Daisy Ridley Says Rey Will Be A Very Different Teacher Compared To Luke Skywalker In STAR WARS: NEW JEDI ORDER

Daisy Ridley has shared her thoughts on how Rey will differ as a Jedi Master compared to her old mentor, Luke Skywalker, and shares an update on when she believes New Jedi Order will arrive in theaters...

With so many Star Wars movies and TV shows failing to materialise in recent years ('member Rogue Squadron?), fans remain hopeful that the big screen project revolving around Daisy Ridley's Rey - first announced during last April's Star Wars Celebration - will eventually become a reality.

Essentially "Episode X" (or, at the very least, an epilogue to The Rise of Skywalker), the movie is set to take place 15 years after the events of the Skywalker Saga concluded. Rey, now a fully-fledged Jedi Master, will attempt to lead the Jedi into a new age, only for a mysterious dark force to rise in a bid to combat her.

Ms. Marvel director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy remains attached to helm the project which, based on our last update, has been penned by Steven Knight. Originally, Damon Lindelof (Watchmen) was attached to write the screenplay and did so before parting ways with Lucasfilm over creative differences.

Talking to Den of Geek (via SFFGazette.com), Ridley was asked if Rey's approach to training the next generation of Jedi will differ from Luke Skywalker's. To that, she simply replied, "I would say, from what I understand, yes. Short answer."

The Mandalorian has shown Luke starting a training academy for Jedi, with The Last Jedi revealing that it all fell apart when he was tempted into killing Ben Solo before he could become Kylo Ren. With that in mind, Rey heading down a slightly different route honestly isn't that surprising!

"It’s very strange," Ridley later told the site of her return to Star Wars. "I’ve gone off and done lots of different sorts of films. I feel like I’ve learned a lot and grown a lot I would hope as an actor. I think it will feel like baby steps again, like sort of starting at the beginning. But yes, I’m very excited!"

In a separate conversation with CBR, the actress was asked when she thinks we could see this Star Wars movie in theaters and revealed, "I don't know when we'll see her again, but, probably 2026. Hopefully."

If that's correct, it means this New Jedi Order project will hit the big screen the same year as The Mandalorian & Grogu!

Earlier this year, Ridley revealed what it was like to see the sequel trilogy receive such a mixed response from Star Wars fans. "Was I surprised? Uh, I think it's still upsetting because you don't want people to feel like you've not served the thing that they're a fan of," she admitted.

"Rian's one was so divisive. It really felt like the first one...everyone was responsive in a similar way. And then Rian's one was super divisive and the last one was super divisive. It didn't change how I felt about it."

With any luck, this next effort will do justice to Ridley and Rey. As always, though, stay tuned for updates as we have them.

Does that mean they are going to have some writers that can actually write a proper character this time!???!??

He wasn't really a teacher in the sequels, but good to know that they'll be inspired by something that doesn't really exist

@Rastarapha - omg was just about to say the same thing! I second this.

Knowing that the force is a balance and neither the light or dark can outweigh each other, why would Rey bother making a new sect of Jedi knowing the dark side will simply rise up to bring balance. Bit of a perpetual cycle isn’t it.

@captain8ritain - The balance is the destruction of the sith.

@captain8ritain - that's actually quite an interesting notion to explore.

Always thought that was the reason why Rey suddenly was so powerful, as the Force just picked her to balance it out against Ben's power. Maybe now that Ben is dead, she suddenly lost her power too and that leads to her being a different teacher than Luke.

@dagenspear - it’s not very balanced if light outweighs dark though, balance is power in equal measure

@captain8ritain - A definition of balance is a verb:

keep or put (something) in a steady position

@dagenspear - that doesn't suggest balance...

@captain8ritain - maintaining a status quo I guess. I thought they were finally gonna move past the Jedi and Sith and explore something more in the middle but god forbid they do anything new or different even after the prequels and TLJ established the failing of the Jedi and a need for balance.

@Slotherin - A definition of balance is, in part:

keep or put (something) in a steady position

No real Star Wars Fan wants a Rey movie.

After watching Episode 8 & 9 i said i'll never watch a Star Wars movie again.

I have to thank Jon Favreau that i liked the Mandalorian so much that i will watch the "The Mandalorian & Grogu" movie in a theatre.
But i sure as hell won't watch another Kathleen Kennedy mess.

@MarvelZombie616 - I’m not against the character of Rey or Ridley as an actress for that matter.
In fact I like the sequels. I got my money’s worth.
I liked Rey as a character. The issues I have with the sequels do not include the character or her performance. I also love the Last Jedi, it’s my second favourite Star Wars film after Empire.
I’m open minded to the future I just hope that Disney can make better Star Wars movies that are inspired but also innovative, nuanced, cohesive and meaningful in storytelling. The sequels are flawed, there are issues but I’m not complaining I actually enjoyed them however there’s certainly more room for improvement.

@MarvelZombie616 - Absolutely fair enough if you don't want a Rey movie. But I've lived and breathed for Star Wars for 3 decades and I want one.

@MarvelZombie616 - Exactly! I was done with the films after the debacle of The Force Awakens (still haven't seen 8 & 9). I enjoyed the Mandolorian. Boba Fett was okay, but Obi Wan was a total joke.
"Set on Tatooine, old Ben Kenobi has to save ... LEIA?!"
You know they thought we expected tons of time with Luke, but nope!
Subverting expectations and making opposites the new stereotype is all you get, fanboys!

I can only presume Rey won't randomly become a nutcase who'll seek to murder her nephew/student for thought crimes only to realize at the last minute that just maybe that might be insane. It'd be preposterous if a character did something like that.
Slotherin
Slotherin - 3/12/2024, 10:55 AM
@dagenspear - it was established that Snoke was messing with things for a while and by extension Palpatine.
The dark side of the Force preys on fear... Is it really such a stretch that Luke would fear one of his disciples becoming like his father? Especially his nephew.

Plus Luke struggled with balance in the original trilogy especially 5 and 6.
dagenspear
dagenspear - 3/12/2024, 2:04 PM
@Slotherin - Fear? Maybe not, in theory. Becoming a homicidal nutcase at your nephew who'd done nothing yet apparently is another. You're argument seems to be that Luke lashed out at Vader in ROTJ, so him seeking to murder his nephew makes sense, only for him to realize before he murders him that ya know maybe it's not a good idea. No, it's insane for anyone to do that to me and it's an utter betrayal of his sister and friend. It doesn't help matters that Luke spends the whole movie whining like a baby boy, blaming the jedi for his problems and saying they need to end, when no jedi in any of the movies ever sought to murder their student in their sleep, so they aren't the problem.

On top of that then becoming a cowardly self pitying man child who cares about nothing else enough but his own self pity, and is basically making up how he was attacked at random by Kylo and how the jedi are the problem, basically blaming everyone else for his own mistakes, really the nail in the coffin for this character in the movie. The movie then expects me to forget about that while Luke does what he should've been doing 2 hours ago (and was already willing to do an hour into his first movie) and never admits to anyone what he did. Only Rey knows and she gets told by Kylo, he only admits after she confronts him about what a garbage person he is.
Slotherin
Slotherin - 3/14/2024, 6:10 PM
@dagenspear - that's a nice deconstruction of an argument I didn't even make.
dagenspear
dagenspear - 3/14/2024, 6:20 PM
@Slotherin - You said Luke struggled with it in 5 & 6. I basically said I think that it's dumb that that leads him there, I don't regard the idea of the dark side just making someone do bad things like that. I think that also makes Luke's entire moaning whining session pointless (it already is, but in a different way) it's basically saying it wasn't his fault, it was the dark side, so this has little meaning.

Then I pointed out the further issues I had with it.
Origame

In other words, she'll actually be successful.

Again, this is the problem with rey. She doesn't earn anything and is instead just given sh!t other characters achieved. She's a master of the force despite no training, she killed Palpatine despite anakin killing him well before she was even born, and now she's restarting the jedi order even though that was what the original trilogy was building towards with Luke.
dagenspear
dagenspear - 3/11/2024, 5:42 AM
@Origame - Considering the only thing we have that Luke was developed to fail at was randomly be a homicidal lunatic against his psycho nephew who massacred everyone and then Luke randomly decided nothing else mattered but his own self pity, so that's a pretty easy bar to clear for most people, especially if they're not written nonsensically.
Slotherin
Slotherin - 3/12/2024, 10:56 AM

I just read that this abomination, officially called "Star Wars: New Jedi Order" is indeed to be the next Star Wars movie with a release date: may 22nd 2026.

However "The Mandalorian & Grogu" is already in pre-production and shooting is supposed to start in june 2024.

There is also the rumor of a Star Wars movie coming out in december of 2026.

I have no doubt that the Jon Favreau movie will be a great success.
I am not so sure about the other movie.

Honest question: what was the issue with Luke contemplating on killing Kylo in his sleep? Was it that out of character? Luke was so devoted to keeping the Jedi alive and not going through another Vader again, he had a moment of weakness he immediately regretted.
