STAR WARS: Rey May Appear In More Than Just "New Jedi Order" Movie; Daisy Ridley's Return Payday Revealed

It seems there may be plans in place for Rey "Skywalker" to feature in more than just Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy's "New Jedi Order" movie. We also have word on Daisy Ridley's return payday...

There have been conflicting reports about the status of Lucasfilm's planned "New Jedi Order" Star Wars movie, which will see Daisy Ridley reprise the role of Rey "Skywalker" following her lead role in the recent sequel trilogy.

Rumors have been doing the rounds online that the project may have been delayed indefinitely, but several different sites have reached out to Lucasfilm for clarification, and there doesn't seem to be any validity to these reports.

Insider Jeff Sneider has now weighed in via the latest edition of his newsletter, and he's shared some intriguing new details about Rey's return and Ridley's not-too-shabby payday.

Sneider believes that the untitled Rey movie will be the second big-screen release after The Mandalorian and Grogu, and will likely arrive in theatres around Christmas 2026. He reckons James Mangold’s "Dawn of the Jedi" film will follow in 2027, and Dave Filoni’s "New Republic"  (or, "Heir to the Empire" as it's now being referred to) movie could be as far away as 2028.

As for Ridley's fee, Sneider has heard that the actress will pocket a cool $12.5 million. This may not sound that high, especially when compared to the monumental amounts the top MCU stars make, for example, but keep in mind that Ridley's career hit a bit of a slump after The Rise of Skywalker, and $12M is said to be a lot more than her usual quote.

It also sounds like Ridley will appear in more than just one upcoming project, as Sneider has heard Rey could factor into Shawn Levy's mysterious Star Wars movie, which he may begin working on as soon as he's done with Deadpool 3.

However, on The Hot Mic, Sneider noted that this film could be set in a different timeline with an older take on Rey. As you may recall, previous rumors claimed that the original plan was to cast Helen Mirren (or someone of that status) in the role before Ridley agreed to sign on.

Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy will direct the "New Jedi Order" film, which will be set a whole fifteen years after the events of The Rise of Skywalker. Plot details are still mostly under wraps, but we do know that Rey will be a "powerful Jedi master" running her own training academy when we catch up with her.

Last year, Lucasfilm's Kathleen Kennedy revealed that work on this movie is further along than we realized.

"We’ve been working on that film for a few years and all of that feeds into our overall storytelling. So we’ve just got to a point now where we’ve got a wonderful writer in Steven Knight, and we’re probably going to see a script in the next month and a half that we’ve been working on for quite a while. So we’re getting close."

Of course, this was prior to the Hollywood strikes, which no doubt had at least some impact on the movie's development.

It sounds like a lot of things are still very much up in the air when it comes to Lucasfilm's return to the galaxy far, far away on the big screen, but we should have some official updates fairly soon.

Cool. 😜

MarkCassidy - 1/19/2024, 8:08 AM
@DevilsDreams - you could indeed, it would not mean you are... But if you were a character in a movie, and in that movie you became the king of England at the end - even if a bunch of people hated the story choice - if I was writing an article about you returning in another movie, I would refer to you as the king of England.

@MarkCassidy - Ah who knows... if Rey is written well as a character in the new films, that may redeem her, if they continue the way they have, then there will be a lot of moaning.
Feralwookiee
Feralwookiee - 1/19/2024, 8:22 AM
@DevilsDreams - I mean, you have to look at the source and the agenda they help to push and certianly pander to.

They obviously had NO plan at all for these movies or the character of Rey, so they slapped on a terribly contrived ending where she claims to IDENTIFY as a Skywalker.

Even though this is 100% biologically inaccurate and false, we're supposed to accept this fabrication because her feelings are supposed to supersede facts.
Whether it was intentional or not, this can be seen as an allusion to the current state of "identity politics" that has been forced on people in the Western world currently.

I can claim to IDENTIFY as labrador retriever, but even if people humor me in my delusion, it will never be true.

They should just move totally away from the character of Rey Palpatine and truly go an entirely new direction, but we all know Disney is a void of creativity at this point, and you're only gonna get more of the same.

Obviously they are not but some go along with it, like it's OK.

Origame
Origame - 1/19/2024, 8:45 AM
@ObserverIO - ...this wasn't adoption though.

Rey was already basically fully grown by the start of the sequel trilogy. And she only took the name at the end of the trilogy when all members of the skywalker family were dead and couldn't even approve of her taking the name. This isn't at all like adoption.
ObserverIO

@DevilsDreams - Most Kings just declare themselves Kings. But then they have lots of loyal soldiers backing their claims up. But other than the threat of violence from an army of loyal (or paid) soldiers, that doesn't mean that they're kings either.

Kings and Queens are fictitious. Names are made up. Our true names are more akin to our genetic or akeshic codes or to a perfectly written description of a feeling that defines what we call our soul.

Damn this is good weed.
ObserverIO
ObserverIO - 1/19/2024, 8:50 AM
@Origame - Somebody had to take the name at some point for Shmi to be named Skywalker. I seen that movie more times than the recommended dose and I ain't ever once seen that bitch walk on the sky.
Origame
Origame - 1/19/2024, 9:00 AM
@ObserverIO - dude, when shmi was around the skywalker legacy was a legacy of slaves on a dead end planet. That's completely irrelevant.

ObserverIO

@Origame - So why did one of them take the name Skywalker instead of Sandwalker?
Origame
Origame - 1/19/2024, 9:28 AM
@ObserverIO - ...what does that have anything to do with anything we're discussing? So we don't know the family history of why the skywalkers were originally called skywalkers. So what? That's not what's being discussed. They could've been named the sh!tdumpers and the complaint would've been the same. Because it's the legacy behind the name that is what's being discussed.

We care about the legacy because of anakin, Luke, and Leia. Rey just took that legacy for herself.

@MarkCassidy - If I change my last name to Gates or some billionaire's last name, am I one of them? Do I become a billionaire? LOL. She's a Palpatine and will always be a Palpatine.
DevilsDreams
DevilsDreams - 1/19/2024, 9:34 AM
@Feralwookiee - Sadly I think we're stuck with Rey and the Pandaverse until old KK steps aside or retires...

I still think we were robbed of so much when they disregarded the legacy books, I know it would have been hard to follow them exactly with the real world time between the trilogies, but we had strong female characters (Leia, Jaina, Mara-Jade) that were well written, had depth to them, struggles, they did great deeds but made mistakes which allowed them to grow...

How could we go from that to the disjointed sequal trilogy and Rey Suewalker?
ObserverIO
ObserverIO - 1/19/2024, 9:40 AM
@Origame - Well nobody else was taking it, since they were all dead. Who would be more qualified to carry on the name? She was Luke's apprentice and the woman Ben Solo loved. Other than maybe Chewie Skywalker or Threepio and Artoo Skywalker, I can't think of anyone more qualified.
AvalonX
AvalonX - 1/19/2024, 9:42 AM
@MarkCassidy - oh ok, I wasn't awake that you could just call yourself after the most infamous bloodline in modern Jedi history. I guess thats a thing now, you can just identify with anything you want and it becomes reality.

It actually might have been interesting if she tried to redeem the Palpatine name but they dont see value in anything other than replacing something the audience loves with some self insert.
MarkCassidy
MarkCassidy - 1/19/2024, 9:43 AM
@AvalonX - It's... a movie?
ObserverIO
ObserverIO - 1/19/2024, 9:46 AM
@Origame - Also, there may be a blood-tie.

Rey was the daughter of a clone. Maybe even a clone herself. She wasn't the Emperor's granddaughter in any traditional sense. The strandcast would have had some of Palpatine's DNA and some other powerful force users. It's not out of the realms of possibility that there was some Vader DNA in there, since Vader was the most powerful force user that Palpatine knew at that time, one that he took great interest in.

It's even possible that Palpatine manipulated the force to create Anakin in the first place and is therefore directly responsible for the bloodline of the Skywalkers whose legacy you revere.

Add to that the fact that Rey called into her body the spirits of all the Jedi at the end of the movie, including Luke, Leia and Anakin.
Origame
Origame - 1/19/2024, 9:46 AM
@ObserverIO - "no one else was taking it since they were all dead"

Something you actually said without seeing the problem of someone taking something that didn't belong to them because the owners are dead. Ffs. What's wrong with you?
Origame
Origame - 1/19/2024, 9:49 AM
@ObserverIO - also, even based on your stretch to make her connected to anakin genetically, there still isn't a link.

And did we see Luke, Leia, or anakin say "you're a skywalker"?

Besides, even if they did it would've been the butchered versions mark Hamill said he fundamentally disagreed with. In fact he had to call Luke Jake in the last jedi.

AvalonX
AvalonX - 1/19/2024, 9:53 AM
@MarkCassidy - No sir. It's a bad idea to fit the agenda of a studio head and a CEO that are bought and sold with ESG money. This should have been Luke's movie. Remember people losing it at the sight of prime Luke at the end of season 2 (Mando)? Who is even talking about or excited about this project?

Now imagine if they didn't completely screw up Luke to replace him. Imagine if this was a Luke focused rebuild the Jedi order. The fan theories would fill this site for the next 3 years.
