Robocop, it's nice to be surprised when you go to see a movie with low expectations and it turns out really good. It pays nice homage to the original but only a little, other than that it is its own movie. Yes you can pick holes in it but there's a lot to fit into just over 2 hours. Murphy is likable and the supporting cast are all good too. If you liked the original, you will probably still like this one. It has less comedy elements than the original and a lot more time is spent on Murphy's back story. Will I watch it again, yes, for sure. As I said, I expected this one to shit on one of my favourite movies from the 80's but instead it did it justice. Go see it. :D

@Repoman, fair point. I liked that they spent time developing Murphy. Unfortunately that meant he override his directives very quickly and the baddies went down easily. But over all I thought it was quite fun. I was really against this remake but I was pleasantly surprised by it.

Had no intentions of seeing this, but its rare that any new film comes out on one of my shitty, no weekend, off days. This will give me something to do and my expectation are in the right place; hella low.

DREDD looked generic and awful. Rented it on REDBOX and found it to be surprisingly entertaining. Not good enough for me to care whether or not a sequel is made, but I'd watch it.

Just came back from seeing this on an IMAX screening and it was better than I thought it would be. Its not as good as the original, but still decent.

Had this been an original film i.e. no 80's version, I think I'd have liked it a lot more, however you can't help but compare with the original which doesn't do it any favours due to its PG rating.

I just come back from seeing it (in uk) and I really like it,yeah they spent a bit to much time with the back story, well not the back story but the build up to him getting on the street,I dont mind that hes not so attached to lewis like he was with his partner in the original, but only because they focus more on his relationship with his family, which the original didnt, the build up to what you think will be the main bad guy is kinda shot down and then your thinking well now hes solved that what now, then it kinda follows the originals ending, good action, love the silver suit more tbh, looked more robotic, good choice to play alex and I hope theres a sequel with a more over all bad guy thats through the whole movie, but yeah bout it

There's no point doing a remake if its going to be the same movie shot-for-shot, as the original and since this is not an adaptation from a book or comic, it has no business trying to mimic the style of Paul Vehoeven's original. That's basically what most of the reviews are moaning about instead of judging the movie on its own merit.

Thankfully this is a very good retelling of the original in its own style that's a lot more evenly paced, character driven and political production while still having some well delivered humor and good (not overly spectacular) action scenes. While the original is a masterpiece of gung-ho satire and gore, this is much more grounded film with some excellent performances form born again Michael Keaton and the ever reliable Gary Oldman. The original was inspired by the Judge Dredd comics and this is another prominent feature of this version, especially on the impressive gun-play while on the bike sequences. Even Sam Jackson's satirical sequences shine while punctuating the movie each major change of events and some genuine laugh out loud moments. The well charted progression of main character ends with a baton to be picked up by the next film in the franchise.

Makes a change from the spectacle obsessed regular Hollywood flicks, its actually a very decent scifi tale designed to spearhead a franchise unlike the original that was an outstanding budget flick that spawned inferior make-it-up-as-you-go sequels that failed to mimic its style successfully instead of finding their own strengths. No way as entertaining as the original because its not designed to be an adult satire but that does not mean it fails to deliver a good movie, which it does. 7/10

Ceejay, I totally agree with what you said on the reviews out there moaning about the so-called "pointlessness" of remakes. It's a futile argument as these people have their minds made up before even watching the movie!

So far, I've only come across a handful of reviews that judged the 2014 Robocop on its own merits. This is one of the best I've read online and sums up exactly how I feel about the remake and remakes in general. It's on a filmsite called Electroshadow, in fact those guys write pretty good reviews most of the time. I occasionally disagree with how they see a movie but they always back up their talk with reason. Check out the Robocop review here: http://electroshadow.com/rage-against-the-machine/

I have a feeling this movie won't do very well at the US box office though. International might save it.

One thing for sure, this reboot will be a million times better than Robocop 2, 3, The Series, Prime Directive, The Animated Series, and Alpha Commando.

@GuardianAngel 'The Dark Knight' is the best Batman movie ever made, transcending every other superhero movie that has come before and, for now, after it. 'The Avengers' was complete shit.
I hath spoken.

People, as seen in just this comments section and in general, were going to hate this movie no matter what. It didn't matter if it was good, they would bash it continuously because it's touching something from their "sacred" childhood. Robocop is one of the biggest byproduct of the 80's, a glorified action film that because most saw it here at a young age is considered holy and should never be tampered with. It's Hollywood, nothing is sacred because it shouldn't be sacred. This is the problem with nostalgia with movies, we only accept our idea, our version of a character or a franchise as the only version. Our version being the one we grew up with. And damn all those who want to do a new version or "reboot" the series, how dare they try to PG-13 this film that had over the top gore for no [frick]ing reason! How dare the studio, a money-making corporation, try to make more money!
Meh, I'm done needlessly ranting. I need a drink, happy Friday!

I thought it was really good. Not the best, but it does what it does really well. 7.8 from me!

Anyway, he only uses a stun-gun on patrol. Did everybody miss the awesome fight scene in the warehouse, in the freaking dark? He was using a 50 calibre weapon.

Watched it last night & thought it was ok but needed to be more like Dredd in atmosphere & tone, it was alright tho, wasn't expecting it to blow me away with a rating of 12a

It's neither the worst or the best. The Lego film being released around the same time as Robocop and will crush the film. Although the reboot is way better than Robocop 2 and way way way better than 3.

Good to see some people here with an open mind, and JamesMan, your DEAD ON. Listen to that man. Everyone is being positively surprised by this reboot, and I'm glad for it, it's what's best for the characters t the moment. Otherwise, robocop is dead and buried and will never live on as Batman has for 75+ years. Robocop deserves a 75+ year legacy of different interpretation long after we are gone!

@TPerryoo7, well said. I was dead against this reboot and after watching, I really enjoyed it. I had to give it a chance and will do so with future reboots. Also looking forward to a sequel.

My favorite scene in the original movie is when RoboCop shoots this mugger in the penis when he's trying to rob some lady. He shoots through her dress to get to him.
