THE INCREDIBLE HULK 2 Would Have Featured "Grey Hulk [And] Red Hulks" According To Director Louis Leterrier

In many respects, The Incredible Hulk remains the black sheep of the Marvel Studios family. However, that does look likely to change as we get deeper into the Multiverse Saga.

Abomination returned in last year's She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, while The Leader and Red Hulk will take centre stage in Captain America: Brave New World. Looking even further down the line, it's been widely reported that a World War Hulk project is in the works.

The Incredible Hulk never got a direct sequel, with the Jade Giant instead becoming a lead character in The Avengers movies. Now, the 2008 blockbuster's director, Louis Leterrier, has shared new details about what he had planned for The Incredible Hulk 2

"Yeah there was like a whole sequel," the filmmaker tells ComicBook.com. "There was like Grey Hulk, Red Hulks...there was a lot of good stuff that we were planning."

"Hulk is a complex character within the Marvel Universe," Leterrier continues. "You want the primaeval Hulk...the rage Hulk. And then when you go Grey Hulk and Smart Hulk you lose that a little bit and you get a little bit more kiddish with it."

"But that was the fun of where I was in my movie, with the access to consciousness and all that stuff. That was really fun. And that's what I was aiming to do. But take my time with it. Because there are so many characters they want it all fast [Laughs]."

Red Hulk was actually introduced the same year The Incredible Hulk arrived in theaters. Based on these comments, it seems Marvel Studios wanted to waste no time in introducing that villain and having the Green Goliath evolve into Grey Hulk (an idea once considered for Avengers: Age of Ultron).

Leterrier concluded the interview by suggesting his vision for Bruce Banner differed greatly from where the character has since headed. "I like She-Hulk," he notes, "but then you know, yoga between Hulk and...I was like 'Okay! yeah, we're very far from my Hulk.'"

@Slotherin - I'm guessing Hulk trying to control his toxic rage that makes him less of a man? I think Fogs might be completely missing the point of the character lol

With flils like Love and Thunder, Iron Man 2, Dark World, Antman 3 and 2... The Incredible Hulk is the black sheep? Ngl, I've lost interest in the Hulk at this point. I enjoyed the 2008 film even though it was stripped of a lot of it's meat in post production. Hope they release a extended version in 4k one day, with the original intro and the conversation between samson and Banner restored.

@PlusUltra - I just weren't feeling Cap1 as much as everyone else. It's not a bad movie but I didn't seem to enjoy it as much as the others 🤣

@TheClunges - It just a wholesome movie with a pulpy vibe that cements Cap’s character as “not a perfect soldier, but a good man”.

@PlusUltra - [frick] yeah. It was the perfect vibe for him and Johnston was a great fit as director.

The MCU hired an action director who likes the character in the comics, and guess what, he gave us the best depiction of this character in this entire franchise. Perhaps take some of your old notes, MCU, and go back to what you used to do.

The CGi was a little off at times but all in all, I thought the 2008 film was enjoyable and a little underrated. I still prefer Norton's take on Banner to Ruffalo, even though Ruffalo has clearly made the role his own by now.

I always liked Grey Hulk. I always hated Red Hulk haha.

But in general 2008 Incredible Hulk is still my favourite Hulk content that Marvel has put out.

@TheManWithoutFear - I feel like I'd like Red Hulk more if he had the stache. Incidentally this is my only issue so far with Harrison Ford as Ross

Honestly I don’t care at all about, Grey Hulk, Red Hulk, Professor Hulk, She Hulk or any other iterations! Just give me classic tortured scientist Bruce Banner and his rage monster alter Hulk!

Disney is actively figuring out how to DEI & ruin a solo Hulk movie.

Why do they keep saying red hulk is going to be in Brave New World? That has not been confirmed and its just fan boy speculation. Because as soon as the credits roll on BNW people are going to be pissed cause Red Hulk didnt show. Now im not saying that he is or isnt going to be in, but just to keep saying he is, without 100% confirmation is just dumb. Now do I think we might get a tease of him, yea.
Scarilian

@HammerLegFoot -
Best guess is that he gets disgraced in that film and ends up using some vial to become Red Hulk. Then Thunderbolts will retcon him into a good guy and he'll be the core reason they are called Thunderbolts when he sacrifices himself.

Hulk is canonically dead, either murdered by Bruce Banner as Endgame states OR sacrifices himself to merge with Bruce as per the deleted scenes from Infinity War.

I'm sure they'll ignore that though and just pretend Hulk still exists.

I always stood by Incredible Hulk. Is it the best? No but it's definitely a pretty good time. I feel like people don't give that movie enough respect. Wish Leterrier had gotten a chance to make a better movie in the sequel at least
