Mickey Rourke Says He's NOT Doing Iron Man 2

New York Magazine's Vulture blog caught up to the Oscar nominated actor who told them, "Right now we're not doing Iron Man 2."

The mag asked who would Rourke be taking as his date to the Oscars, if he's signed onto Iron Man 2 yet and what happened with his appearance at Wrestlemania 25...

[So] who will accompany Rourke to the Kodak Theatre on Sunday? "Unfortunately, my agent," he told us in defeat.

But so what if ICM's David Unger doesn't look good in a dress — at least he's battling Marvel for a bigger paycheck for Rourke for his rumored role as a villain in Iron Man 2, right? "Right now, we're not doing Iron Man 2," Rourke told us grimly.

He did have some good news, though. Following the widespread disappointment over his canceled appearance at the upcoming WrestleMania 25, Rourke told us he'll still be there, just not in the ring: "We're gonna go in support. Vince McMahon, Roddy Piper, and Rick Flair have been such a part of the movie ... So whatever support I can give back to all those people from WWE, I'm gonna do that."

We only had time for one last question, so we asked who actually torpedoed Rourke's plans to actually wrestle at WrestleMania, him or his publicist? Since his flack answered for him ("We don't need to talk about that"), and then pulled him away, we're going to assume that it wasn't Rourke.

wah wah waaaaaaah. No Rourke in IM2. Not too terribly disappointing IMO.

OFF TOPIC: The GL FAN ART CONTEST is still going. It's been archived on the main page, but it's still in the "Features" section. There are roughly a dozen entries so far and it's going until the 22nd (Sunday) so please, come by, check out the entries, and if you're so inclined, enter yourself.

I just posted JamesH's entry, it's freakin' amazing.

That's what I'm sayin' Shaman, if the actor don't really want the part then NEEEXXT.

Plus I can think of 100 other actors I'd like to see in an IronMan movie before Rourke !!

I'm not too torn up about this...actually not at all, lol.

I was looking for someone smaller and on the level as RDJr size to fit into Armor like the animations WhipLash (If that's who MR was suppose to play)

I have to say that I am a little dissappointed. I hope that something gets worked out, and Rourke may still be able to take on the role. He's a little gun-shy, and that's understandable, but I would think that he would jumpt at the chance to get to be in a huge tentpole project like IM2?!

I do agree that it wouldn't be a HUGE dissappointment, but I do really like Rourke, and I think it would have added a little credibility to the role.

Is there any new news on Rockwell? Has he made any comments about his role in the film? I haven't heard from him in a while, and I hope that this won't effect his decision to be a part of the film.

I'm going to agree with the general sentiment on here about this. Mickey Rourke is a great actor and I love him in just about anything he does, but if it's this much trouble to nail him down for the movie, then maybe that's a sign that he shouldn't be in it. Whether it's ego, money or whatever, inevitably after this long there will probably be hard feelings/problems about the whole process. Then we'll have to hear about it during and after the movie is made. And all of that could affect future use of the character in other movies.

I mean it wasn't this much trouble nailing down RDJR, Paltrow, and Bridges for the first one, why should it be such a chore to get Rourke for this one? When it's all said and done I'm sure they will get somebody just as talented to fill whatever role they were looking at him for.

This isn't a disapointment, its not like it was a role that was made for him (unlike Sam Jackson as Nick Fury), they will get someone else who can play the role just as well.

Who turns down a role in a comic/game movie? Unless Uwe Bol-fart is directing. Then run like hell. Glad blizzard told him to piss off when he tried getting his hands on the Warcraft movie.

Ive read all the responses here and everyone seems to be saying Rourke is hard to get for the role.

I was under the impression that HE was the one chasing the role and in the end, didnt get it. What's the real scoop on this? Would be unfair to Rourke to get all these negative responses when it was Marvel who didnt want him.

So, Anybody who knows the actual score... Did Marvel prefer a different actor over him or Rourke was playing hard to get?

YEAH! just cause he made a bit of a comeback doesn't mean he can cloud up the IRON MAN II set. I say with a diabolical laughter,"GOOD RIDDANCE".

Rourke doesn't even reconise when something is there for him... He doesn't want to make another Sin City? Marv, the character he was "born to play?" He got friggin' lucky with The Wrestler, and that'll probably be curtains for him anyways. He blows... and he blew bigtime as a wannabe Boxer. What sportsman does the wannabe, wannabe next? The Hockey Player? Iron Man II will fly without him and his weirdness.
Wait, I got the new "perfect" role for him... The Comebacker.

Bum.

"He got Lucky with The WRestler?...yeah i guess truly masterful performances are all about luck arnt they? your little "burn" makes no sense since if you actually read the article its his management that seem to want him to steer clear of Iron Man, probably because he wont be making much money from it..anyway i think things will be different WHEN he wins the oscar, his publicist prpbably doesnt want him to be associated with something like that in case it hurts his chances..same with Wrestelmania

The case with Rourke is the same with Jackson, JamesH. There have been articles here about it in the recent past. Marvel offered the roles to them but they don't accept the paycheck that comes with it. They want more. You'll never HEAR the actors say that they want more because it would tarnish their fanbase, but that's the issue at hand. Marvel wants as much profit from this movie as possible so that they can really make their baby AVENGERS fly with very little obstructions ... like money. So, they know damn well that their upcoming movies will rock the boxoffice and they know damn well that it'll happen with unknowns just as much as stars. Marvel would "prefer" stars because they do bring in "security" as for buts in the seats but they know for certain that on the long run, they're projects will still rake in even if they don't take first place on opening day. So greedy stars like Rourke and Jackson are totally expendable. Take the stalone movie "expendables" for example, Van Damme was offered a role that could have revamped his career but said no. Obviously, it was either he was too gready or that he didn't wanna share the screen. Either way, Stalone said "[frick] you" and BOOM, Dolph Lundgren took his place. EVERYBODY's expendable!!!

Rorshach01: I read on Darkhorizon that Rourke was STILL going to be involved in the next Wrestlemania event, just not IN the ring as an event, as he was previously going to be. (His publicist/manager talked him out of it, and even though I'm an avid WWE fan, I have to agree... it probably would have been a bad career decision.) :-(

Not a big loss only b/c Iron Man doesn't have the greatest villains. If Sam Jackson isn't Nick Fury I would go back to the white Nick Fury and hire someone like Bruce Willis or Ed Harris
