Ewoks Given CGI Eyelids In Star Wars: Return Of The Jedi...Seriously!

Personally, I have no problem with the changes that George Lucas is making to the upcoming blu-ray release of all six Star Wars movies. While they may seem silly or unnecessary to some, no one is forcing us to go out and buy these new additions, and the other versions are still readily available on DVD. So far, we've seen the inclusion of a CGI Yoda in The Phantom Menace and Darth Vader crying "Nooo!" in the final moments of Return of the Jedi. The latter now has another addition...

That's right, those glassy eyed little creeps now blink! A minor alteration which surely serves to improve the movie, right? Well, I probably wouldn't have noticed, but it's in there regardless. Surely this doesn't bother anyone, right? Right?! Feel free to share your thoughts on the latest addition to the Star Wars movies in the usual place, and thanks to Zap2it for the footage above.

Wow! Lucas has surely outdone himself this time. Oh well, I'm still gonna purchase the blu-ray set anyway.

I'm not too mad about these changes, but I am mad that they are treating it like these tiny changes are a big enough deal for a selling point. I think I will just stick with my untouched, untainted copies of the original trilogy

Why doesn't Lucas just replace all of the ewoks with CG? The ewoks are clearly people in silly-looking costumes.

I don't mind this or cgi Yoda, but that "NOOOOOOOO!" he added to episode 6 annoys me.

They actually replaced Lando's mustache too. It has a more supple curve to it. The Beard thinks it looks more futuristic, less 70's porn star.

I like this change. That unblinking stare is scary! Makes them look more costumey/puppety without the blink. Great change uncle George!

CGI Yoda - Yes.
Blinking Ewoks - Odd thing to get annoyed with, Lucas, but...yes. Looks good.
Ruining the defining Darth Vader moment of Return of the Jedi, and one of the most important throughout the saga (Not to mention a big slap in the face to the direction/music and camera work of that scene that made an expressionless mask emote) - ...F*ck you, Lucas.

Next change: Lucas will cgi Jar Jar creepin in the background of all the movies.

I'm fine with CGI Yoda (the puppet version in TPM kinda creeped me out) and blinking Ewoks are good, the NOOOOOOO isn't necessary in that ROTJ scene.

alekesam - 8/31/2011, 7:07 PM
titansupes- I have to agree with you there. There was sheer brilliiance in that scene because, as noted, you can't really see his face because of the mask. But because of the way they shot it combined with the music, you know exactly what he's feeling/thinking.

(Sigh) For the love of Christ. Just let it be George. It was made in 1983, people will understand that the fuzzy [frick]ers couldn't blink okay? How about you tweak the fact that they look like midgets in bad fur suits.
