Sam Rockwell Spills The "Favreau Directing Technique" Beans

Sam also talks about receiving the Iron Man 2 script only two weeks before shooting. Talk about being rushed.

I am sure Favreau's Indie background and reputation for letting his actors use a little improvisation helped Sam Rockwell feel good about taking the role as Justin Hammer in Iron Man 2. Sam confirms:

"It's not dissimilar to other studio movies, but the thing that's different about it is (director Jon Favreau) really likes to improvise," states Rockwell. "So we get to play more on this movie than you would on a lot of studio movies."

In other words Favs isn't a micro manager, he wants the actors to perform the role as an extension of there own personalities, which is sometimes good and sometimes bad. A good Director (like Jon Favreau) will make that good.

Rockwell also said he received the script only a week before shooting, so Sam "kind of took it on faith."

You could tell by RDJ's performance in the first movie that Stark was a little bit of an extension from his own personality.

There is no doubt in my mind you find a director that is a fan of the material the movie is based on and you will always get a great film.

Richard Donner
Louis Leterrier
Guillermo del Toro
Sam Raimi
Peter Jackson

That how Dad did it
Thats how Jon Faverau does it
And it worked out pretty well so far!!

Gentlemen I present to you Iron Man 2

Yeah, that's the kid i saw in the first TMNT with menthols in one hand and regulars in the other :)) Hasn't changed one bit!!! In that pic he looks kinda like this guy in Alien4, funny how he was also an expendable "guy" in a sci-fi setting LOL :

And no exaggeration, I couldn't love a human baby as much as I love Jon Favreau!!! :))

What I like about Fav is he brings the indie spirit to big budget studio flicks. It is studio with a nice indie after taste. I trust him to do good solid work. And I like Rockwell so its all good in the hood.
Shaman, never put the tmnt and Rockwell thing together. Thanks for dropping some knowledge.

I have complete faith in Favreau. He is one of the few comic book movie directors that has that right now.

I'm looking forward to seeing Hawkeye in Ironman 2! He is probably my favorite non-X-Men guy. I just hope they don't go the Ultimates route with Avengers.
