Excuse me if i have grammar or spelling mistakes, i don’t live in an english-speaking country.

For most of the people, after the great movie Iron Man, its sequel was awful. What i’m about to say may be dangerous but i actually liked Iron Man 2. Well, not dangerous, ‘cause i’m not going to create a flame war due to the fact that the mayority of the people alredy assume that the film is bad, and if someone says that he enjoyed it, they don’t even loose their time arguing if it’s good or bad like it would happen with Iron Man 3.

But i have to say, i’m not trying to convince you here that this movie is good or why you should like it. And if you disliked it, i completely understand, seriously. Just like Man of Steel, i enjoyed that movie a lot and i think it’s very awesome but i understand why the superman fans were dissapointed. Anyways, to the point:

So why did i like Iron Man 2, you will wonder. Well, i’m not going to say that it’s the best movie in the world but first of all i enjoyed it because of Tony Stark. I really really like MCU’s Tony Stark. He’s funny, he’s rich, he has everything he wants, a badass armour, he can fly, he’s got a great girl and an awesome beach house, an artificial inteligence called Jarvis, he has buildings and fancy things... and i don’t know, his looks? Everything. He basicly steals the show all the time. And especially, I really like the world of Stark Industries and it was explored a lot in this film. When i saw the Stark Industries easter egg in the ending of Cap 2 i smiled. I didn’t like Iron Man 3 because of that in some way (but mostly because he didn’t wear his armour (and its villain)). In an Iron Man film, i want Stark Industries, a cool armour and AC/DC, and this film had the three of them.

I know Iron Man 2 was esencially made to kill time for the Avengers movie so yeah, it’s true, it doesn’t really move the Iron Man franchise forward and it’s made to introduce things. It mostly introduces Shield and Nick Fury, so we get to know who he is. The first movie which didn’t have Nick Fury only in a cameo. It also established the badass character Black Widow for the Avengers (She was awesome in the film) and we also got to see some more of Agent Coulson. It also introduced Stark expo and Howard Stark, so they are introduced for Captain America. Something similar to his shield even appeared. And vibranium! Another great cool awesome thing was the badass WAR MACHINE, who i am looking forward to see in Avengers 2. Some “Avengers Initiative” mentions... Plus, some easter eggs like the end credit scene with Thor’s hammer. The film is a big easter egg.

It hasn’t got a purpose of existing aside from introducing things into the MCU. For me, the movie is a big giant easter egg. That’s what it is. The thing is, it’s fun and it has got Iron Man in it, which is great. It’s fun, you have to admit it. And it has some very great action scenes. Plus, it has got AC/DC! For me, it’s a very entretaining movie and worthy of seeing with your friends and have a great time! I pretty much rather see this before Iron Man 3.
Iron Man 2= Fun
Iron Man 3= Boring and Dissapointing

Okay, i’m mentioning Iron Man 3 to much. That’s dangerous. Just remember this is just the opinion of a random person in the internet. It’s strange because as a non Marvel fan i would say Iron Man 2 is fun (how many times i’ve said that alredy? Gosh) but as a Marvel fan i guess i would say dissapointing? But that doesn’t make sense because i don’t feel dissapointed with the film as a Marvel fan. However, as a non Marvel fan i think Iron Man 3 was boring and as a Marvel fan i think it was a HUGE dissapointment. I guess i feel this way about Iron Man 2 because when i saw it i only knew about spiderman and i was not passioned about Iron Man comics and i thought his movies were all OK, i couldn’t criticize them.

Conclusion: I enjoyed that film and i think it has some really nice things. As i said, when you look at it, the movie is actually an introduction of several thing, a gigantic easer egg, we could say. It’s like an expansion of the Universe, a very verey long Marvel One-Shot, an expansion... but with Iron Man and Scarlet Johanson in it! :D When i go see an Iron Man film, i want Stark industries, AC/DC and a cool armour. And Tony Stark drinking with style. That is mister Stark! Oh, and JARVIS saying: “Yes, sir”. Iron Man 2 is the incarnation of Tony Stark in its best brilliance. I think it’s a good sequel to its predecesor.

And now a cool video of the movie (with AC/DC!)

And now this image that i made that pretty much resembles what the movie means to me:

I admit I skimmed just because of a lot of meandering, but most editorials on this site have a hard time just getting to the point.

I often wonder if it's really "the majority" that dislike IM2, or simply a very vocal minority. I've actually never met anyone who disliked it, but at the most just liked it a little less than the first film. I don't hang out with many nerds though. I'm the nerdiest person in my social circle. I'm also one of those that likes each Iron Man only slightly less than the previous installment.

And like you, I enjoy Iron Man 2 if for no other reason because of Tony. I don't care that it's apparently seen as more a setup for Avengers than an Iron Man film. And that's something I REALLY don't see, since Tony has a definite arc in the film and his character is progressed quite a bit. You get to see far more about his father, and Tony's relationship with him. You get to see a lot more about Tony's personality, and how he's dealing with his potential death. And you get to see Tony get his act together and save himself, as well as others. It also pushes his relationship with Pepper further. If you enjoy Tony Stark, these all seem like things you can get into. And besides Pepper, his other supporting characters get to progress as well. Rhodey and Happy both get a lot more business, and you meet Black Widow, whom I believe was introduced in Iron Man in the first place. SHIELD was tied to Iron Man frequently in the comics as well, so I don't see why purists would balk there either.

The film also does have some sweet actiony bits, but I think my favorite is when he suits in with the Mark 5 on the racetrack. I also suspect if you time how often Tony is in the suit in this, it will clock to about the same as the first film.

Also, building toward Avengers really doesn't seem like such a bad thing to me. Avengers was awesome, and seems like it was very popular. So taking a larger step towards that shouldn't really be a negative.

Apparently Iron Man 2 was supposed to be the first of a few sequels for the MCU. The plan was originally to do two films for each hero before doing the big teamup with Avengers, but Iron Man 2 was the only one they did. It seems like the plan was to do an origin for each character (like they did with Thor and Cap), then have one sequel each to explore the characters further and let them have more time to breathe on their own, and THEN do the big event film. I'm not entirely sure why this was scrapped, but I've been fine with how the MCU is developing so far.

recently rewatched all 3 iron man films and i think people complain to much none of them where bad. i really enjoyed all 3 but i also believe they could all be improved upon story wise/action wise, if i was in charge i would have done things differently. i was disappointed when i watched iron man 3 for the first time mainly because there was no AC/DC lol, but once you forget about the whole mandarin issue it's still a great film.

although i think iron man 1 is the best.

"i think iron man 1 is the best."

This seems to be the one thing everyone agrees on.

I'm not even a fan of AC/DC, but the lack of any songs on IM3 is actually the thing that bothers me the most about that movie. Just really seems to be an aspect of the character. I mean, come on, he's one of the few characters who can run around literally projecting his own soundtrack.

So sad :(

The difference between DCnites, and Marvelites is that at least DC fans will admit when one of their films sucks. For example, we can all agree that both Green Lantern and SR suck.Even though Superman Returns got a 76% on Rotten Tomatoes. See, Marvel fans will never admit that films like Iron Man 3, Iron Man 2, and Thor 2 suck. Because they will always run to Rotten Tomatoes when its convenient to them. But if you mention something like The Dark Knight Rises, which got an 88% then Rotten Tomatoes, then Rotten Tomatoes doesn't matter anymore. Let me also remind you folks that Rotten Tomatoes also gave Blade 1 and 2 a 55% and 59%.

@MrkOfTheDemon What the hell does Rotten Tomatoes even matter, they don't decide if I like some film or not, I do. People have right to opinion and your opinion is not abolute truth, if someone says that they like Iron Man 2 it doesn't automatically mean that they are "Marvelites" or "Marvel fanboys"; not everyone on this site is picking sides or favorite studios to worship.

Of the Iron Man trilogy, IM2 is by far the most disappointing. Near the bottom in an overall ranking of Marvel Studios movie. IM3 was a huge improvement, if any film receives more discredit than it deserves, it's IM3. At least IM3 has the ability to divide people's opinion, it seems for the most part IM2 is just shrugged off, or disregarded.

@markdemon

I agree. For some reason the MCUers can't admit when they get a bad movie.
Iron Man 2 is almost as bad as Spiderman 3.
Tony's dad cured Tony's disease decades before the disease existed, by creating a new element and hiding it's structure in an architectural model. That is absolute garbage.
It's more than okay if anyone likes it, but to argue that it's actually a good quality movie is complete horseshit.

@MarkOfTheDemon

I don't think I've ever actually checked out RottenTomatoes in my life. I tend to use my own taste and enjoyment to decide if a movie is good or not.

I enjoyed all the Iron Man movies, as I said I enjoyed each one only slightly less than the previous installment. I liked Thor 2 okay. Cap 2 is the first Marvel sequel I've liked more than the one before it.

Meanwhile, I like the Nolan movies, Man of Steel, and even enjoyed elements of Green Lantern. I have no problem with people who disagree with me, even a ton of them who need to rate films on a website.

Ultimately, I don't really get the line between Marvel fans and DC fans. I tend to prefer MCU films, but I'll probably see the Man of Steel followup as well. Why turn my nose up to a whole group of movies just because of the company they're produced by? If anything, what turns me off to Marvel movies or DC movies is the fanbase of both.

Never understood the hate IM2 received. I really enjoyed it. I wish Favreau helmed IM3. He started the MCU and should of finished what he started.

Nibs

He gave him the new element which tony worked into his arc reactor. He didn't knowingly cure him. He gave him the means for clean, sustainable energy which would "change the world".

I have never been on RT. I don't need some puppet to tell me if a movie is good or not. I decide that myself. The only time RT is relevant is if someone makes a claim that a particular cbm is not critically acclaimed.

Good article. Iron Man2 set up the whole universe. And marvel has yet to make a movie as bad as Green Lantern or Superman Returns. That's probably why we don't say they are as bad as people say those movies are.

sikwon - 5/2/2014, 7:26 PM
The problem with Green Lantern is there's no reason it should have been as bad as it was. The hot wheels race track was just the worst.

I actually thought Iron Man 2 was okay but it was not boring. Just some scenes werent executed well and it felt like Iron Man 2 was way too over saturated.
