David Self Talks Robocop and Deathlok!

The Wolfman co-writer discusses the progress of the Robocop reboot and his hopes for a Deathlok movie...

The writer told SuperHeroHype that RoboCop is currently on hold until MGM is able to sort their finances out. "I'm still involved with it and Darren Aronofsky's still involved with it," David Self told them. "We're waiting for MGM to sort things out since they're a larger corporate and it's a situation where we have to be practical. We're waiting to continue with them, we hope that that happens soon and we can get back to it soon."

He also told the site that the movie is "definitely not a sequel. It's an origin story, it's an origin to the original RoboCop. It's basically a 'reboot.'"

However, one movie that seems to have come to a complete stop is the previously rumoured adaptation of Marvel's Deathlok. "I don't know what’s going with that movie honestly," he said. "I haven't talked to the producers recently about that. I did a rewrite on it several years ago and it shows up on my IMDb all the time. It's been a long while since I worked on it, but I would love to see that happen soon. I love that story and I love that character."

Why in gods name would they reboot Robocop? The first Robocop is one've my fave movies of all time. The second one was pretty sweet too.

Maybe they should just pick up where the 2nd one left off & forgot that they ever made that 3rd piece of garbage.

My first time writing something here but a very long long time reader. From Mexico: hi everyone!
@grif totally agree, Robocob is one of my top 10 that should never ever be rebooted.
The next thing will be "Robocop Origins in 3D"

Runefyst- Yes, a reboot of the third would be better. I love the originals but even though they wanna reboot from the start, i can't wait to see it cause it's been too long ;)

Welcome, MA ;)

Guys, I agree that Robocop doesn't "need" a reboot, but the original came out in 1987 and they prob want a new generation of viewers to enjoy it and hopefully this would bring about a series of sequels (I hope). Robocop was the MAN!!! Well ... part man anyway and pat machine but all AWESOME!!! I hope MGM doesn't stall this for too long and we can enjoy a whole new set of Robocop movies! Hopefully just as violent as the original.

thanks for the info. The 1st Robocop will always be a classic but I really want to see and updated reboot of it. Robocop 2 was ok, but they killed it with part 3.

Robo Cop totally does not need to be made. There are a bazillion different comics that could be done if they can't think of anything new.

A Robocop reboot might be pretty cool. Can't beat the classic though. As for Deathlok, I never read much on him so that would be cool to see.

A Robocop reboot is completely un-necessary as the original has stood the test of time.

They were originally going to get Peter Weller back into the suit and just start another Robocop adventure, which is the way to go.

Ridiculous.

Do another movie, and just like comic books, when you find a cool one, go back and find the other stories or the origin.

I guess if you don't love Robocop, this isn't good news. Personally I loved it. I remember buying a tickt to a diff movie and having to sneak into Robocop because I wasn't old enough to watch yet. That movie was EPIC! I don't think you can improve on the original, but I would like to see him make a come back.

I rewatched it last weekend just b/c I had forgotten how COMPLETELY BADASS that movie was. That movie, or one by Frank Miller, redone w/ todays tech would be pretty good.

robocop 1 & 2 were indeed classics. 3 was just too dumb except for the jet pack. the first robocop had an orgin, it's when murphy was shot to death by Clarence and his henchmen. why retell something that has already happened?

batman88 - 5/14/2010, 11:51 AM
I loved watching robocop as a young child. the first one still holds up to day. and with detroit the way it is in real life we might need one for real. they need to play more on the side of a man who died in service but instead of going to heaven and seeing his wife and kid, he's forced to stay alive as a zombie slave with no conection to the world. a sad story of what it means to be human. and a lot of blood and gore i want this movie to make you say holy sh!t I feel so bad for this guy:( but you cheer for him when he kicks some but. he should look diffrent from the old style, more over the top. think Hal 5 assist with a zombie in it.
