well, they look like artificial lungs, I'm pretty sure his real lungs got messed up in the explosion, along with everything else :P
and to give this movie one point over the original, Robocop with lungs makes more sense than Robocop with stomach.

I thought the movie was good and entertaining and much better cast/acting than the original. It's bombing but I think the low expectations brought me in with no place to go but up.

@itCameFromPlanetEarth - If you bothered to watch the movie instead of assuming, then you'd know the reason why.

He's created as a propoganda marketing ploy, he's a cyborg in order to sway the public's opinion that machines can police in the USA because that's the only place in the world that does't allow robots to be used in enforcement.

Showing a Cyborg can police better than a regular cop is the first step, showing a robot can police better than a cyborg is the final step and that way the sway public opinion and gain a lucrative contract supplying said robots.

The bare essentials of his internal organs are all thats needed to keep his brain functioning, obviously they need that to work to show the public he's still a real person inside hence the face just like the original movie. The hand also is the other obvious sign of humanity, its literally the human touch and all the attributes that goes with it that we associate with being human.

Diss the movie all you want but its a pretty good scifi flick and is not flopping at all as you think. Infact after two weeks in international release it's already earned its budget total and although a number three debut at the weekend in the USA, its actually climbed to the number two with very little fall off in the usual expected percentage drops. All that is an indication of good word of mouth its getting form the general public despite polarizing reviews from the critics.

Really enjoyed, was pleasantly surprised at how many questions it actually asked the audience (like the original did) and it not just being a soulless teen action flick.

Also, to say it was a PG-13, the bit where they reveal what's left is pretty striking.

Give me Robocop 2, Dredd 2 and Riddick 4 studios! Nice to see some quality sci-fi in cinema again.

All you idiots saying it bombed. It's already almost made back its budget and for a movie that was almost universally panned before it even came out, that's pretty [frick]ing good.

Only 3 things bad about the movie: The music choice for his training sequence against the bots. The music choice for the credits (which you technically don't need to count). And the somewhat awkward and unsatisfying ending. Everything else was incredible.

Also, since it's the hand he shoot with, it was left there because in the scene with the guy with the robotic hand playing a guitar they showed how bad mechanics work when there's a certain amount of emotions.

Uhhh. He was actually shooting guns with both hands!!!! Lol did you see the movie????
