Got a Little Captain in You?

An editorial about recent casting...

2 years ago Iron man and The Incredible Hulk hit the big screen. Many fans waited until after Iron Man was over to see the Easter Egg of Nick Fury (played by Samuel L. Jackson). Walking from the shadows as debonaire as always, Jackson delivered the bullet heard around the world. "I'd like to talk to you about the Avenger Initiative," was the cause for ovation that day as we eagerly anticipated The Incredible Hulk for another cryptic message. Our wait was not long... as General Ross sat in a bar and in sauntered Tony Stark. I remember joking with my buddy quoting Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa (Shang Tsung) from the first Mortal Kombat Movie, "It has begun!!"

2 years have past and we are ready for another Iron Man, but what of the other Avengers? Imdb has a cast line-up already featuring Hawkeye, Hulk, Iron Man, Captain America, Black Widow, Thor, Nick Fury, and War Machine. Thor is beginning production with Chris Hemmsworth playing The Nordic God of Thunder and we're still arguing who should play Captain America. Should it be the guy from The Office, whose nose and ears would get more screen time then all the other actors or should it be the Australian, Sam Worthington? Wait... maybe Mike Vogel or the dude from Supernatural? Oh geeze... scheduling conflicts.. maybe an unknown guy.. howabout.... Derek Theler or maybe try Dane Cook? Dane Cook? Really?

I know that we are still as excited about an Avenger's movie like we were 2 years ago, but this Captain America bit is getting old. Everyone is checking their Twitter to see the latest innuendo leading to possible casting. Everyone has the inside scoop as to who the leading man is and daily it is someone new or it goes back to John Krasinski.

C'mon... can you really see this guy as the All-American, Super Soldier?

Yeah... me neither, but this is where it seems we are heading. Let's just hope that they have a script to work with first that is very solid before they make another mistake like X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

yes i can! he's an actor. let him act

it's funny how many people on here claim they know how cap should be portrayed on screen. post after post of people saying it has to be this way and that way. well what qualifies them to post such things? how are they the ultimate authority on who and what a character is? it doesn't matter. because we're all here to have fun and share our thoughts.

but my question is - if you think you know what's right and what's wrong for cap - then why can't John Krasinski know it as well?

he's not going to act like Jim from The Office. im sure he's heard of captain america before and will bring all the things we talk about on this site to the role.

if, in fact, he does have the role.

I'm going off of the source material. I'm going off the comic books that have been written for decades and I'm not criticizing his acting skills.. I'm criticizing his looks.

My thing is they should have a solid script first, then find the actor perfect for the role. Unfortunately, everyone does it ass backwards.

hey man i understand completely. i think they should've changed up the story just a little so they could cast a better, older actor who looks more like him.

but if this is how they want to do it then i can live with it. he's, in my opinion, more likeable and watchable than any of the rumored choices i saw before today.

just get that man a protein shake and let's do it!

oh and props for the MK quote!

FUK YOU! GO KRASINSKI!

Normally... I'd ignore stupidity... but considering I'm quitting smoking I'll make an exception. It's an editorial Joker1Zero, which means on my fan page I can write an opinion on anything I want. If I feel like saying Krasinsky is a big nosed/eared monkey that lacks the testicular fortitude to be Captain America I have just that right. Who are you to tell me to go fuk myself?

Let's not speculate until the final Announcement is made. Then we can see who won.

I want to play too!! How does one win or loose in this game? Personally I think we all won by having Krasinski drop out of the race. He cannot be Cap no matter how good an actor he may be. We need a combination of someone who is a good actor and has a look that is at the very least similar to what the character looks like in the comics.

John Krasinski can be Captain America and Janeane Garofalo can be Wonder Woman. Let the actors act!

I'd go with Chris Evans too, but what would they do if they needed the Fantastic 4 to assist the Avengers?

I guess now we can close this case.
