Blackdot's Rating Scale for Reviews

Ok, so this is a short intro into my reviews. The movies I review will be rated on a scale of 1 to 5 dots, dots being periods or whatever you want to call them. It’s kind of like when you say something and trail off when writing because you get lost in thought. “Wow, that was really awesome…” One dot means it sucked, so there was no need or cause for thought. In general, I’m a fairly lenient critic. If it’s a great movie, awesome. If not, at least the theatre won’t be crowded. Hopefully.

Quick review of Watchmen, for example. It was pretty good over all. The opening action scene was pretty freaking sweet, the story line is (not surprisingly) awesome – definitely one of the best story lines I’ve ever witnessed. The characters and the acting to portray them were both fairly strong – I especially liked Rorschach and the Comedian, but who didn’t? The first “sex scene” was hysterical, and most of the cinematography was solid as well. But that’s about it. The actual sex scene kind of dragged on. I mean, I like nudity, but after a while I got the point. Finish up. I’ve got a movie to watch. Oh – and maybe I should clarify the “I like nudity” thing. I did not need 3 hours of computer generated blue sausage. Perhaps a good ‘creative liberty’ to take would have been that when he wasn’t with his lady friend he chose to be androgynous. And the time. I think the problem I have with the length of the movie is that aside from the opening fight scene, there aren’t very many individual scenes that made me go “whoa”. Or any that I can think of. There were interesting tidbits and good quotes, but no mind blowing scenes. So, with the redeeming quality that Alan Moore wrote one heck of an amazing story, I give it 3 dots…

So there's that - It won't always be point by point like that. I might give my overall view of the movie, or - well, it depends on how I feel about the movie and how I'm feeling the day I write the review.
