Matthew Vaughn On "Kick Ass"

Matthew Vaughn On "Kick Ass"

AICN sat down for an interview with the director of "Kick Ass"...

Slashfilm have compiled a few paragraphs with the highlights from the interview, here they be!

* His Thoughts on the Rough Cut of the Film: “I don’t want to sound too arrogant about the thing because there’s nothing worse than someone saying, “I made the best damn movie of all time!”, then you watch it, and you go, “Yeah…” I can say this… not that it means much… but it’s definitely the best movie I’ve ever made. That doesn’t mean it’s a great film. But, for me, I think I punched above my weight.”

* On Chlow Moretz as Mindy aka Hit Girl: “When you watch it… I will bet you any amount of money you want… anything at any odds… I’ll give you a million-to-one odds if you want… that you will a) fall in love with her, b) buy her, and c) think, “My god, I just saw the Jodie Foster/Natalie Portman of this generation.”" … “If this movie was STAR WARS, she’d be Han Solo.”

* On the Look of the film: “I thought that if I shot it grittily, you’d then expect gritty shit to happen. So I thought let’s do the opposite; let’s make it glossy, so you could easily see these characters in SPIDER-MAN. but it’s like “What would happen if Spider-Man were in the real world?”"

* On Test Screening: “We just test screened [KICK-ASS] three days ago, and I can genuinely say what LOCK, STOCK did for gangster movies, we’re doing for comic book/superhero films.” … “The test scores… I’m not even going to tell you what they were because you wouldn’t believe me. They were just phenomenal. And two of the things that were singled out for praise was that it was unique - it was like nothing anyone had seen before - and that it was fun.” … “Someone described it as “Teenage Tarantino”. And as much as I’d love to think I could walk on that man’s coattails, that a description that made me smile.”

* On a Possible Sequel: “Mark [Millar] and I over a couple of beers came up with one of the funniest, coolest idea for a sequel that we would only be able to get away with if the film does well. We’d sort of dial it up to eleven, shall we say. (Laughs)”

"Kick Ass" has also been confirmed as having an R rating, which will be great news for fans of the violent comic.

With the stunt guy they are using, I think this movie can be incredible. I hope it lives up to it`s potential because maybe then Hollywood will take a closer look at what fans want and not just whatever makes a quick dollar.

i love this comic, i really want this to be an awesome movie!! but after seeing wanted get turned to shiz on a stick, i have to be a little worried. its funny, because most people didn't even know wanted was a graphic novel adaptation. but then again, who would?? there wasn't a single super villain in the entire thing, explain to me again how that movie could even have the name "Wanted?"

Wanted sucked donkey balls imo, and i never even read the comic! But different directors mean very different movies, even though they are both based on Millar's work.
