Here's an interesting video that takes you behind-the-scenes of Legacy Effects (formerly known as Stan Winston Studios) as they help construct the suits for Jose Padilha's RoboCop reboot.

In RoboCop, the year is 2028 and multinational conglomerate OmniCorp is at the center of robot technology. Their drones are winning American wars around the globe and now they want to bring this technology to the home front. Alex Murphy (Kinnaman) is a loving husband, father and good cop doing his best to stem the tide of crime and corruption in Detroit. After he is critically injured in the line of duty, OmniCorp utilizes their remarkable science of robotics to save Alex's life. He returns to the streets of his beloved city with amazing new abilities, but with issues a regular man has never had to face before.

RoboCop will be directed by Jose Padilha and star Joel Kinnaman (The Killing) in the lead role of Alex Murphy/Robocop. The film also stars: Gary Oldman, Samuel L. Jackson, Michael Kenneth Williams, Jennifer Ehle, Jay Baruchel and Abbie Cornish. The remake will be in theaters February 12th, 2014

The suit was sleek, way improved from the original movie which was like some clunky design that was more suited for tech from the 70's rather than the 1980's. It's a mechanical body, doesn't need to be bulked up to insane size or walk like a wind-up toy.

Wad really surprised with this, though about 30 minutes more would have made it much better.

I'm not sure if the original suit was better or if it was just the choreography that made it look better. The new movie is pretty decent but often it doesn't create the illusion successfully and looks like a suit. It might be because of the human hand. I got, after seeing it, why they left the hand story wise.

The silver suit looked really freaking cool. Honestly If they do make a sequel they need to stick to it. The silver was just better then all black.

Also I really think Iron Man can have a full on suit now. I know in the first film they had one. But since then it's always been in parts.

As to the old suit looking better? I though it looked like a suit. What helped I guess was that the actor moved very robotic but robotics are far more organic today and will be more so tomorrow.

And also it was bulky so that fed back into it all.

Also this films did play more with the idea that he was a man in a suit but then the reveal about how much man was left?

I LIKED THE NEW SUIT...REBOOT WAS COOL BUT I MISS SEEING THE ROBOTIC MOVEMENTS FROM WELLER'S PERFORMANCE FROM THE ORIGINAL...






WITH THE OLD ONE I FELT=ITS A MACHINE WITH REMANANTS OF HUMAN..THE NEW ONE AS COOL AT IT IS IN THE END HONESTLY JUST COMES ACROSS AS A GUY IN A SUIT. THE MOVEMENTS WELLER ACTED OUT IN THAT OLD SUIT SOLD IT TO ME.

Wellers performance was for people who actually think robots in the future will still not be advanced enough to mimic actual fluid human mobility. Those of us who knew better just rolled our eyes at his over the top, rigid performance. Hell even C3PO moved more convincingly as an advanced robot.

We already have robots capable of mimicking human movement, this new Robocop film does not need to cater for those who are stuck in the past with their tech knowledge. Nor does it feel the need to spray his suit with tacky blue and silver just to convince people its metal. All the crazy poses and looking the opposite way while shooting were just corny.

The new film is way more sensible scifi for those who actually like scfi over gung-ho action and gore. The old film is the kind of popcorn flick you have a bunch of mates around to watch in the background for the spectacle and laughs while you drink and snack.

Reboot kinda sucked really bad - no wonder it tanked, still most of us knew that as soon as it was green lit.

Can't beat the classic yo! ;P



Saying that it was a shame it flopped, but then again maybe Hollywood will bring back original ROBO like their doing with CONAN and EVIL DEAD!

Really liked this reboot. It was exactly what needed to happen. Enough of the source material to be recognizable but different enough to be it's own thing. I loved that they had an homage to the original suit. I also liked that he was still robotic, but was less clunky. His head movements and his gun fighting was definitely more robotic, but when in full on action it was fluid

ROBOTS MOVE HUMAN NOW BUT EVEN THE LATEST IN TECH ROBOTS HAVE SOME MOTIONS THAT YOU CAN TELL THEM APART FROM HUMAN I JUST WISH THE NEW ROBOCOP SHOWED ALLITTLE OF THAT..MOVED MACHINE LIKE.

How can you say "creativity" with a straight face? This was a REBOOT. Creativity went out the window as soon as they decided to use an already existing character/story just with a different tone and told in a different way. Don't know what they were trying to achieve with this nonsense. Flopped financially and critically.
