HALLOWEEN Scares Its Way To An $80 Million Opening; Takes Aim At VENOM's October Opening Weekend Record

This record-breaking October shows no sign of slowing down as Halloween is rolling toward a potential $80.3 million opening weekend, which would match or top the record set by Venom earlier this month.

It's been just three weeks since Sony's Venom set a new opening weekend record for October with an $80.26 million debut, but, if the current projections hold, it looks like that record may be broken a lot sooner than anyone may have expected - and by Michael Myers, no less.

According to the latest numbers, Blumhouse and Universal's well-received Halloween reboot, which also scored a B+ CinemaScore, scared up $33.3 million on Friday and is now on track for a launch in the $80.3 million to $81 million range, narrowly breaking Venom's October opening weekend record. The Jamie Lee Curtis-starrer is also on track to have the second-largest opening weekend ever for a horror film, coming in a distant second to Warner Bros. and New Line's It.

Venom continues to hold strong and is heading to an $18 million-plus weekend, taking its domestic cume to $170.5 million worldwide and once the international numbers come in, the Tom Hardy-starrer should be well past $400 million to $450 million worldwide in its third frame.

Warner Bros.' A Star Is Born should finish second with $19 million ($165 million worldwide), Sony's Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween will finish fourth
with $10.1 million ($32 million worldwide), and Universal's First Man is expected to finish in fifth place with a disappointing $8.8 million ($40 million worldwide).

Jamie Lee Curtis returns to her iconic role as Laurie Strode, who comes to her final confrontation with Michael Myers, the masked figure who has haunted her since she narrowly escaped his killing spree on Halloween night four decades ago.

Halloween features:
Director: David Gordon Green
Jamie Lee Curtis as Laurie Strode
Judy Greer as Karen Strode
Andi Matichak as Allyson Strode
Will Patton, as Frank Hawkins
Virginia Gardner as Vicky
Nick Castle & James Jude Courtney as Michael Myers/The Shape
Toby Huss as Ray
Jefferson Hall as Aaron Korey
Rhian Rees as Dana Haines
Miles Robbins, as Dave, Vicky's boyfriend.
Dylan Arnold, as Cameron Elam
Drew Scheid as Oscar
Omar J. Dorsey as Sheriff Barker
Rob Niter as Deputy Sheriff Walker
Jibrail Nantambu as Julian
Haluk Bilginer as Dr. Ranbir Sartain
Nick McKeever as Deputy Keeve

Awesome movie! Love how the familiar intensity, the jump scares, the dread and that perfect theme song melted together for one spooktacular thrill ride!

Well deserved! Such a good Halloween entry.

Definitely a better time in the theater watching this than Venom, and I didn't hate Venom.

I hope it beats Venoms opening. No disrespect to Venom but a movie called Halloween should have the biggest opening for the month of Halloween. Also I really enjoyed Halloween. Also again Happy Birthday to me!!!

It's not just easily the best Halloween since the original, it's really good.
Also, I don't know if I've said it already, but Daredevil S3 is a masterpiece.

@ClungePool

It already is! 80 mil opening weekend. Movie was made for 10 mil 😳

Pantherpool - 10/20/2018, 3:21 PM
@ClungePool - Since IT cost $35M and Halloween $10M, it won't have to make IT money to be equally successful. Even a $450-500M WW total would make it just as profitable, if not more.

@BoyWonder - And on top of that, this movie is being released at a time where a lot of people are looking for a good horror movie to see. So there was really no doubt in my mind that Halloween was going to do big numbers

@JohnMarston220 - I'm just afraid this will launch another remake parade that Hollywood did back in '08 until '12 with the original horror icons like Freddy, Pinhead, and others getting remade left and right.

I want good entries. Not quick souless cash grabs
JohnMarston220
JohnMarston220 - 10/21/2018, 10:46 AM
@SonOfAGif - Oh yes I agree, but at the same time it's the perfect time to make a new Elm Street and Friday the 13th movie. I just don't want them treating it as a cash grab and making a half assed slasher. They need to make it with same love and care that Halloween 2018 got.

Honestly I wouldn't mind if they were all under Blumhouse's wing. They've proven themselves enough to make some really great, and fun horror films.
