It's no secret that Nicolas Cage is a Trekkie. The Academy Award-winner admitted as much last year when he revealed he preferred Star Trek over Star Wars.

Although Cage has starred in several memorable projects in some very iconic roles, he's never appeared in a Star Trek show or movie. But it's something he acknowledges that he wants to do.

And it sounds like it's something that could come to fruition — or at least something that has been talked about. Speaking to Trek Movie at the Saturn Awards earlier this month, Cage revealed there were discussions with Paramount about him appearing in a Star Trek movie following a 2023 Yahoo interview in which he praised Chris Pine's portrayal of Captain Kirk in J.J. Abrams' Star Trek movies.

“Well, I’ve been hearing some talk about it, but nothing real… Since [the 2023 interview] there was a few comments from Paramount, but who knows?”

Although it doesn't sound like anything is in serious discussions right now, Cage did reveal the type of role he'd want. "I'd want to be on the bridge," the actor said. "I want to be on the Enterprise."

There hasn't been a theatrical Star Trek movie since 2016's Star Trek Beyond, but Paramount Pictures currently has two potential new projects in the works. Director Toby Haynes and writer Seth Grahame-Smith are reportedly developing an "origin story" set decades before J.J. Abrams' 2009 Stark Trek movie that "expands on the Star Trek universe." Abrams is also reportedly developing one final Star Trek movie that will serve as "the final chapter" with Chris Pine's Kirk.

Nicolas Cage has been on a bit of a hot streak lately. He most recently won Best Supporting Actor in a Film at the Saturn Awards for his portrayal of Count Dracula in Chris McCkay's horror-comedy Renfield.

From his early '90s hits like The Rock, Con Air and Face/Off to his more recent roles in Mandy, Pig, and The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, Cage has proven to have a wide acting range.

Who knows, perhaps if the stars align, Cage will get his dream of starring in a Star Trek movie on the bridge of the Enterprise. After all, he did finally get to reprise his role as Clark Kent/Superman in 2023's The Flash, even though the cameo left a lot to be desired.

Tarantino's R-Rated Star Trek, Shakman's Hemsworth/Pine movie, and now this? So many good ideas that I'll probably never get to see come to fruition unfortunately.
