Thoughts About CBMs of the Future

Thoughts About CBMs of the Future

Just another editorial about upcoming comic book movies; this time with no biased opinions involved (well except maybe for the whole Batman thing, maybe).

Editorial Opinion

Lets get one thing out of here, I haven't been making articles for this site in a while. In fact the last one I made was a fan cast for a Guilty Gear movie, and that was over a year ago. But with the recent surge of editorials gaining attention(or as I like to called them User's Opinions Over Shit No One Else Will Care Till Now), I think I should do one of my own. You know, because I want to get involve with this site more other then lurking the comment section arguing with some asshole I don't know.

So let me start off with the biggest subject as of recently:

Ben Affleck as Batman

There is one thing we all can agree about opinions on the internet; there are only two sides, the right side and the wrong side (and if you say there is a middle ground, well guess what, that is nonexistent on here). This is very apparent when it comes to the whole Affleck situation. One side (which at this point the right side) supports the casting of Ben as the Bat for these following reasons:
- Recently improving as an actor compare to back then.
- Wasn't really that bad as Daredevil (especially considering the director's cut of the film itself).
- Actually look like him (the above picture doesn't lie, he has the chin and hair to actually pull off the Bruce Wayne look).

The other side pretty much object to this casting for reasons of believing that there is a more suitable actor to play Batman. How far this opinion went? Well . . .

. . . let's just say it escalated quite quickly.

My opinions over this casting, which is really nonexistent, is that I am in middle ground here. Tell you the truth, I never really was impress with Ben Affleck the actor. Director, producer and writer Ben Affleck, he has my utmost, obsessive respect; but the actor, not so much. Admittedly I have yet to see Argo, but I stand by my stand that I just find him alright. But in terms of the role for Batman being that of a veteran crime fighter in comparison to Superman in the upcoming film, Affleck would be the best choice (after all, Daredevil isn't far too different from Batman; ignoring Miller's involvement with both characters). Plus, when it comes to Batman casting, there will always be a 50-50 chance for the actors to nailed the role they are in; so in short I pretty much don't care who is cast as a Batman related character.

World's Finest Movie

I am both exited and worried about this movie. For one thing, we are actually getting the Batman/Superman film we always wanted since that minor scene from that one Will Smith sci-fi movie (the one about zombie apocalypse, not the robot one or any of those alien blockbusters). It will be cool competition against the Avengers sequel.

However, I am worried that such crossover will get in the way of the fact that this is a Superman sequel. This movie should still focus on Superman, and Batman should at best be just a supporting character and not, at worst, the main focus of the film itself. He should only serve as a growth for Superman's character and not some spotlight hog due to GA's love for the character (like Iron Man for all the Avengers, mostly Cap due to him being written as the main character).

Also, I hope the villain they use for the sequel is someone that hasn't been used yet. I like to see Lex Luthur, but I really want the main villain fought be someone like Brainic, Metallo, Parasite, or even Bizarro. I just hope this film elevates even further from most previous like how the last movie did.

Captain America: Winter Soldier

Really exited for this film! Really turning out to be a surprise considering the director's roots as comedy directors. Its like GI Joe Retaliation, where the director's previous involvement was a tween concert movie yet manage to make a movie that was more true to its source material than the previous one (and more entertaining, need I remind everyone). Can't wait to see that and . . .

Guardians of the Galaxy

Seriously, what this movie is doing to Blue Swede is exactly what This Is The End did to Backstreet Boys! I can't wait for this movie to come out! The comics are pretty entertaining and there is no denying James Gunn ability to direct (see Slither and Lollipop Chainsaw for example). Definitely going to be my favorite next year.

Avengers: Age of Ultron

Pros:
1. It is the sequel to the Avengers
2. New characters are being introduced and Hawkeye will (hopefully) have more focus.
3. Ultron is the main villain.

Cons:
1. The whole Quicksilver issue (see DOFP point).
2. Possibility of failing fans expectation (Masters of Evil would of been cool as the villains instead of Ultron).
3. Ant-Man not being involved in any way (seriously, why get rid of the detail of him being Ultron's creator *).

* Please no arguements involving Stark being the creator instead, adaptions will always be different from comics, and Ant-Man not being a part of the MCU. I just saying that because I really want Ant-Man in the movie as promised in the development of the first movie. Honestly, I blame Earth's Mightiest Heroes for making me a fan of that guy.

Ant-Man

Again, really exited but still worried about the film. The fact that it isn't going to be part of the universe is one thing, but the lack of info of the film's villain, Wasp inclusion, and no Ultron makes me a bit antsy (no pu . . . you know what, [frick] it, pun FULLY intended; I walk myself into that one, and I am proud of it).

But since Edgar Wright is involve, I might as well just wait and see how this turns out in the end. I have faith that this guy will make an awesome movie in the, whether it succeed at the box office or not.

Black Panther

Honestly, I never really cared. Yeah, I know as a black comic book fan I should of been more supportive to the idea of more black heroes on screen (or rather forced due to peer pressure); but to be honest I never really care for Black Panther that much. To me, I think this was just in development and have such a fan reception because of the fact that it is a black super hero alone (which is pretty much the whole point to begin with). As far as story, it would be like a black version of Thor without all the powers (or Aquaman, the two aren't so different for being badass kings who are overshadowed by everyone else).

I prefer a Heroes for Hire movie instead; that way it will still be an original super hero movie and not seem overly tacked on as a black super hero movie.

The same could be said for Dr. Strange for the magic lovers in Marvel; especially if someone like Daniel Radcliffe or Johnny Depp is involve.

. . . . . Oh God, this point is just flame written all over it! Hope mature people are reading this and would argue in a sensible fashion (as well as myself, for admittedly my head is usually up my ass).

TMNT

Could be bad. Could be good.

Downside for me is that Megan Fox is starring as April, Michael Bay is producing this, and changes are made for the story.

Upside, however, is that MF could be a surprise in the movie, the director of the film previously did Wrath of the Titans (an improved sequel and have great action), and changes are made for the story (it is TMNT, what did you expect). As long as they are not going too realistic with the turtles. Especially scientifically accurate.

Either way, I want a live action My Little Pony movie right now! If Hasbro was crazy enough to think Battleship was a good idea, they might as well make an adaption for the little girls who like that shit (and grown men, can't forget about them). Which reminds me . . .

Transformers 4

. . . . I don't know what the [frick] is going on with this movie.

No seriously, I have no clue whatsoever. After Dark of the Moon, I pretty much just say "Well that's it for the movie series, might as well shift my Hasbrobsession from Transformers to MLP"; because, you know, ponies are a thing as of lately. So while I was busy figuring out who is better between Fluttershy and Rarity, as well as noting how the whole Canterlot Wedding episode is eerily similar to the plot of Avengers (Did I just inject fanfic fuel for the Hawkeye/Loki shippers?), any Transformers news that isn't Prime just flew by me just like that.

What made me actually interested in the film all of the sudden are two things: its being filmed in Detroit, and they might be bringing in the Dinobots in the sequel. Seriously, the Dinobots! Every Transformers fans know that Dinosaurs equels instant awesome in all TF series. Look to the recent season of Transformers Prime; god I hope Grimlock appears anytime soon in both the show and movie.

Amazing Spider-Man 2

In short: really exited for this movie, hope it does well, and please no scientific accuracy **.

** Because of how [frick]ed up the Scientifically Accurate Ninja Turtles video is, I decided not to show the one for Spider-Man (as well as Duck Tales, which is the worse).

X-Men: Days of Future's Past

I am going to be honest, I am always judgemental when it comes to the X-Men series after X-Men Origins Wolverine. All the unnecessary changes made to characters, the complete disregard of its own canon and its constant focus on Wolverine.

I have to admit, the series is getting better but I just skeptical to say that it is great. The recent movie that is coming out is receiving the same treatment from me.
Cons
- It might focus on Wolverine as the main character again.
- Lack of trust in Bryan Singer.
- Fox rule with having all rights on mutants, negating all chances of other mutants appearing in other movies (even if said mutants have significant involvement in other Marvel properties).

But there are positives.
Pros
- Based on an actual X-Men story (like the second movie).
- Time Travel to retcon crap out.
- Continuing from First Class.

Though what made me skeptical again is that Fox might [frick] it all up, so why should I really bother with this film in the first place?

Oh yeah, this:

After waiting for 7 movies, finally, the Sentinels are making their actual appearance in the movie. So me being exited is a bit of an understatement.

Anyway, those are all my thoughts that I have. I hope you enjoyed this short little read I have written. Also, if you have the chance, check out my Guilty Gear fan cast if you haven't already right here: Guilty Gear: The Missing Link.

Once you said you didn’t care for BP, I stopped caring for your article. Then you had the nerve to compare him to Aquaman SMH.

Never quote, allude, or reference South Park for anything. Matt Stone has effectively tainted a great deal of celebrities and movies with their popular stupidity, and while some may be deserved, they go way too far.

Gonna tell you big guy, this isn't Facebook. We don't post short opinions like status updates, just to give your thoughts on the WIPs. It's not even the stance you have on any of these topics - the trouble is you're playing with flashcards and inkblots, only there's no analysis. It's like you're playing with yourself and the answers are on the back of each card, which you flip over to read and write here.

I know I'm being harsh, but you've got to understand that editorials are meant to be thought-provoking. They are meant to make people CONSIDER what you have to say, and possibly inspire some thought afterwards.

GOTG will not be the NEW Star Wars because Star Wars is pretty untouchable and there is no way a small comic(though entertaining with some great stories) with 1 movie will ever come close to the near 40 yearlong franchise which revolutionized everything! From movie making to our strive for technology to our interest in space, to our pop culture, to the way things are written to the way things should be looked at. It is in every form of media, every form of literature, every form of toys. A scale like that is unreachable for a movie just starting out. If you were to include the entire MCU then maybe you could call it the new Star Wars but it is still no where near as close because it has not truly revolutionized the way we see movies or the way movies are made, it has 2 movies that were very impacting for the long run; Iron Man and The Avengers.

Honestly, I think TMNT could be good.

On some of your picks, I'm really excited for
DOFP
Superman/Batman
and Avengers Age of Ultron.

Not in that order. I don't really care about Ant-Man or Guardians of the Galaxy. We know my feelings on TASM2. And nothing has come out about a Black Panther film so I can't give an opinion on a film that there is nothing about.

Moohika - 8/26/2013, 2:39 PM
Regardless of people liking the pick for Batman or not, everyone is still going to see it. I know some fanboys said they would wait for the DVD but that's bullshit considering how much they are still complaining about it.

I hope they dont rush TAS2 with the sinister six, have a fully developed villian like they did with Doc Ock in Spidey 2, but i guess as you grow older and the deeper you gain knowledge of classics villians names etc. the more predictable their actions on screen become. Please don't make spidey finish electro by throwing him in a swimming pool! :D

I'm all for Affleck as Batman, but saying that people are wrong for having a different opinion completely ruins your point.

Why is this even on main? It's just another fanboy's irrelevant thoughts.

@2Challa
Whoa, totally called it!

Anyway, I didn't really meant that as an insult. Black Panther is a cool character, I just wasn't really feeling for a Black Panther movie yet.
The whole Aquaman comparison was just my own observation of his character as a whole; I actually like Aquaman (mostly from the Peter David run and his recent portrayal in both cartoons and comics).

@Tainted87
Alright (even though I am not really seeking to be deep in this article in the first place, just doing it for fun like other articles before mines).

@TheOneAboveAll
Okay, except, I never really said anything that lead to the comparison of the two series to begin with.

@dougieisrollingthejays
In a lot of interviews I heard about the Ant-Man movie, the film itself is said to be a stand alone compare to the other Marvel Cinematic Movies. That means the Ant-Man itself isn't a part of the Cinematic Universe.

@WebSwingingDude
Agreed. That is why it is a good thing that movie series will have 4 movies, giving more than enough time to introduce each villains (tell you the truth, some Spider-Man villains don't really need a major introduction so I don't see how hard it is to bring on the Sinister Six.

Problem with your logic there.
1. I am in between on the whole issue with Batman. Both sides have good and bad reasons for Affleck, which is why I chose to be neutral.

Damn . . . I mean, damn. Do you really have to be so pissy? Especially considering your username.

From all the Ant-Man news I gather was that the movie itself was going to be a stand alone in Phase 3 and wouldn't have any ties with the Avengers. That is most of the info I have received.

I am looking forward with anticipation to most of these. X-Men:DOFP looks like it has the potential to be one of the most truly epic CBM's that we have ever seen. Guardians of the Galaxy could become something really special, in terms of all-ages sci-fi.

I don't see how Batman/Superman is competition for the Avengers:AoU. The Avengers will have made its billion by the time B/S comes out 2+ months later. BTW, I am "excited" for the Age of Ultron, but I have never been "exited" for any particular film. I have "exited" many movie theaters after seeing a movie.

Thank you for picking up on my typo and instead of informing me on my mistake, relentlessly use sarcasm to show your intellectual superiority over my own. We really need more of you guys to help improve the grammar and spelling of the internet; no, the whole world. Cause after all, sarcasm is the definite way to guide people to writing better articles and chide them for making a typo. Hell, I should just go ahead nuke myself and people within a square mile for ever living in my area to make the internet a better place for reading and writing.
