Update #2 Marvel Studios Easter Egg Recap

Update #2 Marvel Studios Easter Egg Recap

Let's take a look at these little additions and decide on their relevance in the Marvel movie-verse; If you know of one that's not listed we'll add it to the list!

To date, Marvel Studios has released two films; both of which relate to a singular story. I wanted to compile all of the little comic book references (known to fans as Easter eggs) that were included in these film in one place. As more Marvel films are released, I'll add the relevant references from them. This will give us a change to review hidden subplots in the films, and attempt to predict other references in the future films.

I will not mention or include films that were/are not released by Marvel Studios. Since those others do not follow the same continuum they are irrelevant to the storyline. I will also not include the small nods that do not pertain to the actual story; for example, Tony Stark's cell phone ring tone was the 1960's Iron Man cartoon theme song. If by chance I missed any relevant Easter eggs, post them below and I'll update the article. Hope you enjoy!

Iron Man

The Ten Rings organization:

- References the Mandarin and his power rings

S.H.I.E.L.D.:

- References the debut of S.H.I.E.L.D. as an official government agency and Nick Fury as it's director.

Captain America's shield:

- References Tony deconstructing the shield that was build for Cap by his father.

- An alien with a dragon-like appearance that is one of Iron Man's greatest foes.

The Incredible Hulk

S.H.I.E.L.D./Stark Industries:

- References Gen. Ross' association with Stark Ind. for weapons systems and his coordination with Nick Fury/S.H.I.E.L.D. for the Bruce Banner manhunt.

Super Soldier Serum/Weapons Plus:

- References Weapons Plus (which was the umbrella program responsible for creating Captain America and Wolverine) and Dr. Abraham Erskine who was the head of the WWII Operation: Rebirth.

Dr. Samuel Sterns/the Leader:

- References one of the Hulk's antagonists.

Dr. Leonard Samson:

- References one of the Hulk's allies.

Tony Stark:

- References Tony's involvement with S.H.I.E.L.D. and the Avengers.

Rick Jones
Update #1 Courtesy of CBM user NightAvenger4

- References one of Bruce Banner's oldest friends and the first person to know him to be the Hulk.

Unconfirmed Thor reference:

* Fans have reportedly seen different things in the clouds above the Hulk; Thor's face, Mjolnir falling, etc. Personally, I just see a storm.

There are a few questions that come to mind regarding these scenes: Will we see them expanded upon in other films? How important are they to the build-up of The Avengers movie?

So now I'll pose the same questions to you all. What do you think the overall importance of these scenes are?

i think its funny that there are so many people on this site that think the storm in IH is some kind of Thor reference. there is NOTHING to make that assumption. then people say they see Mjolnir falling out of the sky, when its really just the rock that hulk throws, thats falling in the background. also, i'm at work so i can't see the pictures, but did you mention Weapons Plus in the Incredible Hulk?? i know its kind of part of Operation Rebirth, but i can't see your pics. :)

@ LEEE

its there, its just REALLY hard to see. unless you freeze the frame at exactly the right part, otherwise you can't see it when the scene is moving and everything.

@LEEE- Nah it's real, I got it on the DVD and you can pretty clearly see some red and blue under the ice and on some of the pictures that are enhanced you could see the outline prety well.

@MPP: Can we say Thor started the Thunderstorm to begin with??? And about something falling from the storm the only thing I saw was rain...

@ SHHH

thats what i'm talking about. people say the storm is supposedly a Thor reference, and that he must have started it, but there is NO proof of that. its just a storm. easter eggs are put in movies for people to see, without a doubt. they wouldn't put an easter egg like that in it, not one that can't be proven. saying Thor started the storm is kinda grasping at straws that aren't there.

the other cameo of cap in hulk was in ross' office, it was just a drawn picture on the wall. i forget the exact placement of it but it was really quick. i think tim roth was just sitting in a chair in a room and ross opens the door and they go for a walk n talk. the pic is on the wall behind him, it pretty small too, I'ld guess maybe 6X8 inches, the angle on it was pretty extreme making it hard to see.

@CorndogBurglar: The only reason I have for asking about The "Thor" reference was the timing of the storm..

The upcoming Thor movie will have No easter eggs to talk about..

@ thoroughbredsteele

i thought they debunked that as an easter egg, because it could have been a piture of ANYBODY and there's nothing saying its steve rogers.
CorndogBurglar
CorndogBurglar - 3/15/2010, 12:01 PM
@ SHHH

yeah i know, its just weird to me, easter eggs are supposed to be things that people can undoubtedly notice. thats extremely vague, y'know?? there's nothing at all saying its Thor causing that storm.
CorndogBurglar
CorndogBurglar - 3/15/2010, 12:05 PM
@ multi

yeah, and thats my point, you can't call something an easter egg if you can't tell what it is, or if there's nothing stating it. like the storm in IH. nothing suggests that it was caused by Thor, so you can't just assume it is. just like that Cap reference, sure he might have a picture of a guy on his wall...hell it could even be a blonde guy, but that doesn't make it a picture of Cap, lol. not unless there's some kind of plaque or something that says Steve Rogers' name.

i am one of the people that believes the Hulk storm reference is a nod to Thor. i believe that because of the initial lightning bolt that hits right next to Hulk, and then Hulk's reaction to that bolt.

in the comics Thor was constantly hasseling Hulk, i see no reason why he wouldn't in the movies.

so its a DRAWING of a guy now?? no offense man, but i don't buy it

TIH producers have already debunked the Thor reference. However, they did confirm the Captain America-in-the-ice cameo in the deleted ending.

Also, some people speculate that Loki takes control of the Hulk when he tries to committ suicide. Banner looks up at the sky and his eyes are glowing. But again, that is not confirmed, either.

In TIH there is a great picture of the Leader as he tranforms. Also, at the very end of TIH some people speculate that there is a Spiderman cameo and a Daredevil cameo. Spiderman is seen just after the helicopter crash. You see him (or what looks like him) swinging from a web across the corner of the screen. Daredevil is seen in the background of New York jumping from building to building. I have seen these cameos, and they do look very odd. There clearly is something jumping on the building, and you do see somebody swing across screen, but there is no way to tell if it was Spiderman or Daredevil. And they have never been confirmed.

Youtube it and see for yourself.

@ macksimus

huh, that sounds weird! never heard of that. i'll look when i get home. sounds like the Tom Jane/Punisher Cameo in Spiderman 2.

also, if Marvel confirmed those 2 cameos, they'd get their pants sued off by Fox and Sony, lol.
ThoroughbredSteele0
ThoroughbredSteele0 - 3/15/2010, 12:19 PM
cool, thanks mult. I'ld never seen a close up of the pic, just the larger one. still looks like him in the bigger one to me, but not in that close up. the symbol in the center looks like the star on his chest with the vertical white and red strips under it. but in your close up its clearly an inverted triangle.

but you gotta admit, there is a resemblance. you think louie did that on purpose?

@CDB, no offense taken, but yeah looking at it closely it def looks like a sketch to me rather than an actual picture.

In Iron Man; when Tony Stark is testing the suit and tries to break the altitude record (just before the suit freezes) on the right of his display screen it shows that the current altitude record is held by the X-Men's BlackBird jet.
