Darth Maul Will Be Resurrected For The Clone Wars!

Despite being as dead as dead can be at the end of The Phantom Menace, the fan fave Sith Lord will return to George Lucas' Star Wars Universe in the animated Clone Wars series..

Remember that awesome trailer for The Phantom Menace? Remember that cool looking new bad guy? Remember the excitement of going to see the movie for the first time only to have him say his 3 lines, spin his double sided light saber and be cut in half by Ewan McGergor? The movie was rife with disappointments but one of the biggest had to be the treatment of Darth Maul, who was played with great ferocity by martial artist Ray Park. Well now as unlikely as a man cut in two coming back to life is (this is Star Wars after all) we will see Mr Maul again.

Click on the image below to see a video teaser for his return exclusive to EW..

Here is an excerpt from their report..

“I found it funny in The Phantom Menace when Darth Maul got cut in half,” Clone Wars supervising director Dave Filoni says. “I thought George was definitively saying to the fans, ‘There’s no way this character is coming back. This is not a Boba Fett/Sarlacc Pit situation where, because of fan love, Boba gets out of that thing any number of ways.’ Fast-forward ten-years, and I’m the one to bring Maul back.”

I must admit to being curious to see how they go about this and I was a big fan of the character, all 6 minutes of him. I may just start watching this show.

I still think Ep 1-3 would've been better if Maul was the villian through out those movies and not killing him off.

nahh, just put a band-aid around him, that should keep his upper body attached to his lower body :)

REALLY THIS IS STILL GOING ON >:O. How long ago was the clone wars movie? SPOILER ALERT things get worse for the Jedi. CN has really let themselves go with this series. I loved the 2D anime inspired shorts but theses taint the legacy of those cartoons

I WONDER HOW THE DARTH MAUL STORY WILL GO IN CLONE WARS..IT'S GOTTA BE BEFORE THIS SO THEY MAY EXPLAIN HOW HE GOT OUT OF THE PIT WITH ONLY HALF A BODY...

Yaaaaaaaaaay! A one dimensional character from a terrible movie who got about 10 minutes of screentime and fewer lines makes his triumphant return 6 months from now! Woohoo! Can't wait!

I really don't think plausibility comes into it in this universe..I mean he was a master of the force right? They can have any number of explanations as to how he managed to survive. What I really wanna know is what magic was used to make the movie so [frick]ing rubbish.

Maybe they can retroactively kill Jar Jar and say it's been an annoying shapeshifting spy of Palpatine from the beginning.

Thought Episode 1 was good, not sure why people make such a big fuss about it. Maul was awesome, didn't have to speak much, that made him even more menacing (haha see what I did there), and I loved his combat style.

@ksommer yeah, it would've been cool to have him around for more than only 1 movie. Would have rather had him than Dooku.

That makes no sense. >< His body burned up when he fell down the pit.

...uuuhhmmmm...

a...CLONE, perhaps?
i mean, it's a show, about an army. of clones. a clone army.
i can't think cloning maul would be the biggest leap in the series.

there was a novel and a graphic novel adaptation called "dark empire" where palpatine had been cloned and his "consciousness" was projected into a younger healthy body.

of course, if he is only a torso and has no lower half ( read: no pee-pee ) then that will certainly make him an angry sith.

GREAT SHOW!! First Qui-Gon, then Chewbacca, now Maul! This show is pretty cool at bringing in loved characters. I can't wait to see how they play this.
There was a short story in a comic anthology that had a non-canon story where Maul returned as a cyborg hunting down Obi-Wan.
Jolt17
Jolt17 - 10/12/2011, 6:54 AM
Well, he's back again anyway in the Empire era...

Though that's a doppelganger, but still, lol. And anyway I also remember that one GUNSMITH gave up there, but I actually forget if it's a canon or not...well, he battled Obi-Wan again, too.

Whatever it is, and whatever this one is (I actually hope it's merely an adaptation of that cyborg Maul), I think it should be enough already - let him stay dead!
Jolt17
Jolt17 - 10/12/2011, 6:56 AM
Oh - thanks Dedpool for confirming that it was non-canon...though now I'm not sure what to say on this!

in the comics they revealed he wasn't dead a long time back.

As as I love Maul I think this is stupid. The whole point of creating Savage Oppress as Mauls brother was for the fact that Maul is DEAD and couldnt bring him back. They really need to stop rehashing this shit and bringing people back from the dead.

Let me guess, next we'll find out that Dooku survived being decapitated and is living as a disembodied brain in a jar on Palpatine's desk.

Hmm...well, I will definitely be interested to see how they bring him back. I have an infinite amount of trust in this show, they haven't steered me wrong yet, and even though this sounds a little far-fetched, I'm still trusting that they will deliver another great like they always have. But just for the record, even though Darth Maul is definitely the best Sith from the movies (after Vader, of course) the scene where Kenobi killed (maybe not) him in Episode I was amazing. Every single time I watch that scene (I've seen the movie many times) I find myself in suspense that Kenobi may not be able to make it out of the pit and kill Maul. In case you can't tell, Kenobi is my all-time favorite Star Wars character. :D

Maul returns and does not know his place. He is no longer a Sith because Dooku has taken his place as Palpatine's apprentice

hmm interesting.. i thought he survived according to the books...

got those legs like @gunsmith showed in the pic...

kinda thought that was common star wars knowledge that he didnt die.. guess not..

ndwwrestler2 - 10/12/2011, 9:13 AM
Holy... A guy can't just stay dead, can he? Well, I honestly though he shouldn't have died in the first movie anyway, just because he was too cool of a character to just have in one freaking Star Wars movie.

One of my favorite villains of all time, he needed more time in Phantom Menace. Glad he's being resurrected (as impossible as it sounds).
