Geek and gamer girls are like unicorns: they’re not supposed to exist. That’s why a group of geek and gamer girls banded together to form the singing quartet humorously known as Team Unicorn. Geek babes Michele Boyd, Clare Grant, Milynn Sarley, and Rileah Vanderbilt cosplay their way through the music video for their song Geek and Gamer Girls, a parody of Katy Perry’s California Gurls.

As it turns out, each and every member of Team Unicorn has some experience entertaining the geek audience. Gamers might recognize Michele from The Guild, a hit Web series about a dysfunctional group of World of Warcraft players. Milynn, known as “TheGamerChick” on YouTube, hosts a Web series for Electronic Arts. Star Wars fans might remember Clare and Rileah as the producers and stars of Saber, a funny video that won the 2009 Star Wars Fan Film Awards for Best Action and Audience Choice.
The girls don’t just entertain geeks; they’re all geeks themselves. They all cosplayed Sailor Moon characters at the 2010 San Diego Comic-Con. Milynn, Rileah, and Michele play in the same World of Warcraft guild. They all wrote the lyrics to Geek and Gamer Girls themselves, filling almost every line with coherent geek culture references. Most of the toys and games in the video came from their own homes.
Robot Chicken creator Seth Green lends his hidden rapping talents to the song. Other geek celebrities lending their cred to the video include Marvel Comics legend Stan Lee and Battlestar Galactica actress Katee Sackhoff.
Rise of the Geek Babes
G4TV host Olivia Munn popularized the geek babe archetype in the first decade of the twenty-first century. Now we have four geek babes in one music video. With the continuing rise of geek culture and niche media, expect even more geek babes to enter the limelight.
