Don Cheadle On IRON MAN 4, The War Machine Armor And IRON MAN 3 Improvisation

In a recent interview with Access Hollywood, Don Cheadle talked about Iron Man 3 and addressed the chances for a sequel: "I think if people like you make enough noise about it there’ll be an Iron Man 4." Hit the jump for the video.

According to Don Cheadle, suiting up in Iron Man 3 was not cool at all. "It's very hot and pretty uncomfortable," he said with a smile, then admitted that he enjoyed his experience outside of the armor much more. After claiming that Downey Jr.'s Iron Man suit was much lighter and more comfortable, Cheadle quipped, "I think it's racism."

Asked about the possibility of Iron Man 4, Cheadle said, "I think if people like you make enough noise about it there’ll be an Iron Man 4. I mean, hopefully. I think there's more to mine.

"It’s going to be determined definitely by Marvel, and if they think there’s another aspect of the story that needs to be told that wasn't covered in the trilogy, if there’s another way in that’s interesting. Because you don't want to just keep going to the well and have it be something where you're ending it and should have ended it a long time ago. I'd rather leave them wanting more than go too far. But we'll see. You know, these Marvel universes are vast, and characters can show up in each other's movies. And Avengers is whole other series of possibilities. Who knows?"

Cheadle further said that improvisation was encouraged and occurred throughout the process, but that they narrowed things down and came to an understanding of the scene before they were actually shooting on set.

Cheadle also took the chance to praise Ben Kingsley, saying that "he really classed up the piece for us," and then going on to say that he enjoyed getting to meet one of his own heroes.

guess that explains why he was barely in the suit in the film, they could have just mocapped him like they did in number, anyway I was dissapointed with his role in film, thought he was going to do something useful and memorable

I don't know. I don't think we need a fourth Iron Man movie. Just let Iron Man appear in Avengers 2 and that's it for him.

@MikeHawk how on earth am I trolling?, "stop discouraging the hype" how am I doing that exactly, find me a comment where am I'm acting like a troll, am I calling the film dumb, shit, a waste of time etc. Think before you make claims like that.

@MikeHawk - Ocelot is a Marvel drone, buddy. And he's right, the best people outside of RDJ are Cheadle and Kingsley, and they're not in the movie enough.

Man, when this gets released in the states, we have to talk about the similarities to TDKR. Even right down to the final fight.

my good sir, what about the fans who havent seen the movie yet and are big fans of the characters out of tony stark?
"thought he was gonna do something useful or memorable" now it sucks to walk into the theater knowin i wont get much of war machine/iron patriot action. In general, dont mention the movie until its more widely released, better for all of us

So disappointed in the movie. They should've just saved the mandarin for the next one. Oh well, looking forward to MOS.

Though his performance is good, I thought Terrance Howard delivered a better performance and had better chemistry with RDJ than Don Cheadle does.

@ MikeHawk - Be mad at Marvel, not him. Plus...lower your expectations. You're thinking you're getting The Avengers, you're not, you're getting a slighty better movie than Thor.

@MikeHawk Just because I think he doesn't do anything useful it's doesn't mean you will think the same when you watch the movie, some people who I've discussed the movie with, think he does do something useful and memorable, the same with others on the site. You might end up finding his role in the movie sufficient to what you expect.

also if I'd given a rundown, list and description of all of rhodes scenes in the movie, then yeah you could have called me a troll, but I didn't, I only voiced my dissapointment in relation to I believe his role in the film is. That is my opinion. Like I said think before you start branding people as trolls.

A really good movie! Not enough Iron Man in it you say? Tony Stark IS Iron Man!

Didnt care much for the extremis soldier's powers, but the whole 80's early 90's action vibe made for a great time at the cinema. Ben Kingsley was best in show.

Avoid the 3d tho, too dark a movie for 3d-conversion. Added absolutely nothing and took away seeing what the hell happened at times.

Well, even if there's no Iron Man 4, we'll see Tony Stark at least one more time if the statement after the end credits scene is true: "Tony Stark will return". It makes me think that they're treating the Iron Man series almost like James Bond as that statement appears at the end of every Bond film. Iron Man 3 simply rocked by the way!

*SPOILER ALERT*

Genuinely shocked at all the hate this film is getting because of it's so called 'twist'. I actually thought that bit fo the story was thematically perfect with the story and characters and was pretty classy.

The angle is not so much that Trevor isn't the Mandarin - it's the fact that Killian IS! Everything he does, says, acts - the way he manipulates people and media. The way he works behind the scenes it's totally Mandarin.

Sorry if he didn't sport some dark facial hair and a Kimono!!! And to say that IM3 is worse than IM2 is totally [frick]ed up! I know it's only opinions BUT I could not DISAGREE MORE!!
BlackFlash
BlackFlash - 4/30/2013, 12:37 AM
The only thing I didn't like about the movie had nothing to do with the Mandarine, [spoiler] but the end fight when all the suits show up and Rhodey ask Tony to hook him up with a one and Tony says no they only work for me. [spoiler] That bit pissed me off more then anything in the movie, especially since the best part of IM2 was them back to back taking on the drones.

I like RDJ but his power to give certain characters more screen time over others is fu*ked up.

@blackflash, I totally agree with your statement. I thought I was trolling.
in that moment I just saw Robert Downey Jr not Tony Stark. Rhodes wore the iron man suit ( red and gold) in the comics, but not in the movies. It felt like Robert was a spoil brat not wanting to share his toys. Rhodes was a side kick not his partner.
Nothing against Chedle, Terrance had the charisma that was needed to play Rhodes. any other movie I watched with Terrance in it, never have I seen Terrance such an over emotional character until this movie. watching Robert this time confirms my opinion. @ least he didn't have daddy issues in this one.

Iron Man 4...bah,i think it's time to reboot,in 3 movies only 1 is really good, the 2 was acceptable but the 3 was even worse.
In IM4 they must make the real Mandarin with a GREAT story and not a silly comedy or nothing sequel.

If they decide not to do another Iron Man, then I would arrange a contract for RDJ to appear in the Avengers films and maybe pop up in some of the others. That way they can keep the character involved and not burn out everyone (including RDJ)

I would like to see a series of movies based off of the Marvel Two in One and Marvel Team Up comic book runs.
For example- don't do Iron Man 4 but maybe a Iron Man/Hulk team up vs Modok/AIM or a Dr Strange/Iron Man film with Dormammu and the Mandarin(with powered rings) as villains
GeekyCheekyChic
GeekyCheekyChic - 4/30/2013, 6:03 AM
I don't want to see Iron Man alone/solo film again. His rogues gallery just doesn't support it. Avengers 2,GOTG,Avengers 3 yes- more Stark.

JoshBerger - 4/30/2013, 6:26 AM
Don Cheadle was fantastic in this movie,I actually cared about the character this time around...he didn't do anything in IM2 besides stealing the armour and kind of help Tony defeat Whiplash and the drones. Rhodey deserved a LOT more screen time,he got more than last time, but this time I really felt like I wanted to see more of him.

Awesome movie no matter what the haters say.
Timerider84
Timerider84 - 4/30/2013, 7:53 AM
I would rather they just cameo him here and there, like Avengers 2, etc. No moe solo films I agree. As far as Invincible Iron Man, save that for the reboot. Robert Downey Jr. Is awesome as Tony, but he can't play him forever. It will be really hard to recast him, when the time comes for it.

RDJ is hardly in his armor for Iron Man 3, he's more like a detective/Jason Bourne in this.
