Earlier today, 20th Century Studios (via SFF Gazette) debuted the first official teaser trailer for Prey, which is set to premiere on the Hulu streaming service on August 5th.

We don't actually get a proper look at the Predator himself, but we do see main character Naru (Legion's Amber Midthunder) running for her life before hiding in some long grass. Another Comanche is there waiting with a bow and arrow, but the ruthless alien hunter has already spotted them, and aims his familiar three-light scope at the unfortunate warrior's head.

Shane Black's underwhelming 2018 effort, The Predator, seemed to put the sci-fi action film series to rest for a while, but it looks like Disney is determined to breath new life into the franchise. The script was written by Patrick Aison, whose producer/writer credits include Kingdom, Jack Ryan and Treadstone.

Check out the teaser below along with an updated synopsis, and let us know what you think.

Set in the Comanche Nation 300 years ago, Prey is the story of a young woman, Naru, a fierce and highly skilled warrior. She has been raised in the shadow of some of the most legendary hunters who roam the Great Plains, so when danger threatens her camp, she sets out to protect her people. The prey she stalks, and ultimately confronts, turns out to be a highly evolved alien predator with a technically advanced arsenal, resulting in a vicious and terrifying showdown between the two adversaries.

Prey is directed by Dan Trachtenberg, written by Patrick Aison, and produced by John Davis (Jungle Cruise, The Predator) and Jhane Myers (Monsters of God), with Lawrence Gordon (Watchmen), Marty Ewing (It: Chapter Two), James E. Thomas, John C. Thomas and Marc Toberoff (Fantasy Island) serving as executive producers.

Looks fairly cool; shot very well, and in a way we’ve not seen in a Predator movie yet. Still much of the same story, but how much more can you do with a Predator tale?

@MosquitoFarmer - I think after part 2 they should have went with a gladiator style setup. Maybe do parts 3,4,5 in different time periods and have had the Predators capture the winners and then have every winner from every film thawed out or recaptured and placed in a Predator Gladiator world where Predators without their weapons must battle the humans without their weapons in an all out battle.

@SonOfAGif - I’d watch that!

These few seconds look more interesting than the last movie.

I'm glad they've gone to another time period, something that can make it different from the predecessor's.

Hope to see Amber Midhunters character join legends like Sarah Connor and Ellen Ripley

@SimplyAz - This picture looked weird to me since day one. Why is she wearing Raybans 300 years ago?

I want a badass name like "Midthunder".

Maybe something like Corndog Thunderstick. Yeah. That would work.

Remember when in Predators (2010), that one Predator fought the Katana-wiedling Yakuza dude in an open grass terrain?

@Fares - I actually liked Predators quite a bit...

@CorndogBurglar - I actually really love the first 3 Predator movies. I didn’t care for AVP or Shane Black’s turn.

@dracula - Honestly, I've liked all the Predator movies except that last one. That was a real piece of crap that they smeared onto a film reel.

AvP movies don't count...they both sucked

@CorndogBurglar - I've come to somewhat appreciate the first AvP, silly as it is. I can't say anything positive about Requiem, though. That one was just ugly and unpleasant.

CorndogBurglar - 5/16/2022, 7:22 PM
@Kyos - The first one is a great example of a movie being severely held back by its PG-13 rating. And there were some scenes where the Predator's costumes was very questionable, especially the feet. But the thing that always gets me is how 1 alien killed like 3 predators in the very beginning. Kinda ridiculous....

@CorndogBurglar - it always struck me as odd that those movies didn't have the predators showing up in the future where they could've had all the alien world and iconography.

Took me a while, but I finally understood the spin on the title. I'm optimistic on this 1.

This will be the final nail in the Predator Franchise coffin

Really a teen age girl going up against a Predator with an axe?

They should of done something like the Predators being hunted in their home-world.

Oh well

@WakandaTech - Dutch won by using intelligence and rudimentary traps. Why can't she?

marvel72 - 5/16/2022, 7:38 PM
@HeeroG - Because Dutch was 250Ilb man with military training, not a 90Ilb woman with an arrow.
HeeroG
HeeroG - 5/16/2022, 9:09 PM
@marvel72 - Yeah, a Comanche woman, born and raised in the nature, having tp survive all the adversities.
I don't know if you watched the 1st Predator, but the 250lb military man got his ass handed to him in a direct confrontation with the Predator, he won by outsmarting him, not because of his phisicality.

Actually kinda look forward to this. It is an interesting take on a continuing the franchise, and a take I hope works.

To me, it looks like it's activily trying to take the franchise in a new direction and isn't just another soulless reboot/sequel/prequel to an 80s franchise.

This is just a lazy unoriginal studio stealing ideas from fan films and taking credit for it.
