FARGO Showrunner Noah Hawley Shares Another Update On His Postponed STAR TREK Film

Legion showrunner Noah Hawley has shared another update on his planned Star Trek film, confirming that the project - which has been put on hold by Paramount - "doesn't appear to be in my immediate future."

Fargo showrunner Noah Hawley blew Marvel Comics fans away with Legion, so it's easy enough to see why there was so much excitement when Paramount Pictures hired him to direct a Star Trek film.

While the franchise is finding a huge amount of success on television, the studio made the decision to go back to the drawing board with its big screen plans, putting each potential project on hold (including a Star Trek 4 which was expected to star Chris Pine and Chris Hemsworth).

It's also been reported that Hawley's Star Trek was going to revolve around a pandemic storyline, so it's no wonder Paramount Pictures aren't sure whether to move forward with his vision quite yet. The filmmaker, meanwhile, doesn't currently believe the film is "in my immediate future."

"I think when [new Paramount Pictures president Emma Watts] came in, she took a look at the franchise and wanted to go in a different direction with it," Hawley tells Deadline. "But you know, life is long, we were very close to production but in this business that doesn’t mean much. You got to get out of the gate to be in the race if you know what I mean."

This isn't the first blockbuster Hawley has lost due to a change in leadership, because he was also set to write and direct a Doctor Doom feature before Fox was acquired by Disney.

I want to see Navid Negahban on Noah Hawley's Star Trek. He was great playing Shadow King and I want to see him in the Trekkie franchise.

Between Tarantino's, Hemswort/Pine's and Hawley's Star Trek movies, I don't know which I wanted to see most. Too bad Hawley also didn't get to do Doctor Doom.

Damn, his and Tarantino's were the two I was hoping for the most. This sucks. I'd love Trek to be pit into hands of people who actually like it. Unlike Alex Klutzman. Look at Star Trek Beyond, that was far and away the best of the new trilogy because Simon Pegg and the other writer were Trekkies. It felt like a lost episode

Tarantino’s trek was a fantasy that was never going to happen.

@KingLeonidas - True, but in a way, I'm glad. It was never a realistic fit. QT always falls back on extreme violence, old-tho-upbeat music tracks, street-slang and heavy racial epithets. But maybe if it was set in the 1970's with Samuel L. Jackson as ship's captain ... kicking space hippy butt.

Maybe the reboot case will be back in around ten years as an "older" crew a la Star Trek The Motion Picture and Wrath of Khan. I get a kick out of all of the comments about Kirk being so old in Wrath of Khan when he was probably around the right age to be a Captain in Star Fleet by that time.

@RolandD - haha damm those suits look amazing. I do have an affinity for the TMP suits, tho. With some tweaking, they could've been great but come off as bland
