I know plenty of women who would be happy if I looked like Ryan Gosling.

But the jacket in the movie isn't leather (or fake leather for that matter)... it's actually a painted cotton jacket...

@HubbleFunk - Well, if you win you can pretend this one is painted cotton too.

@HubbleFunk - Does that mean losing is for winners? Cause I've either been doing everything very right or very wrong my whole life.

So he was an android that they decided to design with a carbon footprint (while the earth was scourged and running low on everything), drank coffee, scotch, ate rice, took a shower, needed to rent an apartment, and oh yes got cold around the neck and face so he needed to buy this coat too. If I designed an android, he would live in a broom closet like Bender until we needed him to do something.

@gulducati - Probably sarcasm, but you do know that the androids are designed to fit in with the blade runner society right?
gulducati
gulducati - 11/23/2017, 12:10 PM
@MalseMarcel - Yes I know that. I'm just pointing out the irony of creating another race of people who consume the same resources that this depicted world is completely running out of. It's a world where real animals are almost all excinct, the earth is mostly scorched, sunlight rarely peeps out, and even wood is scarce to come by. You see that irony, right?

@gulducati - So true, although i guess its good for the economy to literally create an android you know will work and get paid and will have to pay for things like an apartment while eating mass produced garbage food
gulducati
gulducati - 11/24/2017, 8:14 AM
@Hawknaba - Yes, that's what I figured. If you displace a large part of the workforce with an artificial one, you'd better make sure they consume so the economy keeps going. Kind of crazy when you think about it. It's like creating a new dishwasher that could use half the water and half the electricity, but you deliberately make it use just as much as the older model so that the hydro company and water utilities company makes just as much money and keeps their people employed.

Hawknaba - 11/24/2017, 12:24 PM
@gulducati - Somtimes i wonder if there is stuff out there like that already, like you know in the movies where they're like "the pharmaceutical companies have a cheap cure for cancer but if they released it to the masses they'd lose out on medical bills and more expensive meds".

Or even the conspiracy theory that Apple already has the iPhone 16 but only release tech little by little for sales.

gulducati
gulducati - 11/25/2017, 8:59 AM
@Hawknaba - There are things like that already. I work with patent lawyers a lot. In pharmaceutical companies, if they discover a drug that is beneficial, even life saving potentially, the first thing they do is search if someone else has already patented it. Let's say someone has, but is just a student or lab technician with no means to actually produce the drug. The pharma company tries to strike a deal with the holder of the patent, if they cannot, then nobody gets the drug. It's not produced because nobody can make any money off of it.

@Hawknaba - Oh, and yes in software and hardware tech like apple, samsung, there is definitely this kind of thing going on. If the phone can be made .5 inch thick, make this one 1 inch so that you can make next year's thinner for marketing purposes. Just an example.

This is my favorite movie of 2017 so far. It was just amazing! The sounds/music, the visuals, the story, everything was just perfect imo

I love this movie and it makes me so sad that it didn't make as much money as it needed to. The story is amazing, the visuals are incredible, Zimmer's score is damn near perfect for the movie (I do miss Vangelis, though), and the actors were all cast so well. Denis Villenueve is one of my favorite directors. He really cared about this project and you can tell. This is the best movie of 2017 thus far.
