Terrence Howard: Iron Man Execs Made "Very, Very Bad Choice"

Marvel "didn't honor my contract," says the actor, who was replaced in the sequel by Don Cheadle

Terrence Howard is not pleased he was replaced in the "Iron Man" sequel over a reported salary dispute.

"Marvel made a choice, and it was a very, very bad choice," the actor -- whose role was given to Don Cheadle -- tells Parade.com. "They didn't keep their word. They didn't honor my contract."

Howard says producers didn't share the profits of the flick -- which earned over $318 million -- with most of the actors.
"They produced a great bounty with the first one, but they put it all in the storehouse and you were not allowed in," he says. "They did the same thing with Gwyneth Paltrow , from what I've been told.
See Gwyneth Paltrow's crazy fashion choices over the years.
The only person who got a raise?
"They did it with everyone but Robert Downey [Jr]," fumes Howard. "One of the things that actors need to do is always stick together: one for all, and all for one."
Even though he's upset, he's not spilling any details from the anticipated sequel.
"I've seen the script, I know what's going to happen -- but I'm not revealing anything. I believe in karma," he says. "When someone does something wrong, you don't have to get them back. Everything right will return the favor for you."
He'll still watch the follow up -- which also stars Scarlett Johansson and Mickey Rourke -- in theaters.
See Scarlett's red carpet photos over the years.
"I'm definitely looking forward to seeing the movie. I want to see Don Cheadle become me. No, I want him to do better than me," Howard says. "That's what I really want to see. Don Cheadle was the reason I got 'Crash,' so I have a lot of love for him."

yeah, well maybe if Howard didn't suck in the 1st one so bad that a lot of his scenes were scrapped or cut, he wouldn't have been dropped from the sequel for not being worth the money he wanted.

Howard really needs to let it go, but Im not excited about Cheadle taking his place. Its like trying to make Will Smith the next Blade its not a good fit good actor bad fit.

Thought he did a decent job in the 1st and would have liked to see him carry on. But I heard they had to work VERY hard to get him to look good in the movie and he's asking for extortionate amounts of money!

How can replacing a mediocre actor with a class actor like Cheadle be a mistake?

you cant blame anyone but those f***ing hollywood executives. they had a contract with howard, and he was GOING to honor it, until they cut it short. its a great thing that he doesnt really blame cheadle, and still has so much respect for the guy. thats something thats pretty rare in todays world. on top of that, i DO love iron man and Robert Downey Jr., but the whole thing about him accepting the money, when his costars were barely given a f***ing cent, thats bull. but whatever.

LOL sour grapes is it?? Blow it out your ass, Howie because everyones glad your gone.

It's his own greed that's to blame, not Marvel. He should have took one for the team if he really wanted to play Rhodey that bad.

It was my understanding is that he wouldn't play ball. When it was realized that he was making more money than the star of the movie. He should of worked it out.

Because of this whole deal, I hate Terrance Howard. He basically had a loophole in his contract that allowed him to make more than any other actor in the movie and wouldn't take the part for the second with a (perfectly reasonable) pay cut. I swear these whiny-ass, greedy, "gotta have my solid gold humvee" hollywood morons piss me off. The producers took a risk on Downey Jr., he'd just come out of a pretty bad slump, OF COURSE HE GOT A RAISE WHEN HE PULLED IT TOGETHER AND GAVE US A NEAR-PERFECT STARK!

Somebody needs their box of animal crackers back. Cry babying still over the fact he is out of Iron Man 2. Real talk, his performance in Iron Man one was just ok. He plays the same guy in every movie he does anyway. We will see him portray Jim Rhodes in his next film.

GET OVER IT????? This guys been really wronged by MARVEL!!! Its quite apparent that this guy wanted to play WAR MACHINE and he's been rightly wronged, i feel for the guy! If this happened to any of you lot, you'd hit the roof an never let it go lol! An you'd be well unforgiving! The fact is HOWARD loves IRON MAN and who wouldn't be sour!!! MARVEL don't treat their actors or for that matter fans with any respect! It's a shame but in the end MARVEL turned out like every other faceless film company! Damn shame!!! As for DON being a better actor? I don't think so, he's a good actor but HOWARD takes it, hands down! If you don't believe me, check out CRASH (as stated above), saw that a couple of weeks ago! (Oh yeah, its not the CRASH movie were everyone gets off crashing cars lol). Anyway you can see for yourself HOWARD is a fantastic actor from his performance in that!!! DONS good, an is very talented, but i would've loved to see him play BLACK PANTHER!!! Yes i know SNIPES, but if SNIPES did it, it'll be like thinking about BLADE all the time!!! Anyway check out CRASH,,, its a very deep moving powerful movie!!! You wont regret it!! ; )

Jesus, LEEE777, I'm with you AGAIN! (2nd time I've said that just this hour!)

The reason I say that we shouldn't be saying for him to just shut up and get over it is because I can imagine how I'd feel if I was in his situation and I'd be pissed. I lost a job once in a similar situation (well, there was WAY less money involved... and there was no movie involved, but you get the point) and what happened WAS wrong and to this day I'm still pissed. And that was years ago. That reminds me-- I still need to nuke that place. (Just kidding.)

LEEE777, i agree that its not howard just being a crybaby. i mean, I do understand his point of view, and i think Marvel could have handled this another way. But I gotta say a few things on this...

1) He WAS NOT a very good choice for the part in the first place. And his performance was the downpoint of the movie for me and just about everyone I've spoken to, in the hood or on this site...

2) Howard a better actor than Cheadle? What?! Is this supermike talking? I like Howard, but he plays the exact same character in every movie he is in. His little act was great for Idlewild, but not for IronMAn... look at Cheadle... from Hotel Rwanda to Rush Hour 2 to Traitor.... my God, the man's range is ridiculous, and he will go down as one of the great actors of our time. Terrence will have "Hustle and Flow" and " The Jacksons: An American Dream" and that will be the pinnacle of his career.

3) By the way, I'm starting to buy into the "whiny boy" opinion of Terrence Howard. I mean, now there's some sort of rumor going around about him and some comments he made about Jamie Foxx, just because Foxx's album is better and has sold more units than his. Thats what we call "hatin'" on my block. i understood some of the beef with him and Marvel at first, but now I'm starting to get to the "whatever" point with dude.

Oh, and as far as Howard just REALLY being in love with Iron Man and really wanting to play War Machine... Tyrese Gibson PAID to be in the first Transformers movie because he loved them so much... if Gibson could cut a check just to be in a movie, maybe Howard could have taken a pay cut. But hey, thats just the fanboy flaring up in me!

Colton.... Cuba is not only a better actor than Howard ( although it could be argued how much better), but i think he would have been a better fit... maybe even a better fit than Cheadle. Howard has too much of the "pretty boy" look to him, while Cuba with a beard would look gruff... he would look more like Rhoadey, and his acting chops would nail that part. i think he would have fit really well...

We have already had this argument a million times. I say that BOTH Cheadle AND Howard were bad choices. Not badass enough. I say either Michael Jai White (I know-- not the best actor of all time), Brian J. White (Tavon Garris from 'The Shield') or hell-- even Laurence Fishburn would have been a better choice. All I see when I look at Don Cheadle is Basher from "Oceans's Eleven." I loved him in that, but he's too goofy to take as a badass. Even in "Swordfish" I thought he was a clown. He's just not intimidating whatsoever. IF your name is War Machine, you kinda should be at least a little bit intimidating. If Don Cheadle tried to mug me in a dark alley I'd laugh at him and walk away.

Cuba Gooding is a [frick]ing joke of an actor..he cries and puffs his cheeks and gurns like a turkey in every movie hes in. Thats why hes currently making Boat Trip 3 or something.

Howard is a great actor. He was ok in Iron Man. but check out Crash or The Brave One, hes great in em.

Cheadle though, is better again. I agree with version4, hes one of the most versatile actors in the business. So im glad hes on board. But whats with everyone telling Howard hes a whiny bitch? Nobody knows the situation, he may well have been royally screwed over by Marvel. So hes kicking up a fuss..big deal! If it gets him black balled thats his choice to make. At least hes not playing the Hollywood holds hands together crap like most stars do.

Metalhead your watching the wrong Cheadle movies..he actually sucked in Oceans AND Swordfish! Standard phone in shit anyone could do.

MetalHead... i agree with you you on Cheadle AND Howard both being bad choices. Jai White has the look, but I think Cuba would have been a little better than him. Fishburn is a little too old. I had to respond to that comment about Howard being a better actor than Cheadle.... no way, not even on Christmas!

Terence was really good in the Best Man also, some of you should watch that he plays the villian role, im not defending these recent tantrums in his interviews but just saying he doesnt play the same character in every movie.. just recently lol, lol @ jamie fox hahaha he said terences album went plastic!

Aww man... i did forget about "The Best Man" logan... but it still feels like he played the same character, just as a villian. I liked him in that movie, though.... so lets add that to his pinnacle works! LOL

And that was a classic line from Foxx, by the way! Went plastic? LOL thas the kind of talk that would make the red carpet get gangsta!!! LOL

Rorschach,
My point about Cheadle was that all I can see when I look at him is Basher. Not saying that he's a bad actor, cause like I said, I do like him. The comparison I've used over and over is that I love Ed Norton too but I wouldn't want him to be War Machine either.

I actually really wish they got Brian J. White. He's the perfect combination of a guy with the look that has a good heart, looks badass and has that calm and cool attitude to him. And he looks like he could kick some ass. Cheadle looks like he could kick some ass too, but the problem is that when the guy turned around, Cheadle would be squashed.
