her pain and prepares to defend herself against him, she inspires all of Haddonfield to rise up against their unstoppable monster. The Strode women join a group of other survivors of Michael’s first rampage who decide to take matters into their own hands, forming a vigilante mob that sets out to hunt Michael down, once and for all. Evil dies tonight.

Halloween Kills slices its way into theaters this October.

The thing I liked about the last one was how it kinda flipped the Michael and Laurie roles in terms of who was hunting who. It also kinda did a Terminator 2 with it. In fact since I mentioned it, the horror elements are what have really been missing in all the Terminator films since T2. But these new Halloween films know they can’t get by on suspense like the original, so they’ve merged horror with action and it works really well. As someone who thinks horror films are quite lazy these days, we do seem to be getting a revival these last few years where they’ve stopped relying on jump scares.
