MOON KNIGHT Director Mohamed Diab Says Zack Snyder's DCEU Movies "Didn't Appeal To Him"

During a recent interview, Moon Knight director Mohamed Diab was asked about James Gunn taking over as co-head of the DCU, and revealed that he has no love for the "SnyderVerse" era...

Zack Snyder really has to be considered one of the most divisive directors of all time. While some completely reject the filmmaker's style, others feel he is the best thing to happen to superhero movies, and hail the films that make up the "SnyderVerse" as among the most accomplished the genre has to offer.

One man we can safely place in the former category is Moon Knight director Mohamed Diab.

While speaking to Arabicmarvel.com (via The Cosmic Circus), Diab was asked how he feels about fellow MCU director James Gunn taking over as co-CEO of DC Studios, and he responded by noting that he wasn't a big fan of "the past period" of DC movies - though he does admit that he found the "Snyder Cut" of Justice League to be "significantly better" that the theatrical version.

"I know that some people don’t like James Gunn, but I see him as a great artist who will do great work. Frankly, I didn’t like the past period. The last film, [Zack Snyder's] Justice League, was significantly better than the first version, but in the end, Snyder’s work in all the movies he made didn’t appeal to me."

"I liked James Gunn’s films much more," Diab continued. "I think he’s a much greater artist and a very clever writer, and he will do excellent work for DC. I hope people won’t just criticize him because if he loses the DC audience, he’s done. But he is an artist, and he will create wonderful things."

Diab has never been shy about expressing his opinion of fellow filmmakers and other comic book movies, and previously called out both Wonder Woman 1984 and Black Adam for what he perceives as slights against his home country of Egypt.

There is one DC character he is a fan of, though.

"I’m a fan of Batman. I’d like to give Batman a different take, a Noir style. A movie with drama. Christopher Nolan made us all see that it’s a dramatic movie about someone with tragedy. The new perspective in The Batman is very nice. Whether it’s Batman or someone else, the idea of a person with a real human story, not just a flying superhero."

As for Moon Knight and a potential second season, Diab says he still doesn't know what Marvel Studios has in store for Marc Spector and his various personas, but he seems confident that Oscar Isaac will get the opportunity to reprise the role at some point.

What do you make of Diab's comments? Be sure to share your thoughts in the usual place.

The Batman was a pretty noir take. At least the most in that direction of any live action takes so far.

@harryba11zack -

I never read a comic about Moon Knight, aside from cameos here and there in other books.
I didn't know his backstory, so I was curious about this series when it first came out, when I watched it, I thought it was very good, Isaac did a great job with a character I didn't know anything about,
for me, this was a very good show !

Lol this dude took one of Marvels best characters and turned it into one of the worst adaptations ever. This series was [frick]ing unwatchable. Oscar Isaac is usually great but his performance here was atrocious. Moon Knight was GARBAGE it’s funny he feels confident enough in his work to criticize others.

From a visual and story standpoint his show was awful

Snyder wasn’t the right pick to lead the DCEU but this guy is way worse in terms of artistry and should be shamed publicly for these retarded comments . Moon Knight is horrible and one of the worst marvel adaptations ever - it contributed greatly to the growing mistrust in the MCU

MCU is dying and MK was a big part of it. [frick] this hack- not for his comments but for helping in making a shitty show

@RichardGrayson - Moon Knight was better than everything in the DCEU. Literally everything.

@FireandBlood - lol the movie in your avatar is so [frick]ing overrated no wonder you think this. Black Panther got a 97 because everyone was afraid to give it a bad review out of fear of racism.

It’s like when OJ won. He was guilty but it was seen as a victory for minorities.

Same thing here. Black Panther is a [frick]ing average ass movie but it provides much needed representation for a minority group so people overrated it.

Black Panther is objectively like a 6/10- very average and safe film. But it checked all the SJW boxes so that explains the score.

You wouldn’t see it that way because you are clouded by your personal biases and poor taste though.

@FireandBlood - Yeah nah, I get the ragging hate for all things Synder but nah. Even Synder's worst DC film had greater entertainment value than this this dude's Moon man which was absolute toilet bowl water.

@RichardGrayson - Considering the vast majority clearly don’t share your opinion, logic would dictate it is highly likely that you are, in fact, the one with poor taste. But you probably think it’s ‘cool’ to be a contrarian, so go off.

Moon Knight was still better than everything to come from the DCEU, Black Panther was still a runaway hit with critics partly but not entirely due to is celebration of black culture, and the world isn’t flat.

@RichardGrayson - The fact you’re trying to zero me down to whatever political party you think I support when I don’t even care for politics, suggests you’re obviously more invested in whatever bollocks is going on in congress or parliament than I’ll ever be.
FireandBlood
FireandBlood - 10/8/2023, 1:45 PM
@RichardGrayson - And at some point, you lot have got to get over the fact that people actually loved a black superhero movie as much as they did Black Panther. This lame attempt at a push back will never change that fact. It happened already. Move on.

Always comes back to the “how dare they love that movie as much as did” rhetoric. [frick] me, is it that shocking people loved a movie that celebrated a culture on every level that’s been historically poorly represented? If you weren’t always giving Cap and Superman their flowers for being so quintessentially ‘American’, maybe you’d have a leg to stand on. But you love those characters for what they represent but lambast the reception Black Panther got? And then turn around and have the audacity to act as if your problem with its reception isn’t what it clearly is?

100%, thoroughbred resident of Loserville type shit. I’m bored of it 🥱

@FireandBlood - I agree with you. and people will be crying "the MCU is dying" for the next 20 years as the MCU continues tho thrive....these people are like those conspiracy theory people that keep saying something is going to happen, but never admit to being wrong when nothing actually happens, because they didn't give a time frame so, they can STILL claim it's gonna happen lol...
let them complain online, their complaints don't change anything.

DarkeyeZ - 10/8/2023, 3:09 PM
@RichardGrayson - you took an argument about someones taste in movies and tried to turn it into a political debate? Mr. Fantastic ain't got reach like that lol. it shows a lack of intelligence when you can't focus on the debate topic.
P.S. Both Liberals and Conservatives are both wings of the same idiotic bird.

@FireandBlood -

what a bore, incoherent mess !

also, the statement where Mark says:

"Zack Snyder really has to be considered one of the most divisive directors of all time."

general audiences don't know much about competent, skilled film directors, aside from Spierlberg, Scorsese, Cameron, etc, they don't know/care about other directors let alone, knowing someone like snyder, a subpar, dull, clumsy writer/director...

I'm glad he's out of the dc movies.
DarkeyeZ
DarkeyeZ - 10/8/2023, 3:13 PM
@bobevanz - normies? is the internet really running out of insults to the point where dumbasses consider calling someone "normal" is an insult? lol, this is hilarious...so, if you call someone "normie" as an insult, do you consider yourself "abnromal"?
sitting in the comment section of an article and arguing with people seems pretty "normie"
Radders
Radders - 10/9/2023, 8:38 AM
@DarkeyeZ - "Normie" is usually used as a shorthand way to describe the general audience, its not really an abbreviation for normal. It would only be considered an insult if directed at someone claiming geek cred - its basically saying "you don't know what you're talking about"

Im kind of tired of the noir, super grounded Batman movies. They need to make Batman in his prime.

Huge use of advanced tech and gadgets.
More use of the Bat-Fam.
A batman thats not questioning being Batman.
More emphasizes on him being a ninja. Have him operate in the shadows.

Zack got those but just only saw the cruelty in the character.

If going the League of Shadows/Assassins route. I would love to see Lady Shiva as the villain as Ras Al Ghul general or maybe leader. I think she is an awesome villain long over due for a big screen debut.

That noir Batman is Reeves angle. Make a true Batman in his prime. It should be a kung-fu action film imho.
mountainman
mountainman - 10/8/2023, 11:51 AM
@EgoEgor - The definitive Batman is still TAS version, which is both Noir and has larger than life elements.
bkmeijer1
bkmeijer1 - 10/8/2023, 11:53 AM
@EgoEgor - agreed. Reeves has that Noir Batman down already, so The Brave and the Bold could (and should imo) go in a different direction.

And I actually like Damian being the Robin in that movie, as that could mean the whole Batfamily is running around already.
