I remember when I first watched Scream. I was 8, and I was with my friends around Halloween and we were pumped to be watching an R-rated movie. And of course it went as you would expect: it scared the living shit out of us. As I got older, I scoffed at how scared I was. Scream isn't really balls to the wall scary, its more of a horror comedy than anything that pokes at the cliches and tropes of the horror genre. And it does that very well.
