To consummate the build up to "Iron Man 3" select theaters will be showing "Iron Man" (2008) "Iron Man 2" (2010) and "The Avengers" (2012). A list of participating theaters has not yet been revealed.

Theaters are planning to offer an "Iron Man Marathon" on May 2nd! Included in the line-up will be Iron Man (2008), Iron Man 2 (2010), Marvel's The Avengers (2012), and then Iron Man 3 will begin screening at 9 p.m. on May 2nd. It looks like the marathon will start at 1 p.m.

Walt Disney Pictures and Marvel Studios should be revealing the participating theaters soon.

The anticipated third installment pits brash-but-brilliant industrialist Tony Stark/Iron Man against an enemy whose reach knows no bounds. When Stark finds his personal world destroyed at his enemy's hands, he embarks on a harrowing quest to find those responsible. This journey, at every turn, will test his mettle. With his back against the wall, Stark is left to survive by his own devices, relying on his ingenuity and instincts to protect those closest to him. As he fights his way back, Stark discovers the answer to the question that has secretly haunted him: does the man make the suit or does the suit make the man?

Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Guy Pearce, Rebecca Hall, Stephanie Szostak, James Badge Dale, Jon Favreau, Ben Kingsley and Wang Xuequi star in the Shane Black-directed film.

This reminds me that I should make my own MCU marathon on April 25th.

I wanted to do one before The Avengers last year, but I was just returning from a trip and didn't have time.

butt hurt ... Still better than LOTR Director's Cut Marathon.
Shorter, definitely.

Do you pay a flat fee for all movies or $12 for each one....man do these guys know how to milk it!
jerryblake
jerryblake - 3/29/2013, 11:19 PM
@BJD

$12 for each one, but there's a discount for Iron Man 2.
(should be for Iron Man 1, still think that part 2 was better)

@jerryblake

I don't know about better, but I really think IM2 has a more rewatchable value than IM1.

I watched Iron Man once. It was funny but forgettable. 5/10
Not felling the need to watch it again.
Watched Iron Man 2 twice. 8/10 (for now) in my book.

@jerryblake

I don't rate movies (can't really translate my thoughts about a movie to a nummerical system), but I can rank them.

For me:

1-CA:TFA
2-The Avengers
3-IM2
4-Iron Man/The Incredible Hulk (depending of my mood)
6-Thor (I did like the movie, but Thor was never a favorite character of mine).

As far as quality goes, for me they're all excellent. So, I don't know, 9 to all?

part 3 looks like 7/10 to me right now, second trailer looks good, i dig everything Feige is saying about the movie.

Not sure if i will watch it in cinema or just wait for blue ray to come.

You know they're forgetting about HULK 2008...TONY STARK'S cameo at the end...why not, it's another $12 they can get
TheManFromMars
TheManFromMars - 3/29/2013, 11:41 PM
Where is this $12 stuff comming from? I don't see any information on the article about prices. Just curious.

^I'm just throwing $12 out there as an arbitrary figure because it's the going rate for a movie around me...it might be cheaper by you

The movie marathon before The Avengers cost a flat fee of $40, for which you got to see all of Marvel Studios' films and TA at midnight. They didn't charge per movie, and I'm sure the Iron Man marathon will be the same.

Marvel Studio Movies :
Avengers 8/10
Iron Man 2 8/10
CA:TFA 7/10

@CoulsonLives: Cap is only re-watchable for me with Riff-Trax commentary...it's my least favorite out of all the movie in the MCU...just my opinion
TheManFromMars
TheManFromMars - 3/29/2013, 11:56 PM
@CoulsonLives

Of course Cap is your favorite, You're Coulson!

@BJD

Man, I can't stand RiffTrax! Or MST3000. I think I can no longer find humor on "guys make snarky comments at movies".

I used to be Nostalgia Critic fan, then I spent a year without watching his vids, decided to check it out again and it only made me cringe.

^AMEN! That's exactly the reaction every person should have to this announcement...but there is a sucker born every minute
TheManFromMars
TheManFromMars - 3/30/2013, 12:22 AM
@BJD

I don't think that's a fair statement.

Some people just prefer the big screen, crowded movie theater experience than simply watching them alone in their living room.

If they have a chance to relive that experience, then, why, let them be.

@TheManFromMars: I don't how people can pay for something they already own, and all the meanwhile Studio execs are laughing at them for doing so
TheManFromMars
TheManFromMars - 3/30/2013, 12:40 AM
@BJD

They may own the movies, but they don't own the experience. The audience reaction/partcipation is all part of the party for them. Is the bonus, the cherry on the top. It's just like the people who go watch The Rocky Horror Picture Show on theaters every Halloween. Sure they could watch at home, but it's not the same thing.

I'm not going to this, by the way. Even if I wanted to, I couldn't. I'm not American, and, as far as I know, there has never been a movie theater marathon here in Brazil. If there was, would I go? Maybe. I don't have the time to spent an entire afternoon on a theater though. But wouldn't be because of money. I don't have any shame on spending money on something I enjoy.
BJD
BJD - 3/30/2013, 12:46 AM
@TheManFromMars: If they can't recreate the experience at home, that just means they don't have friends...and in that case, of course they would be drawn to this...bottom line, even if they enjoy it, it's still sad...I'm not trying to be confrontational brother, I guess we just see things differently
TheManFromMars
TheManFromMars - 3/30/2013, 12:53 AM
@BJD

It's not just about friends, is about being part of a big thing. Of strangers sharing a common interest, which for me is also the draw of conventions and, hell, even of websites like this.

And even if you do have friends, there's no guarantee that you can drag them to watch 5-6 movies with you on one sitting. with these marathons, everyone who's there is already willing to go with it.

You didn't sound confrontational at all. It's good to have a healthy discussion and it was a nice talk. So, thank you.

I really need to go sleep, now. It's 5 A.M. here!

Godspeed.

i'm gonna do my own marathon i've got all the movies on blu-ray,i'll watch one a day on my 40" plasma up to the release of iron man 3.

i can't be sitting in a cinema seat for what 8 hours,f*ck that.

ruadh - 3/30/2013, 7:31 AM
Eh...I watch the phase 1 blurays pretty often with my son (on my 67", sorry marvel72, just had to), so I feel they're all pretty fresh for me.

It's cool when they offer things like this. There's so many movies I'd love to see on the big screen again, especially over a lot of what they offer currently. Just re-release great films now and then!

ruadh - 3/30/2013, 7:32 AM
Also, yes, it will be a flat fee for the marathon. You pay, you sit, and you watch. They aren't going to empty the theater after each film, make you go outside, and purchase another ticket, then come back in.
marvel72
marvel72 - 3/30/2013, 8:00 AM
@ ruadh

67" nice how much did that set you back,i think that would be to big for my living room,i suppose hanging on the wall it would be alright.
ruadh
ruadh - 3/30/2013, 8:38 AM
I think my wife might argue that it's too big for our living room too, but neither of us would be able to go smaller now. I think it was only around $2000, but we got a display set. Also now we have to change out the chip, as it's getting the white pixels. It's an LED one though, not plasma, so we're stuck with a stand. REALLY worth it though.

ruadh - 3/30/2013, 8:47 AM
Also, just thinking about it...this will certainly add to Avengers' total box office. Not a significant amount, but still. If they do this for Thor 2, Cap 2, and then Avengers 2 as well...it adds up.

@ ruadh

Yeah can you imagine a marathon before the Avengers 2 that includes:Iron Man,Thor,Iron Man 2,CATFA,TIH,Avengers,Iron Man 3,Thor:TDW,CA:TWS and Guardians of the Galaxy?This will be one hell of a long day at the cinema xD.
ruadh
ruadh - 3/30/2013, 3:49 PM
@venom0706

No...I cannot imagine it. It's a 2 day thing, even if you skip sleep! The last time I attempted something like that I developed immunity to caffeine.

But yeah...I think my own person marathon (which means I'll watch one a night, for a week or so) will just have to be Avengers, and then all the Phase 2 movies. But you know, if my son pushes just barely, I'm sure including all the Phase 1 movies will be feasible.
