You should keep in mind that I made these choices based on the films' COMPLETE soundtracks & scores, not just on the main themes.
10. Hulk
Although the film might not have received wide critical acclaim, it's safe to say that Danny Elfman's haunting and mysterious Hulk soundtrack helped establish how music is used in today's modern superhero movies.
9. Daredevil With a soundtrack mixed with many of the early 2000's popular rock bands such as Evanescence, Nickleback, & Hoobastank; combined with a dark & somber score, this soundtrack more than met many expectations.
8. Avengers Containing one of the best superhero themes of all time, the Avengers soundtrack matched the many epic moments of the film and it invites you to cheer on throughout.
7. Iron Man Many believe Iron Man helped revive the comic book genre in movies, and it's due in part by it's heavy Rock n Roll soundtrack making a point that superhero's can be bad-ass.
6. Spider-Man 1 & 2 Sounding very similar in comparison, both Spider-Man 1 & 2's soundtracks embody what a true heroic film should sound like. The chills one gets when Peter Parker first puts on the Spidey costume, while Danny Elfman's Spider-Man theme blared throughout is unforgettable.
5. Kick-Ass In what is surely the most surprising comic book movie hit, Kick-Ass had it's own unique visuals and style accompanied by a soundtrack that hit the right notes in every scene. It's almost impossible not to feel hyped, sad, and happy when listening to this inspired soundtrack.
4. Watchmen What Watchmen's soundtrack did is nothing short of a miracle, it transported us back to the 60's with many of that times classics. The score and the movie also compliment each other so well by setting us in an extraordinary immersive atmosphere.
3. Batman (1989) Your'e not a real comic book movie fan if you haven't heard the original Batman (1989) theme by Danny Elfman. It's whole soundtrack even went on to be almost replicated onto other Batman movies that followed in the 90's, although not quite matching the original's greatness.
2. The Crow It's rare when a soundtrack enhances the movie experience, but The Crow's soundtrack does exactly that and more. In a sense, this soundtrack could be considered an alt-rock masterpiece as it's filled with classic's like, The Cure's "Burn", Nine Inch Nails cover of "Dead Souls", and "After The Flesh" from My Life With The Thrill Kill Cult.
1. The Dark Knight Dark. Twisted. Tense. Wonderful. Bold. James Newton Howard and Hans Zimmer's soundtrack to The Dark Knight is something to behold. Not only have they given us a Batman theme that will be hard to surpass, but they deliver a Joker theme that will be remembered for years to come. Not to mention, a soundtrack so captivating that it gives new meaning to the word "epic". One of the best soundtracks to a comic book movie, and perhaps any movie, ever.
Honorable Mentions: Wanted, Spawn, The Punisher, Batman Begins, Batman Forever, Superman (1978), Scott Pilgrim.
Note: I only chose from movies that were derived from comic books. That means no Tron: Legacy, Star Wars, etc, although I really love those.
