Tim Robbins To Play Tony's Dad in Iron Man 2 Movie

Tim Robbins To Play Tony's Dad in Iron Man 2 Movie

While this is still a rumor, solid sources say that the Shawshank Redemption actor will be playing Howard Stark...

Latino Review has been right in its rumors before, so we're happy to hop on the rumor mill and spread this one--especially because it makes such sense.

They're saying that the role of Howard Stark, founder of Stark
Industries and Father of Tony (a.k.a. Iron Man), may have been given to actor/activist Tim Robbins, best known for his putrescent escape through a poop pipe in Stephen King's Shawshank Redemption.

This brings up the question of why Jon Favreau dumped Gerard Sanders, who previously appeared in the part. CBM believes that it is because father Stark will be involved in an important storyline which will introduce the super soldier Captain America, and set-up two other Marvel movies, namely The Avengers and The First Avenger: Captain America.

Also, some previous rumors of other Avengers have been confirmed by Latino Review's source. Hawkeye and Black Widow are mentioned as definitely having parts in Iron Man II.

Not a bad choice for Howard Stark. If it's true and there is going to be elements of Tony's father in the story, that'd be awesome.
I just hope that whatever connection Howard Stark has to Captain America that it doesn't involve him in the actual creation of the serum and they leave it to the original developer of it from project rebirth. If anything, it only goes as far as the creation of his first shield.
Hawkeye would also be cool to see, although I think that if he was going to be in it, his role would be just as in depth as Nick Fury's was in the first one.

Heres what doesnt make sense; if Im thinking correctly I thought they said that Tony's dad died in the first movie? So why would they or how would they bring him back in the 2nd movie?

Hes dead! So why the heck would they bring him into the story?

What, am i the only one that makes "casting" sense here??? Don't let the fact that Tim Robbins never had any real upper teeth in his entire career fool you! He's practically the same age as Tony! Both actors have 7 years age difference!!! He'd never pull off his father! IF he isn't dead to begin with, you need an older actor that can pull off a father figure! A few come to mind here like Sean Connery, James Brolin, Tom Selleck, Harrison Ford and Nick Nolte. You can't possibly go younger than that! Robbins is RUBBISH!!! Makes no freakin' sense what so ever!!!

Hookmvp and Shaman are you complete idiots or just young and stupid? Where does it say that Tim Robbins will be hangin out with Iron Man? The role will be flashbacks and that will be it.

Yeah, if it's flashbacks what they're going for (wich they have to in order to introcude the Cap), then it's a great choice.

Yea Tim Robbins is awesome. It would have to be in flashback form, there's no way they can introduce Howard Stark while Tony is Iron Man, it would botch a WHOLE lot of storytelling. So it will be when Tony is like a teen going to MIT or something...I would hope.

VOTE: BOOK OF OA!

Downey Jr. has more wrinkles than Robbins, hummmm...I guess they'll have to make him look older. But yeah, he's a great actor + addition to the franchise.

Well Lenny, since the article didn't mention the "word" flashback, it was fair to assume. If it is in flashback format, then Robbins fits the bill. But how were we to know? To me the words "important part" means "screen time" and doesn't "feel" like flashbacks.

Wonder if they would go for Jason Statham for Hawkeye. Looks and acts like the Ultimates version. MARVEL have wanted him to do something with them for a while, just never had a role for him to play. Till now. But this still could all just be rumor.

Robert Downey Jr.=Rich playboy with addiction issues=Tony Stark
Tim Robbins=Arms designer/manufacturer/dealer=Howard Stark?

Tim Robbins is too anti-war to be involved with Iron Man in any way, having him doing junkets and interviews for IM is a major risk, IMO. I would definitely put a clause in his contract that forbids him from talking about politics and the movie together.

Yeah, he's part of the F.A.G. (film actors guild) for christ's sake!!!...... MATT DAMON!!! (said in a retarded way).

And Statham should be Hawkeye, no one else fits the role better than him.

I like Robbins... A hauntingly, superb, actor. That guarantees quality... along with Cheadle, of course.
