IRON MAN 2 Star Sam Rockwell Would Like To Return To The Marvel Cinematic Universe As Justin Hammer

The movie may have been something of a mess but Sam Rockwell's Justin Hammer was a definite highlight in Iron Man 2. The question is, will he return to the MCU at some point? He certainly seems to hope so!

Iron Man 2 had a lot to deal with, especially as it was one of the final Phase 1 Marvel movies released before The Avengers. As well as dealing with that, the sequel introduced a lot of characters to Tony Stark's world, most of whom we haven't seen since. The highlight was Sam Rockwell's villainous Justin Hammer, someone who popped up in a Marvel One-Shot but deserves a lot more screentime.

During a recent interview to promote Oscar favourite Three Billboards, Rockwell was asked about reprising the role of Justin Hammer somewhere down the line and he seems enthusiastic about it!

"Of course," he responded in regards to whether he has any interest in playing Hammer again. "I have some great buddies in that franchise. Jeremy Renner is a good friend of mine, and I am pals with Chris Evans and Mark Ruffalo. Robert [Downey Jr.] is always fun. Would love to get me and Clark [Gregg] back in that franchise. That would be a lot of fun." The question is, will he get chance to?

We'll have to wait and see on that front but if Robert Downey Jr.'s tenure as Iron Man is coming to an end, it may be hard to find a place for the villain unless he squares off with another Marvel superhero.

Well, he's still alive.

By far the best part of IM2. Rockwell always delivers.

@BloodyBed - I would love to see him in the Spiderman sequel.

Who wouldn't want to be part of the MCU at this point? Especially if you've already been in one of the movies and are still alive.

Really silly question, and not article worthy tbh.

@Goldboink - I think Momoa would change his tune now. Not publicly of course, because that would be massive egg on his face.

@sprovo - Hugo Weaving loves to bad mouth any franchise that makes him "second". He bashed Transformers because he recorded all his lines in a 2 hour day and said the idea of voice acting is a chore and hates how actors are not accommodated or something like that. To which Michael Bay roasted him.

I would love to see him back. Every scene he was in was engaging. There is nobody like that in the MCU now.

@TimberKing - I found klau and Killmonger to be pretty engaging.

I propped up in my seat whenever they showed up on screen.

@BloodyBed - Lol. Every time I see your handle I laugh. And yes those characters were great. I actually found Klau to be very refreshing the way he was playing him.

@TimberKing - serkis reminded me of Ledger's joker, how his presence just filled the screen, and he came off as a terrifying person I would not want to be in the same room with.

even if I knew it was an actor in costume.

@BloodyBed - Definitely more twisted in Black Panther then he was in Age of Ultron.

Sam Rockwell is awesome and I'd love to see him back in the MCU. That being said, I also hope his Justin Hammer the next time he appears is closer to the comic version (namely much more ruthless and not a Tony Stark wannabe).

@Kozmik - I think him being a Tony Stark wannabe is kind of funny as Rockwell was named before Downey as a choice for Stark, and pretty sure I have read Downey sort of based Stark on Rockwell's performances.

@CurlyBill - sure. Spider and Justin Hammer have interacted before in the comics. Personally though, the MCU character I most want to see in Spiderman Homecoming 2 is KINGPIN

@CurlyBill - personally I’d rather Spidey face one of his classic villains that hasn’t been adapted yet (Kraven, Mysterio, Chameleon, Scorpion, etc)

@noahthegrand -
Kingpin is unfortunately unlikely due to appearing in Marvel.

I could see Norman Osborn being reworked into a Kingpin style character though, especially if they want to avoid doing the Green Goblin anytime soon.

Great in Iron Man 2. It would nice to see him released from prison and get revenge on Tony Stark
