According to Variety, Star Wars: The Complete Saga has sold more than one million copies across the world since it was first released, breaking records for the high-definition Blu-Ray format. Making $84 million from worldwide sales, and $38 million from the US alone, it's been a huge success for Lucasfilm and Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment. Seems like those changes made by George Lucas didn't bother that many fans after all!

"Once again our fan's enthusiasm to celebrate 'Stars Wars' continues to amaze us," Kayleen Walters, senior director, marketing at Lucasfilm told the site. "Our goal was to deliver a premium product that they could enjoy with their family and friends and we are thrilled that they are enjoying it as much as we hoped they would."

"Star Wars is a franchise with universal stories that resonates as much today as it did 30 years ago," added Mary Daily, executive VP of marketing for Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment and Vincent Marcais, senior VP of international marketing for Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment. "With the Blu-ray, audiences can go deeper into the mythology than ever before and reconnect with everything they love about the saga in the best possible quality."

Did you buy the Blu-Ray set? What did you think of it? Be sure to share your thoughts in the usual place!

There is PLENTY wrong with the changes, principally they [frick]ing suck and are laughably silly. But you're right we don't have to buy em, and I won't be. I can still make fun of them. Like this..

I bought this set, and I am very pleased with it. I am not a hardcore fan of the films except I adore Ep5, knowing without Ep4, Ep5 would not have the same impact... so I have to acknowledge Ep4. Empire is in my "top 5 films of all time" that I personally determine.

I liked Phantom Menace a lot more than I did when i first saw it in 1999. Somehow I like it now. My father also watched it (seeing the prequels for the first time) and emailed me "Liam Neeson makes a great Jedi", which was the only comment on the film I got from him lol.

I am no expert on transfers or quality, just more of a movie watcher, but the Ep3 disc in particular looked really really good on Blu-Ray when compared to my other favorites.

The one thing I noticed regarding changes was that Ep1 Yoda is now CGI. I thought it looked great.

First off most of you are acting like this is some evil money grab on lucas's part, but the fact of the matter is, most ever movie is being released on blu-ray. It's nothing new. And the fact it's doing so well just proves that millions and millions of people still love star wars. INCLUDING the prequels. So suck it haters

@Azazel1...Agreed that Lucas is a Hack and has no respect for fans and in film making in general. Anyone who can continuously butcher a classic like Star Wars for profit is just simply greedy........Gone are the wide eyed wonderment I once had for Star Wars. Partially because of Lucas and his constant meddling.

You're all confused!

Naturally any self-respecting Star Wars fan hates what Lucas has done to SW since he decided to end everything with the nonsense that is Return of the Jedi. Every SW film after The Empire Strikes Back has been largely done for merchandise sales of digital FX showcasing more than for any real story telling drive.

However these are the facts:

1: The theatrical cut of these movies no longer exist, Lucas recalled them all before working on the special Editions in 1997 and destroyed them all in the process of taking the best quality frames of each reel of film to produce a digital source master. Sure theoretically the original digital source form all those frames should have been kept for reference archiving, did he do so? Apparently according to Lucas he didn't. ILM created their digital changes on that source and then made film transfers from that new master for each film.

2: Most Star Wars fans will remember around that time that they sold of the majority of the cut-up cells from each recalled reel of film in many home video, film merchandise and comic shops, they looked like this..

That's what became of the originals and most of you have a fragment of them. Yes he duped you all again!

3: Regardless of versions, Blu Ray is so far superior to any image of the SW films you'll see in comparison to any other home video format. Blu Ray is 6 times higher resolution than DVD and the theatrical cuts Lucas did actually release on DVD were not even anamorphic so the picture looked worse than an average DVD, only the special editions were released in high quality anamorphic prints. The Theatrical cut DVD was taken from a Laserdisc Master which is far less quality than what DVD is capable of.

So bearing in mind you probably will never see the original theatrical cuts of these movies ever again in the cinema or on home video (unless Lucas is lying) and the only way to see an image on your high definition TV as close to film quality as possible is Blu Ray. Then you have two choices:

1: Buy them and enjoy the movies as much as you can in all their picturesque beauty most of us have never witnessed this perfect before, even in the cinema!

2: Or keep watching upscaled and blocky artefact filled versions of these movies on VHS and DVD for the rest of your life.

If you don't have a high definition TV or Blu Ray player then the decision is made for you because you're still living in yesterdays analogue-age! However if you do have a High Def TV or a Blu Ray player then consider the following picture comparisons before making any more rash statements about not buying these Blu Rays (right click on the Blu ray picture and select "View Image" to see full definition of picture and image size)...

@Ceejay, thanks for the comparisons.

That 'smudge thing on the Emperor's face' was probably scratch damage to the actual print, physically covered with some cheap opaque paint. I'm still NOT adding to George's coffers. It will only encourage him to mess about with more scenes for the successor to Bluray.

Ceejay: Well, the thing is: brain overload.

Really, there´s no doubt that Blu-Rays have terabytes plus terabytes of information.

But our eyes and brains can take only so much.
Really, i had a headache with "Terminator Salvation" on a buffed hometeather.

So there´s no guilt in living in the past, no need to burn and squeeze our pleasure centers as there´s no tomorrow.

@Ceejay What are you talking about? The theatrical cut does exist, Lucas couldn't go to peoples houses and take their versions they bought. I got the box set of the OT before it was re-mastered for my birthday when I was 11, and Lucas never came and got mine. Also you can download it online,.
