While many people are clamoring about our superheros being exported, I could care less about their nationality, I do have serious problems with American actors and American men in general being labeled as not manly enough.

Here is a list of some actors that are certainly manly enough for the rest of the world and Hollywood.

Brad Pitt

Known for movies such as fight club and Inglorious Basterds Pitt is certainly able to acheive any look that could be defined as manly.

Matt Damon

Umm how about the Bourne Trilogy? Ever heard of that? Is that Manly Enough for ya?

George Clooney

Star of the American, Batman and Robin, The Men who Stare at Goats, Leathernecks, and many more, Clooney Wears suits so fine he makes Sinatra look like a hobo.

Will Smith

Star of Hancock, Wild Wild West, Men in Black I and II, he played freaking Muhamed Ali.

Robert Downey Jr.

Lets see Iron Man Star also played an Australian Method Actor Kirk Lazarus in Tropic Thunder. He is so Manly he got to play the British equivalent of Superman...Sherlock Holmes.

or how about some other Names like:

Don Cheadle

Jeff Bridges

Clint Eastwood

Aaron Eckhart

Thomas Jane

Johnny Depp

Honestly I could keep on going. (Bruce Willis, Chuck Norris, Bradley Cooper, Mickey Rourke, Leonardo DiCaprio etc.) The point is that all of these guys at one point have either been in a superhero movie or have probably been offered one. The problem with our comic book movie's is that they are either box office Gold or they are poison. Star's are Hesitant to be asscociated with one role their entire life. You would see more of these guys that haven't done cbm's step up and do one if the writing and the direction are good. I do not believe that this is a problem of American Masculinity, I believe that it is a problem of Hollywood producers covering up their own failures.

Also worth noting is that all of the listed above are well over and some are over 50. These movies need young actors in order to build a franchise, they can't have Superman all wrinkly and grey in 3rd movie.

Let's go ahead and look at your list here

Brad Pitt- It's been a long time since Fight Club, and to be honest he was the worst part of Inglorious Baterds. Also, I'm not sure what role that has been "lost" he would've been good for. And then let's also face it, he's famous for being a pretty boy. On the manly man scale, he gets 6.5

Matt Damon- Jason Bourne speaks for himself. He would've been Cap 5 years ago. 9.0

George Clooney- If I rated him right after his Seth Gekko performance I would say he's a 9.0, but since he's gone a different way. He's also too old for anything we're talking about. 7.5

Will Smith- Fresh Prince is THE man 10.0

RDJ- Too eccentric to be considered a manly man. He's brilliant, one of my favorite actors, but not quite tops. 7.5

Don Cheadle- Great actor, but he's not really all that masculine. 6.5

Jeff Bridges- What's the manliest role he's ever done? Rooster Cogburn? He's really just too old more than anything. 7.0

Clint Eastwood-When they talk about American actor's not being manly, they mean they're not men like Clint Eastwood. 100.0...on the 10pt scale.

Aaron Eckhart- I dig, we'll see how he holds up with action in Battle LA. 8.0

Thomas Jane- I'm a huge naysayer of his, but he's gone from punisher to pimp, so that's cool. 7.5

Johnny Depp- You mean the guy the always plays an eccentric, super fruity character. Once again, genius, brilliant, actor, but he gets the lowest rating of the bunch. 5.0

Then for the other group, Bruce and Mickey are both 9 or 10s on the man scale, but they've either been used or are too old for the roles we're talking about. Chuck Norris can't act. Bradley Cooper is a pretty boy. Leo is solid, 8.

So you agree that there are no 'manly' young American actors then?

Talk about proving the point in trying to disprove it.

But don't you think you're taking this just a touch too seriously and being a little over-sensitive? Did someone hit a nerve? Get a grip and stop acting like a girl with hurt feelings ffs. Man up. ;)

Heh, funny, Johnny Depp..."manly"...good one.

Also, continue the list with Harrison Ford? Michael C. Hall? Adam Baldwin? Viggo Mortensen? Mickey Rourke? There are many more....(I'd say Bruce Willis too, but aparently he was born in Germany)

BTW, Clint IS the EPITOME of Manliness!!

Who are our young actors....

Shia LaBeouf-wimpy clever guy

Jesse Eisenberg-wimpy clever guy

Armie Hammer-fairly legit, he'll probably go the way of the hulking action star...he's too big for many other roles

Michael Cera- wimpy clever guy

Taylor Lautner- A little too pretty, but he might have something

Logan Lerman- Smartass, potential breakout as he gets older

Zac Efron- Waaay too pretty

Chris Colfer- Gay Kid from Glee

Jamie Bell- intelligent, weak type

Josh Hutcherson- cute guy next door guy

Christopher Minze Plasse- nerdy dorky weak guy

Yeah.....we got loads and loads of manly men in our youthful actors

The whole point of the "no manly leading men" comment was that they are no NEW manly leading men.
All these actors are established and have careers behind them, some of them have loooong careers.

The point was that it's hard to pick out today's versions of Will Smith, Clint Eastwood and Matt Damon.
There's a lack of their calibre among the break out stars we're getting now.

The following are all under forty, and are capable of participating in action flicks (or more specific to this websites, comic book superheroes). They've all starred in various leading roles, or are close to breaking into one, and are American to my understanding:

Josh Duhamel
Channing Tatum
Ashton Kutcher
Seann William Scott
Josh Lucas
Mark Wahlberg
James Franco
James Marsden
Ryan Phillippe
Jake Gyllenhaal
Adrien Brody
Casey Affleck
Chris Evans
Brandon Routh
Paul Walker
Jeremy Renner
