"Let them fight."

In 2020, get ready for the Monster movie to end all Monster movies with Godzilla vs. Kong, an epic film that will pit the two larger-than-life beasts up against one another in the fight of the century.

With Kong: Skull Island hitting theaters today and Godzilla: King of the Monsters on the verge of beginning principal photography, The Hollywood Reporter has learned that Legendary Entertainment is already looking ahead to the eventual team-up movie and have begun work by establishing a writers room.

Terry Rossio, best known for co-writing the first four films in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, will lead the room and he'll be joined by Star Trek Beyond scribes Patrick McKay & J.D. Payne, Lindsey Beer (The Kingkiller Chronicle), Cat Vasko (Queen of the Air), T.S. Nowlin (The Maze Runner, Pacific Rim 2), and J. Michael Straczynski (ThorWorld War Z).

The report adds that once the team works out the best ideas and story beats, a single writer will be chosen to pen the actual script.

So, what do you guys think? Sound off with your thoughts below!

You need that many writers for a giant monster smash up? It ain't exactly The Cherry Orchard.

@TheFamousJMC - Yes, but clearly fans want Kubrick out of these kind of movies. /S

Don't really care about Godzilla vs Kong, but saw Skull Island last night and it suprised the shit out of me, it was pretty damn good. I didn't love its version of Kong as much as the Peter Jackson version, and the CGI on the big guy himself was wonky, but the rest was so good I didn't mind.

The cinematography was breathtaking, one of the most beautiful movies I've seen in a long time. And the music and 70s aesthetic was awesome.

Let them fight... (by them, I mean the writers) See what I did there? :p
The script might be ending in Kong and Godzilla working together to fight another threat. I dont see Kong killing Godzilla or viceversa.

Still excited to see both of them on screen.

@incredibleTalk - The "Martha" scene is one of the most misinterpreted scenes in Comic Book Movies. Even so, that twist on words was funny. Lol

I love Godzilla and I've grown to love Kong! I don't quite understand the hate being spread about these giant monster movies and having a shared universe behind them (Godzilla did do it first marvel...). I enjoy spectacles and well filmed movies with good action and while plot and characters are very important it doesn't ruin a movie of this type. Perhaps that makes the minority here and perhaps my love for hero movies has declined but can you all truly say that you don't want to see giant monsters destroying things on the big screen?
