Rockwell "Crossing His Fingers" for Iron Man 2

Rockwell "Crossing His Fingers" for Iron Man 2

In this clip from Sundance, Sam Rockwell, who is up for a role in Iron Man II says he's ot his fingers crossed that he'll be involved in the movie. This is slightly less positive language than he used a few days ago when he confirmed he had the part. This may mean he's heard that Marvel only offered Mickey Rourke $250K.

whichever characters are picked for the Iron Man2 villains I think Favreau has earned a little bit of faith. If he wants Whiplash then that is completely fine.

Rourke didn't get paid for The Wrestler. So what now? his head swelled up because of his award and $250,000 isn't good enough?

First his sniveling about Sin City 2 (having to sit 3 hours for make-up during the first one) and now he's thumbing his nose at a quarter million dollars, what a little bitch.

Marvel Studios is still at an infant stage for a company, what Iron Man made didn't all go into their pockets, they had bills to pay. Besides, I'd rather see the bulk of production budget spent on SFX and overall quality of the film. If the actors want to be apart of something great, they should curb the egos.

Check it out - Rourke will likely be offered more money with this Oscar nod - additionally, they could very well say yes and work for peanuts, but be given bonuses for their likenesses as the action figure line gets released. That sort of thing makes more money than you think. It's not all bad yet, just give the dealmakers time to make their deals. We have to remember that these actors are aware of the their star power and the crowds they will bring in, and so they must be paid what they are worth. Also, you are more likely to see a big deal if they are offered a guaranteed slot in the sequel. We don't need any more Terrence Howard fall-throughs or Samuel L. Jackson ego-bullshit. Don't get me wrong, I think Samuel L. is the Man, and I like Rourke and Sam Rockwell, but they are not must-haves to get this movie made. The only must-have at this point is Downey Jr. - the rest are just there.

Is the movie Iron Man 2 or Whiplash origins? Favreau could make this movie great even if he only had Gary Coleman to play Whiplash,That being said I hope Rourke will still consider the role but not a disaster if he chooses not. Still alot of great actors to choose from just maybe not Gary Coleman yet

remember a few weeks back, CBM reported that Marvel Studios was having an "economic crisis" ???
Well, what if they can't pay Rourke more than $250K because they spent half of their money on Downey Jr. ? I love them both. Think both are great at what they do.
But, what if Marvel promised most of it's money to the principal actor rather than
all of their other characters ?
usclerkguy
usclerkguy - 1/25/2009, 6:53 PM
Seriously, $250k is not a lot for a major hollywood production!!! I really cannot believe that is all they offered Rourke or would offer Rockwell(unless it was a brief cameo ala Sam Jackson). But if it's a substantial role Rourke could easily demand(due to his comeback and his stature now)at the least 10x that amount...and that would be a bargain and really not that much of a dent in the total budget. Rockwell can't demand as much $$$, but definitely a lot more than $250k!!! Remember, in order to make money, you have to spend money!Five or 6 more million to get great talent aboard will not make or break Marvel Studios! They are guaranteed to make a big profit off a sequel!!!As long as an actor's asking price is reasonable and akin to their talent, I refuse to believe Marvel Studios wouldn't pay an actor a decent wage! They aren't that foolhardy and don't need that kind of reputation.

Scarface - 1/28/2009, 7:20 AM
Granted 250K is not much money but we do not know the whole story. I myself make a wage and bonus incentives that can double or triple my salary in some cases. Maybe that is the case for these actors a basic wage and bonus incentives if they do well and deliver a great performance. terrance Howard is a good actor and i am a fan but in Iron Man his take on Jim Rhodes is almost forgetable, the only thing I really remember is when he looked at the mark II suit and said next time

Wow. 3 posts in one 24 Hr period. The most I've done in 3 weeks. Anyway, If he doesn't want the 250k, give it to me, I'll gain about 60 Lbs and wear some platforms to be Dynamo. I could totally use that 1/4 mil for sure!

As for the INSIDIOUS thought from my good Irish buddy ROR that I may be Supermike; PLEASE GOD NO! I never thought my witty sarcasm and altruistic realism would garner me a spot next to THAT guy. I may be extremely imaginative, but I couldn't come up with a personality that is so...How do I put this; COMPLETELY devoid of an original thought or any semblance of wit or knowledge of the medium he is trying ever so "galanty" to undermine. That statement alone just shot way over his head so now he has to try (I give him 2 days to analyze and make sense of the big words I just used) and respond with some rhetoric that;

A.) Won't garner any more (or less) respect for himself; as nobody truly cares for him beyond pissing on his smoldering ember of what we would call a "train of thought".

or

B.) Will most likely be something so infantile and full of grammatical errors that all he will accomplish is a small realization that we don't even have enough pity for him to laugh at his elementary-esque quips. If you can even call them "quips".

Thanks for the shoutout guys. I do appreciate that people actually remember who I am. Not like I'm some famous uber-magnate or anything. But, recognition is nice, and well recieved.

As for the concerns about my absence: SHAMAN, Rorscach01, El Beaster, grif, iNSane, Weapon X, Paraschythe and for all the rest of you here I have yet to meet, I leave you with this:
7 days boys and girls. Count 'em down!

250k is not all Rourke will get. With him playing a villian (Whiplash or Crimson Dynamo), he will get a cut of the action figure sales of his figure. Plus, Im sure he got a nice piece of the back end. Also, dont forget the DVD money.

Remember, what BIG BLOCKBUSTERS has Rourke been in, and carried all by himself lately? ZERO. What is his B.O. appeal? Noone knows. Sure he just won a Golden Globe, but who has acctually seen the movie? 9 million in 6 weeks, isnt a HUGE Blockbuster. Yes, its limited, but other limited release movies are doing much better then his is.

Are we going to see IM2 just because of Rourke, or because we liked the first movie. I tend to think its because of the 1st movie, and not Rourke.

So lets not feel sorry for him because he is only getting paid a quarter million, because Ill estimate that he will really be paid upwards of 4 million. After action figure, b.o., and DVD monies are all divided up.

Scarface... You are right about Terrance Howard. Favreau was not a huge fan of Terrence. Alot of what TW did endt up on the cutting room floor, Favreau and Marvel were not very happy with his performance. Seeing that he was the highest paid on the film. They dont want to make that mistake again.

We hardly hear about the extras actors get. But every actor get points on the back end. There are 100 points to hand out, usually the producers and directors get the majority. But the main stars will get points also. When an actor works for scale, on a movie like this, he is taking his pay on the back end. Because of the prospective B.O. for this movie. If the budget is 150mill, and they spend another 20mill on ads. The producers have to pay all that back, and anything left afterwards gets divided up according to the points. Main star would get 5-10 points, others would get 3-7. That stuff can add up quick.

For example... The first IronMan had a budget of 140mill. Worldwide B.O. was 582 million, cut that in half, the theaters get that half. Then lets say they spend 15mill on ads, and another 20 on the movie prints. Thats 175, and probally very low. But after the studio and distributor gets paid back, that leaves approx 116mill left of the total WW B.O. Marvel would get a small cut at this point. Then the producers would have around 100 mill left over to split up. If you got 5 points on the back, you would get a check for 5mill. Even just 1 point, and you get a check for 1 mill. Just about every main player in a movie gets some kind of points on the back end.

Ill guess Rourke is getting 3-6, which would be great for this movie.

In reverse.. If you make a deal like that, but the movie bombs.. Too bad, no back end money. You only get that back end money if the movie acctually makes money.

So my previous estimate of Rourke making 4 million all told, it probally low.
