Why do we have spoiler alerts, if this is going to be allowed....?

This is my first article, and merely a wish of courtesy, it is not my intent to bash anyone, or start any trouble!

As an avid reader of this sites content, and general superhero fan, I frequent articles to get plenty of details on my favorite heroes. This site doubles as a great intel forum for awesome shows like "The Walking Dead" as well. I have never had a profile, and was going to get around to making one, but today's events motivated me to create one.

As of January I have been deployed, serving for the Air Force, and I cannot keep up with one of my favorite shows, the aforementioned "Walking Dead." I am a huge fan of the show and have seen season 2 part 1. I have been patiently waiting to come home and finish out the season. Today (13 March) I typed in the site address as I always do everyday to get the scoop on movies like "The Avengers," and "The Dark Knight Rises," as most of you probably like to do as well.

Comicbookmovie.com has always been good at giving lead-ins and for spoiler alerts. Today was not the case though. The first thing I see on the homepage of the site, is Zombie Shane. Now, First I thought that the image and line was just fan fiction, though I knew subconsciously that this wasn't the case. As excited as I am to see the rest of the season, it is very dissappointing that such massive spoilers are thrown around on the homepage literally days after the airing of the show.

I love this site, and didn't necessarily come here to complain, in fact, I hope to be a great contributor someday because I love hearing what other people think! Please just be courteous of other people who may not have yet seen a series finale!

Thank you!

Marcus

I second the motion.

Same here, that picture of zombie Shane threw me off. Please, take it down this is really careless, especially if you are doing it for a show like the Walking Dead. It is a slap in the face, get rid of it.

A spoiler is only a spoiler if it hasn't been aired yet. If you can't keep up with the times then you shouldn't complain about it.

@kingmonkeyman

Thank you for your response first of all. Second, as I said, I am deployed and cannot watch the show here. Most sites have common courtesy regardless of when a show aired, but escpecially recently, to not post spoilers. As much as I'd love to "keep up with the times," being deployed in the military simply does not allow that.

@kingmonkeyman It isn't that simple. As the author makes clear, he is not in a postion where he is able to access the show at the same time as the US audience does.

Here in New Zealand, the first season wasn't aired on our national network until October last year, and the second season hasn't even returned from its hiatus yet. If I had chosen to be patient with such a frustrating delay, a spoiler of this nature being displayed so candidly would have pissed me off a great deal.

I know that this website is made up of a base of eager and news-thirsty fans such as myself, but as a site which celebrates comic book shows and movies I think that there should be a degree of respect for all of its visitors, and not just those who don't mind/crave a daily dosage of spoilers.

If you're looking for a media blackout on every thing you're interested in then I am afraid you are in the wrong place. I knew that Shane was going to die before I saw the episode but it didn't ruin it at all for me. How long are you supposed to wait to talk about something after it airs, a week, month, should we make a poll asking if its now alright to comment. It's not my fault people come to a site full of spoilers (intentional or unintentional), and then complain about it when it ruins their day. For a guy that's only seen the first episode of the season, to come to a site like this and not expect to be spoiled for the rest of the season, you must be pretty delusional.
It would be like going to a sports site the day after the Superbowl or Stanley Cup finals and complaining that they reported who won. It's called [frick]in NEWS. Get with the program you whiny bitches.

Okay, name calling isn't necessary. We're all mature here, at least I'd like to think.

Wow Kingmonkeyman....you are seriously a level 5 douche nozzle.....I agree....I cant watch the new episodes til the next day...i check this site every single day for Avengers updates and that pic popped up and it pretty much ruined the episode for me.

Yeah I agree, especially for people in the UK (like me) our episodes run behind, came on this morning and and saw that and thought "Great...." Fair enough do an article about it with a spoiler warning, but front page really??

Completely agreed. I'm in Australia, so that new episode doesn't air for me out here on TV. I usually watch it online a day or two after, and for the biggest spoiler of the season to be the main thing on the homepage, it's kind of ridiculous. I was very upset for a few hours haha. It's fine to have spoilers on this site, as long as the articles have the "Spoiler Alert" warning. Well said, Marcus! All the best man.

I thought that was the point of this whole site? O_O

Wait its not?

Where do I go from here? Nothing is the same.

Asking for this site to stop with spoilers is like talking to a cat about astrophysics. These are the same people that posted that Snape died in a headline before the final HP even came out, then insulted everyone for not having read the book. Whoever runs this site loves his trolling.

Spoilers should not be posted on the front page!!! How difficult would it be to just put an image of "The Walking Dead" and in big red letters spoiler alert, then have the spoiler on the 1st page of the jump. They do that stuff for Man of Steel...and its just speculation!

I guess the real argument is, what is the statue of limitations on a spoiler? In my opinion, if you do not wish to know what transpired on a show the day after it aired, you should steer clear of these sites. Since you are a long time reader of Comicbookmovie.com you should know that they would post something of this nature, the day AFTER the episode aired. Now if they were to post it the day before it aired then in my opinion that is a spoiler.

While I don't agree with them posting a huge image of zombie Shane as the banner, I can understand why they did it. It was a huge event on a show that this site covers and they wanted their users to talk about it.

as a UK resident this episode hasen't aired yet so the article in question has totally ruined the end of this series for me. this spoiler issue is becoming more frequent but could easily be avoided, just post a thread saying end of season story revealed
RidiculousFanBoyDemands
RidiculousFanBoyDemands - 3/13/2012, 1:47 AM
I think it is okay to post about a show the day after it aired, because everybody who is a fan of the show has had an opportunity to watch it in some capacity. Those that haven't should know better then to go on a site that is notorious for spoilers.

For movies I believe there should be about a week before anything that can be considered a HUGE spoiler should be on the banner. This way it gives hardcore fans ample time to see it, and those that didn't probably wouldn't care one way or the other. If you don't want to be spoiled, you should be responsible for the sites you go to. People come to this site looking for spoilers, and to discuss big events that happen in their favorite shows, movies, comic books etc. No offense dude, but you should have known better.

Didn't we all go through this already with the Wolverine cameo in First Class?

Last thing I will say, if you don't wish to be spoiled, then don't venture to websites that are notorious for posting them. Go on a internet entertainment site black out until you have watched whatever it is you do not wish to be spoiled.

I'm sure there are quite a few people (myself included) who come to this site partly for the spoilers!

I understand that some people can't see new episodes or movies right away, but is everyone on the site expected to wait until they have?

And this site is a news site. The episode had aired. I don't watch the walking dead but i understand that its fairly big news. If I wanted to avoid details on something I would not be coming to this site.

Then again, as I said, I don't watch the walking dead. Maybe if it was a spoiler about something I love I would agree with you.... but then i've never had a problem with this site so far!

marcuskiner - 3/13/2012, 1:53 AM
Well guys, for me a spoiler is something like giving away a major plot point, whether it be an image, or phrase.

@RidiculousFanBoyDemands

Not necessarily everyone comes here for spoilers though, most of what I come here for is insight to something. The Dark Knight rises being a prime example. I think there's a big difference besides knowing for instance, that the movie is going to be inspired by "A Tale of Two Cities," and what is in the prologue. While some people want to know all the details, not everyone does. So I think that as a sign of respect, a simple spoiler alert, as a poster said earlier, should be in place, in my opinion that is.

Thanks for your response!
deepstrike
deepstrike - 3/13/2012, 1:55 AM
And for those of you who come purely to look up movie updates about the avengers or dark night rises, why not just bookmark the news feeds for those specific films?
RidiculousFanBoyDemands
RidiculousFanBoyDemands - 3/13/2012, 1:55 AM
The bottom line is take responsibility for the sites you venture to. Don't blame the site for posting something you would consider spoilerish, blame yourself for being foolish enough to think they wouldn't.
Sparrowsabre7
Sparrowsabre7 - 3/13/2012, 2:25 AM
For everyone saying "don't blame the site" We're not saying don't post spoilers, but they should go in the news threads, not on the front page image for all and sundry, that way people who want to be spoiled AND people who don't can enjoy the site.
marcuskiner
marcuskiner - 3/13/2012, 2:25 AM
I agree with NoRegrets... By your logic RediculousFanBoyDemands, there shouldn't be ANY spoiler alerts on this site then, what sense does that make?
