Had the pandemic not reared its ugly head, Halloween Kills would have been released earlier this month. The horror sequel was recently pushed back to next October, but Blumhouse has now debuted a teasing glimpse of some footage to make the wait a little less torturous.

The first trailer, which screened during today's virtual BlumFest panel, begins with a voiceoiver from Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis), who appears to be under no illusions about Michael Myers' survival and fully expects him to return to continue his murderous night-time pursuits.

Sure enough, we then get a glimpse of the masked maniac dispatching a victim, followed by shots of returning cast members Judy Greer and Andi Matichak, who will reprise their roles as Laurie's daughter and granddaughter, respectively.

Kyle Richards will also returns as Lindsey Wallace from John Carpenter's original Halloween, while Anthony Michael Hall will play Tommy Doyle, another character Michael terrorized in the 1978 film.

Check out the teaser below and let us know what you think.

As great as Halloween 2018 was, let's hope this next installment is more than just a stale rehash and doesn't make the same mistakes that many of the sequels to John Carpenter's original did back in the day.

Halloween Kills slices its way into theatres on October 15. Halloween Ends will conclude the new trilogy in 2022.

@Desrow - wonder why they didn't get the original actor, maybe Paul Rudd.

@dracula - they tried but he was committed to Ghostbusters Afterlife. From what I heard Rudd wanted return as Halloween 6, as bad as it was did start Rudd’s career.

@fanboy03191 - Heck Rudd even went to a horror con a few years ago- something few A-Listers do. He is truly a good dude and grateful for what he has and doesn’t forget his roots.

@fanboy03191 - Wonder if they asked the original actor, they got the original little girl from the original.

@dracula - he's not that great looking anymore, and his acting isn't up to par, so they got someone with acting skills and he's better looking too. He's a great choice.

@Se4M4NSt4ine - I don't like the fact that the mask is damaged... as a multi-generational villain i think it should be timeless in many aspects including its looks being no different than when it was first presented in the first movie... not keen on the LED rope lights on the porches either... no need to modernize it in that way.
Basically, if you can preserve the original but build new stories and depth on it... it only emboldens the original's impact and staying power...
It some respects its a similar gripe i have for Iron Man... he doesn't need nano-tech-make-whatever-i-dream suits... he is best when challenged with old hardware. We could easily put a tracker RFID on Cap's shield, ect... but it loses the focus of its purity.

@JonC - you’re definitely not wrong man. But I think as films adapt through time, so does the audiences in how they react to them?

Like for example, Citizen Kane is one of the greatest films ever. (IMO) But my 8 year-old nephew has no interest in watching it because it’s labelled “old.”

So I believe, if you bring a pre-existing film, that was very much a product of its time, it will only translate to modern audiences if you blend it with current generational nostalgia - whilst still retaining what kept the original so unique to its own ethos.

@dracula - it was a day after....feels like coincidence but you never know really.

Maybe they knew he was going to be hired.

@dracula - A fan on Instagram asked Gunn if Marvel would've rehired him without knowing he was doing SS for DC. Gunn said he knows for a fact they would because Marvel didn't know about SS when approached him again about the rehiring.
