Lucasfilm, one of the world’s leading film and entertainment companies, and Prime Focus, the global visual entertainment services company, are proud to announce their collaboration on the 3D conversion of Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace for theatrical release, heralding an exciting new era in Star Wars entertainment. Prime Focus was selected by Lucasfilm and Industrial Light & Magic (ILM) following an exhaustive testing process.

"It was incredibly important to me that we have the technology, the resources and the time to do this right," said Star Wars creator George Lucas. I’m very happy with the results I’ve been seeing on Episode I."


Star Wars: Episode 1 - The Phantom Menace is set to be released in 3D on February 10, 2012!

has to be said. the prequels were bad story telling at its best. it was a marketing ploy from day one. It was no heroes journey, even though the original was.

i love the original trilogy,but the prequels are a bit shit.

the lightsabre duels of each prequel movie are the best scenes.

I love both trilogies & can't w8 for the 3D releases. I agree the prequel wasn't as great as the original, but I refuse to accept that 1 character (Jar Jar), can take the blame for the entire trilogy the way her does. He didn't even hav that much to do in Clones & Revenge. Even in Phantom Menace he wasn't that irratable to me. The twins in Transformers 2 were much worse.

WarRocketAjax I'm done too. I help make this dude richer while he spits in my face. He begrudgingly releases "special" edition dvds with the un-butchered versions of the original trilogy on them and calls it "bonus material" even though the original versions are the core selling point for the dvds. He's been giving original fans the finger for a while. I'm giving it back.

I couldn't care less about this, personally. I really disliked Episodes 1 - 3. Who wants to see Jar Jar in 3-d? I stopped supporting Star Wars after Episode 2.

This reminds me of a couple of South Parks that have dealt with Lucas and his constant tweaking of his films to squeeze more money out of them.

I used to be the biggest SW fan and I got into filmmaking initially because of them and Indiana Jones. I didn't hate then prequels when they came out but they were not on par with the classics. over the years my enthusiasm has gone. I like Ep. 3 and watch clone wars with my son occasionally but the magic is gone. It went from space opera to soap opera with too many coincidences and rehashed plots.

I'll maybe see ROTS in 3D and I'll of course get the blu-ray but if not excited about it. Makes me sad.

Thank god for Thor, Cap and The Avengers! Please now make Silver Surfer so I can get my sci-fi on!

Maybe they can 3-D young Anikan out of the movie and 3-D Jar Jar so far off screen that he disappears. Can't wait to see the bonus material of George Lucas smoking cigars made of platinun, caviar and diamonds wrapped in gold leaf or the scene of him on the can wiping his ass with hundred dollar bills laughing maniacally on his R2-D2 toilet.

Hopefully they will do a little editing as well. Cut out the silly Gungan stuff and Jar Jar. Edit the bad acting by the child playing Anakin. Get rid of the fart jokes.

It’s so disappointing and bothersome to see Lucas milk these movies and take advantage of the loyalty of SW fans. Don’t get me wrong, I sure don’t begrudge anyone trying to make a dollar, it’s just that if he wants to have a movie in 3D so bad he should develop a new story and go out and make it.
From the moment I saw Star Wars for the first time at the theatre in the 70s I was hooked on anything SW, but I’m done with anything Lucas does now.

Lets all face it, the only reason stars the OT was nay good was because lucas was less involved after star wars.

Red letter media hits the nail on teh head with his reviews.

Give the franchise to Peter Jackson and reboot the prequels, we can pretend it was all a bad dream.

The prequels were teh biggest dissappointment in cinema history.

The worst thing about the prequels is the cast. The acting is terribly dry.

I'm down for as many interpretations they wanna make. 3D, virtual reality, cartoons, TV, whatever. If it sucks, don't watch it.

as much as i love episodes 4, 5 and 6 i still have a special likeness for episodes 1, 2 and 3. we can argue which is better or what not but at the end of the day i am a huge fan of all 6 and i will be first or close to first in line on midnight showings. Just as i will be at Disneyland when Star Tours 2 opens in 3D on June 3rd! boo yaaa [female dog]es!!!

@TurdFergunson I'll be there too. I just wish they made it a few days earlier, because the original open date was May 28th and now it's the 3rd which is my last day on my trip. I was hoping to ride it several times because of the various story possiblities but the line will be super crazy and I'll be lucky to go twice. I was there when the first Star Tours opened in 87 and it was like a 5 hour wait.
