Jose Padilha Having "The Worst Experience" On The ROBOCOP Reboot!

Padilha says 9/10 of his ideas are being rejected by studio brass. Says filming the sci-fi reboot is literally 'hell'. Are we headed for another watered-down reboot?

The director of "360" Fernando Meirelles gave several interviews about how to produce a movie in USA and also spoke about the problems that his friend Jose Padilha is having with his first big international project - RoboCop.
Here is what he said:

"Recently I talked to José Padilha by phone. He will begin filming Robocop. He is saying that it is the worst experience. For every 10 ideas he has, 9 are cut. Whatever he wants, he has to fight. 'This is hell here, "he told me. 'The film will be good, but I never suffered so much and do not want to do it again.' He is bitter, but he is a fighter "

The relations between a director and the studio are very important. Very often such problems causes the movie to fail big. And let's face it - this movie has a chance to be something different only if they give Jose the freedom to do what he knows best. Hopefully we don't get another Total Recall-esque remake.

If he says the movie will be good, then it'll be good. Nothing groundbreaking. Still I have faith in Jose and with all the negativeness towards this movie I hope finally the studio will understand that they have to give him all the freedom he wants.

this the problem with film studio they never let a director to be creative when the director is good.

i bet he is push for the movie to be a solid R-Rated movie but the studio pushing for a PG-13 lol

I've got to imagine that when Padilha relayed his issues to his friend during a private phone conversation, he didn't expect it to be talked about during an interview.

I wonder who will write the music. It would be great if they use some of the themes from the old soundtrack. As they did with Superman Returns.

It sounds like the same issues the Masters of the Universe director had, and if you seen that movie that made for a horrible adaptation. Give the directors more freedom to direct the direction of the films. But, Robocop, REALLY?? It's gonna have to have a damn good trailer for me to pay out my money to see it. I didn't even get to see TASM cause I was broke.

this trend of remaking classics gotta STOP. NOW...

i mean i can dig if they wanna remake the obscure ones, like I Spit on Your Grave, or Last House on the Left, The Crazies..even Cape Fear (cuz, despite the talents involved in the original..it WAS really outdated for today's audience).

but, now, they're doing Total Recall, RoboCop and soon Starship Troopers (curious to see all these originals were done by Paul Verhoeven..what does today's hollywood have against that dutch guy anyway..??), then we had Halloween, Carrie..etc. certified classics that do NOT need to be RE-told. Heck, just imagine if they decide to do remakes of Gone with the Wind, The Godfather, or Citizen Kane...??!! the atrocity.

Hoping for the best. Today´s Movie industry makes me sick.
I remember when I, Robot came out. Alex Proyas said that he will never work with Fox again which wanted the movie to be watered down. Proyas original movie would have been alot darker and violent and probably more meaningful.

Hasn't MGM learnt that with Robo2 and particularly Robo3 that when they start to call the shots too much they get a less impressive movie and less impressed fans and a decreasing $ return.

We wouldn't get a Robocop reboot happening without Verhoeven's wackiness.

If Padilha gets his freedom, there will be more impressed fans and more $!
