Now, I have my own movie review show on the local cable news station. I read comic books every day. I own every volume of Batman: The Animated Series. I was the only one in the theater to laugh at Tony Stark using Captain America's Shield. I was the one that all my viewers came to, thanking me for telling them to stay after the credits of Iron Man 2
How did I change so drastically? Jon Favreau. I went to see Iron Man with my friend, i didn't know anything about it. I didn't see any trailers, i didn't see any posters. For all I knew, it could've been some comedy set to Black Sabbath music. But i sat through it, popcorn in hand, and i was astonished. This was no amateur comedy, this was a work of art. I went home, jumped on my computer and two hours later, I read everything about Iron Man, Demon in a Bottle sypnosis, designs of the Hulkbuster armor, my mind was blown. After The Incredible Hulk, and The Dark Knight, I became a comic book fan. Now, I am one of you.
I realized that comic books were not some little coloring book with words. They were dark, brooding tales, that were sometimes political parodies of our own society.
Comic Book movies have a powerful effect. When done right, they make millions of dollars and become the talk near the water-cooler. With Green Lantern, Thor, The Avengers and so many more movies coming out, websites such as this one will become much more mainstream then they are now.
