Back when Iron Man 3 was shooting in 2012, reports emerged that production was going to have to be delayed for a short time because star Robert Downey Jr. had suffered an injury on set. We were given a few vague details at the time, but Downey's costar Guy Pearce (Aldrich Killian) has now explained exactly what happened.
While speaking to GQ for the latest in their "Iconic Roles" video series, the Lawless actor revealed that RDJ actually broke his angle while attempting a stunt, resulting in the movie shutting down for over a month.
"He had to do a stunt where he had to jump from one platform down to another platform and be on a cable," Pearce recalled. "And they wanted to rehearse it. He said, 'No, I don't need to rehearse it'. He jumped, and the guy holding the cable wasn't quite ready, and he landed hard and broke his ankle. So the film shut down for five or six weeks."
The Iron Man 3 stuff comes in around the 16:30 mark so be sure to give it a watch, as Pearce also tells a funny story about Downey being surprised that he wanted to film their fight scene while wearing sandals!
