Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige Confirms His STAR WARS Movie Is No Longer Happening With Blunt Answer

Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige has finally confirmed that his and Michael Waldron's upcoming Star Wars film is no longer happening, sharing a surprisingly blunt response when asked about the project.

With Lucasfilm seemingly unable to get a single Star Wars movie off the ground, plans for several different projects the studio supposedly had in the works started leaking out to the trades.

Among them was a movie from Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige, with the veteran producer enlisting Loki and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness writer Michael Waldron to pen the screenplay. There was a lot of excitement among fans given Feige's love of Star Wars, but despite Waldron expressing his excitement on multiple occasions, it's seemingly fallen by the wayside.

Talking at Star Wars Celebration in April, Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy was asked about the movie and claimed, "Nothing ever got developed...we never discussed an idea. It's not an abandoned project. It just never really happened."

It was initially announced by Alan Horn, the former Walt Disney Studios Chairman and Chief Creative Officer, and many believe Kennedy wasn't entirely on board with the Marvel Studios boss being given his own Star Wars movie. Why? Well, she may have seen him as a threat because rumours persist that he could be eyeing her job as Lucasfilm President.

Appearing at The Marvels premiere on Tuesday evening, Feige was asked (via SFFGazette.com) about his Star Wars movie and while his reaction was brief, it was also very telling.

What's up with the Star Wars movie? Is it happening?

Any Star Wars movie?

Yours.

No.

It's obvious something went wrong here and Feige doesn't seem entirely happy about it. We're guessing that, for whatever reason, Kennedy put the kibosh on his Star Wars plans and he's understandably disappointed not to be telling a story set in a Galaxy Far, Far Away.

Then again, Feige may well be too busy. It's no secret that the Marvel Cinematic Universe is currently facing its fair share of issues and he's spread incredibly thin overseeing movies and TV shows. Moving forward, we'd bet on Disney wanting him to focus on setting Marvel Studios back on the right track instead of developing a Hail Mary Star Wars movie that, hopefully, will restore the franchise to its former glory in theaters.

Waldron is also an issue. Rumour has it he's been dropped from Avengers: Secret Wars, so his overall deal with Disney may no longer hold the weight it once did.

Take a look at the full interview with Feige below.

Star Wars is already ruined. Stay at Marvel and continue ruining that.

Wasn't Michael Waldron also writing a Star Wars movie? Kinda assumed that was Feige's movie. Guess not then.

Anyway, I don't mind one less Star Wars movie. Kinda expect Waititi's and Levy's movies not coming through either.

Yea.. that would be a terrible look to also be producing that… He’s gotta get Marvel Studios back go it’s phase 3 glory. That said, I’ve enjoyed everything post Infinity saga except for Love and Thunder and Secret Invasion, but based on all the behind the scenes stuff we’ve heard, he’s gotta get his own yard in order.

If he takes over Lucasfilm his movie will get made.

IIRC, Iger pressured Lucasfilm and Marvel Studios to announce projects long before the were ready, so it tracks that Feige's film may not have gotten out there.

Also, am I the only one who's glad we haven't had any Star Wars movies in a while? Not because I dislike what we got - FFS, I'm a TRoS defender - but because I felt that making Star Wars annual was a grave mistake in the first place.
I'm glad Lucasfilm is taking their time to get their next film(s) right.
