Dune has been playing in certain parts of the world for a couple of weeks now, but Denis Villeneuve's sci-fi epic is not set to hit theaters in the US and UK until October 21, and Warner Bros. has now shared a final trailer to ensure excitement levels stay at maximum.

This latest look at the Frank Herbert adaptation reuses some footage from the previous teasers, but there are a few stunning new shots of the desert planet of Arrakis, and glimpses of the prophetic visions that plague young Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet) and the mysterious Fremen girl he sees in his dreams (Zendaya).

Be warned, though, as there is some stuff here that might be considered a bit spoilery for anyone who hasn't read the book.

Dune has been performing very well at the international box office, having recently passed the $80 million mark. How it fares when it's released in theaters and on HBO Max later this month obviously remains to be seen.

For those unfamiliar with the source material, Dune follows the Atreides family as they relocate to the desolate planet of Arrakis to assume control of the production of the most valuable resource in the galaxy, the Spice Melange. Unfortunately, an act of treachery soon makes an outcast of The Duke Atreides' youngest son Paul, and he must accept his destiny as a powerful prophet of the Arrakis natives known as The Fremen.

Do you guys plan on seeing Dune on the big screen? Let us know in the comments, and be sure to check back here for our review next week.

@Odin - I'd probably agree, but I'd need to take in and actually see part 1 first.

@Odin - I'm fine waiting til it comes out...

I can wait for part 2 as well...

I'll just watch Black Adam in the meantime...maybe.

@Odin - I'm actually waiting for part two to be released, because if this upcoming one doesn't have a proper ending (like I keep reading) because it is part one of the story, I would rather not have a long wait to see what happens next (or "if" it even made), so I'll hold off and not watch this part one until the other half is released.

I've done this several times. Most notably the 3 Lord of the Rings films (I waited until the third one was at theater before I watched the first two), and the same for all three Back to the Future films.

But I'm not normal.

@LameLuka - "Not watching it is not going to get you Part 2."

That is correct. Good thing I'm not trying to get me a Part 2 by not watching it.

I "think" I know what you are really trying to state, but I don't want to get invested in a story that is only half complete if it isn't finished. There is no loss on my part here, as there are more great stories in films out there than I will ever have time to see.

This is maybe just one of the many. Again, no loss on my part.

And, again, I'm not getting invested in half a story until I know I'm getting the full story.

Thanks for your reply.

@RorMachine - wait, is there a reason you can't review yet in terms of embargo or something like that? Because that would really weird, sibce it's been out for a couple of weeks where I live
LSHF
LSHF - 10/7/2021, 1:53 PM
@bkmeijer - I'm guessing the Embargo applies to certain countries.
Cap1
Cap1 - 10/7/2021, 1:57 PM
@LSHF - that doesn’t make a huge load of sense though, since it premiered at Venice and Guardian/Telegraph/IndieWire etc all reviewed it
bkmeijer2
bkmeijer2 - 10/7/2021, 1:59 PM
@LSHF - gotta agree with Cap1, but I guess it could be a reason. Maybe the Guardian etc. all used VPN
LSHF

@Cap1 - Then it is an incorrect guess.
LSHF
LSHF - 10/7/2021, 2:04 PM
@bkmeijer - Beats me. It was an uneducated guess. If I was educated on the subject, I probably would not have "guessed", but knew. LOL.

I really am clueless on this one. I'm glad your country got it earlier.

@RorMachine -

I can't wait to read it. I've absolutely loved the movie. The best movie I've seen since The Lord of the Rings, and definitely one to watch in theaters.

@RorMachine - I saw Dune last week and I agree it was AMAZING. Now just waiting for Dune (2021) to be released and hopefully it's as good or even better than the one I saw.

bkmeijer2 - 10/7/2021, 10:29 PM
@LSHF - okay yeah. Although it's weird I got to see it earlier, I think it could give those who didn't have the opportunity to also consider the general public consensus. And since I'm part of it: do watch it on the big screen
MarkCassidy
MarkCassidy - 10/8/2021, 3:09 AM
@bkmeijer - yeah I know, it doesn't make much sense but we were asked not to review until week of release. I guess they want a fresh wave of reactions to hit all at once.
bkmeijer2
bkmeijer2 - 10/8/2021, 5:14 AM
@RorMachine - I think that does make sense if its indeed to get that fresh wave of reviews.

And for a change I can see I agree right away when reading your review, instead of much later

@RorMachine - that's awesome! How would you rank it among Villeneuve's other movies?

Haven't read the book or seen any of the previous adaptations. This wasn't bad, but it was just so clearly one big story cut in half. I can't say that things didn't happen, but it didn't feel like our main character had any kind of growht or arc either. It's not a good sign, when I can't really tell, if I liked your movie or not, until I have seen the sequel.

Also, some of the aircraft had really sloppy CGI.
Odin
Odin - 10/7/2021, 1:27 PM
@FinnishDude - A friend of mine, who also hasn't read the book, had similar complaints. I suppose the story and the world are a bit large to properly introduce in one film. It's actually kind of interesting, since the first book actually has three segments, that they didn't do this as a trilogy. Would've given them more time to flesh out the characters and some of the concepts. I guess they doubted if there was ever going to be more than movie. The Syfy miniseries from 2000 might help you, if you're not feeling the books. Kind of a Star Trek-y feeling with that one.
But never the less always better than the Lynch's 80's version.
