Mickey Rourke Still Negotiating Iron Man II - Money Not the Issue

Mickey Rourke has a new passion for picking proper movie roles to further his career comeback. Says, he "may" be in Iron Man II, and that it is "something I want to do, they want me to do and we are talking."

Since Mickey Rourke is now a rising star thanks in big part to his leading actor nomination for the Oscar for "The Wrestler", the foreign reporters asked him a few questions to him (that´s why i only found this in Spanish).

In an interview yesterday in Paris, where he assists to promote "The Wrestler", Mickey Rourke said that he has left behind his life of excesses but not without effort, which has made him to value integrity above all, a quality needed by him to work with a director.

He looks forward to work with director with vision and that don´t search only the money, like Francis Ford Coppola,Alan Parker and Michael Cimino or with the spanish director Pedro Almodóvar( remember "Talk to Her"?, "All about my mother", "Volver" ?) Hey he didn´t mention Johhn Favreau. mmmhh...

He also said that he doesn´t want to repeat past mistakes as to following "The system" (like buying a mantion in Micjey said, who mentioned that that´s what happened when Darren Aronofsky offered the leading role for The Wrestler.

ROURKE REVEALED THAT ARONOFSKY SAID TO HIM: "I WON´T PAY YOU, BUT I PROMISE YOU A NOMINATION". AND THAT HE DECIDED TO ACCEPT BECAUSE HE IS A MAN THAT " I DON´T WANT TO GO TO HOLLYWOOD AND EARN MILLIONS OF DOLLARS", BUT THAT HE WAGERS FOR WHAT HE WANTS AND GOES TO THE END WITH IT.

Then he talks about his experience working in The Wrestler, how he respects the work of Wrestlers and boxers from real life, talks about the rrest of the cast, how he ended in the hospital during filming and how he sees some similitudes between him and former champion Randy Robinson.

In the note they mention, as you know, that he beat B Pitt and S Penn in the recent Golden Globes awars as best leading actor, but that he "woul be the happiest man on earth" if Sean wins the Oscar. (Sean Penn and M Rourke have been all life friends, and that Sean was with him in the good and hard times, when he says, threw his life in the toilet and lost everything)

He assures that thanks to his therapist and his years in professional boxing he realized that he needed to focus, and that Aronofsky was exactly the person he needed because "he is like a couch, he demands more and more from me", and that the director fulfil his promise of the nomination (though he admits the winning is not in his hands).

AND NOW THE IRON MAN II PART: (if you have read until here, maybe YOU are more of a Mickey Rourke fan than an Iron Man fan haha):

He insisted that his future projects must include a person with integrity.

He currently works with a Palestinian director in Brazil and that he "may" work in Iron Man II, and that that´s something "I want to do,they want me to do and we are talking"

.-Well from my point of view, he deserves a good amount of money , but if he REALLY wants to work in Iron Man II, he has to "believe" in the movie project first..

My question is… does he consider John Favreau as a person with "integrity"?? And Robert Downey too?

You know, if you are going to post this as a "Article" you may want to use the spell check. Comes in handy when you want something to look professional.

Just saying.

And who's R Dawney?

I think if his speech on integrity is true then we can assume he thinks Farveau has integrity because as he stated they are talking. I think with Robert Downey Jr. I mean guys and girls if these two can't find some common ground..cripers they have been through the wringer in almost exactly the same manner with their lives hitting the crapper due to ego and drugs...I read a very good article in Rolling Stone magazine last year with RDJ and he wants the same thing Rourke wants and that is to work with people with integrity and not surround himself with sycophants and people with dubious integrity..I think both these great actors will take the second chance they have been given and run like Forrest Gump...(that's a good thing)

see i believe the guy, because Rourke can be among the best actors you will ever see when he totally commits to a role(The Wrestler, Angel Heart, Sin City)..he can also be terrible when he doesnt give a flying [frick]! (Wild Orchid, A Prayer For The Dying, Malboro Man)

I have always been a fan of Rourke and still am till now. Its good to hear that's he's now wiser and hope he stays that way and not let the temptations of stardom get the best of him again.

I admire Rourke for his honesty, he's a trully gifted actor, and I wish him the best no matter what. I do hope that he will be attached to the next installment of the Iron Man franchise, as well as Sam Rockwell, whom I also respect and admire. If these guys are any indication of what Favreau has in store for the sequal, I'm in eager anticipation!
As for the article... Did you seriously post all of this to say:

he "may" work in Iron Man II, and that that´s something "I want to do,they want me to do and we are talking"

That's an awful lot to go through to post "no news"?

Guys guys guys:

1.- The Article indeed was in Spanish. I Translate parts of it TO english. My mother language IS SPANISH OK????.
That said, yes, i found like 10 mispellings for the whole article myself (Tucson could you pinpoint exactly where i wrote "Aticle" or are you just kidding?. By the way i already fixed the "Dawney" word ok?-besides this last word was IN A COMMENT, NOT IN THE ARTICLE ITSELF jesus!)

Oh and YOUR use of English is beautiful by the way.

I appreciate those who took notice of the grammar BUT ALSO commented about the damn article content.

2.- I tried to fix the grammar but in My Account doesn´t appear this article, i don´t know why.

3.- The "Iron Man II" news indeed are short. but as shiftysharp said, these come from MR himself.

I had my doubts about posting it in the first place, but i liked it since we get to know MR more, as an actor and a person and understand why he is being so cautious as to join the IM2 cast.

4.-It is no excuse, but i wrote it fast the first when i was AT WORK, and posted it, then checked again it today and saw the grammar mistakes... uups!

I repeat, can´t find a way to fix -edit it in the Members area.. just appears a new article that i put on hold.
