SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME Director Jon Watts To Produce FINAL DESTINATION 6 For HBO Max

Spider-Man: No Way Home director Jon Watts is set to try his hand at the horror genre by producing and writing the treatment for New Line's Final Destination relaunch, which will debut on HBO Max.

New Line is planning a relaunch of its highly lucrative Final Destination franchise, and Spider-Man: No Way Home director Jon Watts has joined the creative team as a producer. He also wrote the story treatment for the project, which is being developed for the HBO Max streaming service.

Watts’ wife and partner, Dianne McGunigle, is also producing, along with original Final Destination producers Craig Perry and Sheila Hanahan Taylor. Lori Evans Taylor and Guy Busick are penning the screenplay.

Unlike other recent horror revivals which dropped the numbers from their titles, the movie is currently known as "Final Destination 6," which suggests that it will be a continuation and not a full reboot (although this series never really focused on the same characters from movie to movie, anyway).

“Both Dianne and I have been massive fans of Final Destination from the very beginning,” Watts said in a statement. “So to be able to have a hand in crafting a new story with the original team and New Line is going to be both fun and exciting.”

The first Final Destination was directed by James Wong and starred Devon Sawa as a teenager who has a terrifying premonition and manages to convince several of his schoolmates to leave the plane they just boarded. When the plane crashes and the characters cheat Death, they soon begin to die in increasingly gory and elaborate ways.

Watts' next project as director is still expected to be Marvel Studios' Fantastic Four reboot, which has yet to be dated.

@AmazingFILMporg - I mean, it would've happened, with or without him, his directing brings nothing new to the table.

I hope another director takes helm of the next trilogy.

@kingjoeg - he's just producing. Helping write a Final destination film isn't necessarily something that would take long.

The first one was ok and one other along the line, but most blew.

Let's be honest though, these films are mediocre murder porn and people only watch them to see the "inventive" ways they kill off characters.

Turns out it was a vision.

They escape the event.

They all die one by one.

They investigate and try to cheat death by the order they died💁.

I really don't know how they can top Final Destination 5. That ending was honestly a genius way to wrap up the series.

But..... I'll 100% be back if I see my dude Tony Todd return.

The Final Destination series definitely needs something new to make it continue. The whole teens/adults being brutally killed in chaotic accidents after cheating death can only be entertaining for so on. How about an actual survivor like Clear Rivers but this time let them become a master at cheating death that Death is losing control of the narrative and chaos is happening around every corner? Would be interesting to feel death getting so pissed off at this survivor that it's causing the most destruction trying to kill them.

@SonOfAGif - I like the idea of Death trying to kill someone so many times that they develop a Batman/Joker-esque relationship.

Given his movie, Clown, I can see him being interested in this. I don’t think Clown was all that great overall, but all the same.
