I think Transformers will make more as it has a successful first movie while T3 was awful... and fans of the original two (like myself) sometimes feel that this is Jim Cameron's baby and should have been left alone after 2

Don't worry Grif, the lazers are coming. I read the official prequel and the characters are aware that there are rumors that Skynet is working on developing them.
MetalHead
MetalHead - 5/8/2009, 3:08 PM
Yeah, throughout the book all of the characters are thinking about the fact that they are just waiting until Skynet eventually upgrades everything, which they all know will inevitably happen. The soldiers are of the mindset that eventually Skynet will create equipment that eliminates every one of the advantages that they have over it. They think that if they can beat Skynet with a grenade launcher, eventually Skynet will create Terminators who can't be stopped with a grenade launcher. If the Resistance has an advantage of speed, they feel that eventually Skynet will get faster. It's the old "you draw a knife, I draw a gun" cliche. So yes, we are going to be seeing everything upgraded throughout the course of these films.

By the way Bale was talking to the chained Worthington, do you think Worthington is playing the T-800?

Connor said he killed his mother and father. That was the T-800...

your thoughts?
MetalHead
MetalHead - 5/8/2009, 3:35 PM
No, although it did cross my mind as well. The only reason I say that is supposedly Worthington's character, Marcus Wright, is some sort of hybrid half human/half Terminator. But you never know-- maybe by that they mean that it will be the first sign of any Terminator with living tissue over their metal endoskeleton (as opposed to the T-600s which have rubber skin and which we'll be seeing plenty of in this film). However, I am under the impression that he's something that we have not yet seen in any of the films thus far.

MarkCassidy - 5/8/2009, 3:41 PM

It looks very good..great even, BUT there is that McG factor, Remember, the [frick]ing Spirit had a good trailer! But im optimistic anyway. Dont like that PG13 business, greedy swine couldnt bare to let the kiddy dollar go huh? I wouldnt be surprised if they stopped making movies for adults altogether in a few years.
Macksimus
Macksimus - 5/8/2009, 4:15 PM
I've been reading some early reviews of Salvation, and they are pretty mixed right now.

Some reviewers - who I thought wouldn't have liked the film - actually liked it.

There are a few points in each review that seem to keep coming up about the movie.

1.) Character development sucks. Apparently McG has placed all of the movies focus on the action. There's nothing wrong with that, but all the reviews mention how the action is too long and overly played out; that doesn't sound to good.

2.) Sam Worthington steals the show in this movie. He's being compared to a modern day Hans Solo; we'll see. Apparently, everyone has been complaining about
Bale's acting; they say he never really figures out his character.

3.) Finally, the ending apparently is very good, or at least better than the leaked ending.

This is what I gathered from the most recent reviews. There have been a lot of fakes recently, but I can vouch for a few reviews from certain sources.

I was thinking the exact same thing. There's also a trailer where Kate asks John what she should tell the Resistance if they ask where he is (he's about to go somewhere) and his reply is (pause...) "I'll be back."

Here are 10 clips from the movie; each are about 1 minute long.

However, BEWARE: MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD (especially the first clip at the top)

Damn you, Macksimus! I couldn't wait and I watched them and now I am going to have an even WORSE time waiting for this movie to come out!!! Those scenes were F'ing SICK! The trailers don't capture the feel of how awesome those scenes were, and I've loved every trailer thus far so that should say something. Every time I see something new from this movie it blows away what I had previously seen.

LOL I knew you would Metal.

I know, it was very hard for me to watch them too, but you are right; they kicked major ass.

...but man, I don't understand why John is so open about Kyle with everyone else. I figured he would only tell Kate.

Doesn't that seem kind of strange to you too???

Oh yeah, if you look around on that same site you will find some more AWESOME Salvation media (ie behind the scenes footage, new movie synopsis, new character profiles, etc...), but I'm sure you already found them LOL.
MetalHead
MetalHead - 5/9/2009, 4:17 PM
Macksimus,
I don't think in those clips John is actually telling anyone specifically who/what Kyle is. He never said anything to anyone other than implying general information that at that point everyone knew (SPOILER ALERT), which was that John was #2 on Skynet's most recent hitlist while Kyle was #1.

And John would be foolish to be so open about it cause if that information got into the wrong hands and Skynet found out for sure then Kyle would surely be dead.

Now that leads to a very interesting concept and potential plot twist. For anyone who has read many of my huge "Terminator" posts, you know that my major issue with the fact that Skynet could not know of Kyle's and John's significance prior to John defeating Skynet is that Skynet would have been attempting to eliminate John (and Sarah) in the past LONG before it became a last-ditch effort and before it only had minutes to do so. That way Skynet could send an infinite number of Terminators back to places where it was sure that either Sarah or John would be and therefore would almost guarantee success. The reason why Skynet had been unsuccessful was the fact that the majority of its information was lost and in the few minutes prior to going offline it sent the first T-800 back to 1984 with very little information on Sarah Connor.

So that brings me to a new potential concept: what if Skynet does, in fact, know of John's and Kyle's significance but cannot kill them in the past yet BECAUSE Skynet has yet to develop the time displacement equipment, and therefore THAT is the reason that Skynet is working on developing it? We know that the majority of "Terminator 5" will be centered around the time displacement equipment so maybe the concept will be that John and the Resistance need to slow (but not stop) Skynet's development of the TDE, and MAYBE at the same time as the Resistance is successful, Skynet completes its development of the TDE.

Otherwise, (SPOILER ALERT) the fact that Skynet knows who John & Kyle are in this film is completely stupid because like I have said, if Skynet knew all along that John would defeat it, why would it wait for the last minute to send back Terminators to wipe out his existance?

NOW, this does potentially pose a major issue and contradiction. IF it is true that Skynet knows of their significance in this film and is racing to develop the equipment prior to being turned offline, we know that Skynet MUST be defeated as soon as the TDE is invented and here's why:

1) (I've said this before.) Kyle Reese MUST leave the future on the exact date in 2029 so that he can arrive in 1984 at the exact age-- to the day-- that he was in the first film. According to the first 2 films this was in the year 2029, immediately following Skynet's defeat.

2) IF Skynet is NOT defeated in 2029 AND has access to the TDE equipment, (assuming that in this timeline the Resistance wins in 2032) Skynet would have 3 WHOLE YEARS to send back Terminators to spots throughout time to eliminate John/Sarah/Kyle/their ancestors/etc.

SO, the only way to make this scenerio work is to still have Skynet significantly defeated in the year 2029, but maybe not 100% eliminated, although I'm sure that there will still be major loopholes.

This is yet another reason why I F'ing HATE "Terminator 3." By changing the date of Judgment Day they significantly altered the ENTIRE timeline and world. And because time travel is necessary to the story AND because there are crucial dates involved to making the story possible, those F'ing IDIOTS shouldn't have F'ed with the timeline.

BUT, "Terminator: Salvation" still looks unbelievable.

MetalHead - 5/9/2009, 5:17 PM
It sucks because I am really looking forward to this movie and I do think that it will be awesome, but my biggest fear is that it will contradict the possibility of ANY of the films being able to happen. So where I'm positive that the movie will be awesome to watch, I know that due to the morons who made "T3" I'll end up finding a million loopholes and flaws.

And while I can't completely blame McG because he is working with the F-ups that the clowns who made "T3" created, I will give him a small amount of blame because there were ways that he could have wiped out "T3"'s existance and therefore allowing Judgment Day to still take place on August 29, 1997. Here's how:

"Supposedly," according to the T-850 the events of "T2" only postponed the inevitable Judgment Day and eventually Dyson's work was followed to the point where Skynet was still created. So here's the simple fix:

-(I have said this before.) First off, we find out the Cyberdine Systems was military-funded and therefore all of the information in the building which John, Sarah, Dyson and the 2nd T-800 destroyed was backed up elsewhere.

-Second, we see that in the aftermath of the events at the steel mill, the goverment-funded program which funds Cyberdine Systems cleaned up the mess and investigated the scene. In doing so they find the T-800's arm which was caught in the gears and ripped off by the T-1000.

-Third and finally, we see that Skynet sent back a Terminator to that date, (immediately after the events of "T2"), maybe even another T-1000, but not with the intentions of terminating anyone-- to aid and oversee the progress of Skynet's development.

There are a few routes which they could have gone with this. One would be to do something crazy like putting an additional chip under this T-800's flesh and then having it make sure that it got it into the right hands so that Skynet's development would pick up right where it left off without missing a beat. Another route would be that we find out that the CPU from the 1st T-800 (in "T1") had already been reverse-engineered enough and backed up to discs so that Cyberdine no longer needed the actual chip.

There are many other options but the bottom line is that McG SHOULD HAVE wiped out "T3"'s existance, therefore bringing us back to the timeline that we were originally following in the first 2 films. There are an infinite number of potential timelines. The main problem with "T3" (OTHER THAN SUCKING!!!) is that it took us away from the timeline that we had already been watching in the first 2 films.

shibazz - 5/9/2009, 5:45 PM
@MetalHead- yeah i hate that T3 (which i never saw) and the people who made it , tried to make it mmodern and make the "threat" feel more real by changing the date of Judgment Day. They hoped by giving a current time line that people would be titlilated into seeing a movie that "challenged their own (whoop-shit-Farley-Farley-Farley) mortality . As for me (yer mom's a Wh@re!!! ) i did'nt buy it for one second. Oh and sorry bout all that .... i am practicing my Turrets. PIGEON FUC%!!
Macksimus
Macksimus - 5/9/2009, 10:20 PM
Metalhead,
I think you are right about your third idea that Skynet sends back another Terminator to ensure its rise to power, and to also advance the development of the T-800 in order to wipe out the human resistance early on. That would be a sound strategy for Skynet to use, AND that same concept was done in the T2: Infiltrator novels. The fact that the name of the hybrid sent back in time in the novels was Serena, and the fact that the name of the female Hybrid in Salvation is also named Serna, kind of alludes to that possibility.

I mean, I can't think of any other possible way that Skynet would know about Kyle's significance this early. Some people think that because of the police tapes from T1, Skynet was able to put the pieces together and make a logical guess as to who John's father was, but I doubt that.

I think Serena is from the future, and I think the whole cancer thing is one big lie used to coax inmates like Marcus into allowing her to use their bodies for experimentation...specifically for research on how to effectively graft skin around an endo.

I don't know though. I am feeling a little apprehensive about how they plan to explain this; it better be good, and it better make sense.

Don't hate me, but i liked T3! : D It was a SUCKING movie lol, but Blondie did it for me!!! Mmmmm sucking heh heh heh, okay i'll shut up now!!

Hey, i thought the whole point of time travel is that things can change all the time? But yeah different rules for different ways you travel i guess, like in Time Cop, Back To The Future, Butterfly Effect etc etc.

METALHEAD @ I know i shouldn't ask this but whats your views on TERMINATOR: THE SARAH CONNORS CHRONICLES???? An more than just a four letter word please!!! Heh heh : D

P.s. Damn i wanna see another Time Cop coz Time Cop 2 really did suck!!!
MetalHead
MetalHead - 5/10/2009, 8:47 AM
LEEE777,
First off, I'll say that "Terminator 3" was somewhat entertaining to watch, but the flaws were just too much for me to overlook. Even the non-time travel things, like exactly what feature on police cars and work trucks is there that allows them to be remote-controlled? I can let the T-X's ability to access computers slide, as cheesy as the idea may be. What I can't let slide is the fact that no matter what abilities it had in regards to that, there is no electronic feature that allows for the gas & brake pedals to be compressed, for the gears to be shifted and for the wheels to turn, etc. There is so much STUPID stuff in that movie that was just done to try to make a cool action movie. Sorry but that was more of a Van Damme movie than something that belongs in the "Terminator" trilogy.

As far as "The Sarah Connor Chronicles" goes, I actually loved it, BUT to enjoy it you have to think of it as its own entity away from the movies and realize that it works on a different timeline. It only takes one episode to break that show's accuracies and to find major time travel flaws, but with the show I just took it for what it was and appreciated the concepts while realizing the flaws but overlooking them.

Macksimus,
I don't know why it never occurred to me to read (or even look for) any books until you just pointed that out. I did read the "Terminator: Salvation" official prequel and do have every "Terminator" comic book series (which is around 100 total comics), but the idea to look into books just never occured to me. Nice. New hobby.

I'll admit, I am ripping on this movie prematurely because there is the possibility that the writers did figure something out to make it work well, so I'll try to hold back the rest of my judgments for another week and a half.

That Serena stuff sounds interesting. I'll admit that I don't know much about the character because she wasn't introduced yet in the prequel. (Barnes, Blair, Kyle, Star and a few others were introduced.)

And as for the police tapes theory, that could actually be a pretty cool concept if done right. When you say "some people think that" do you mean that some people think that that may be what happens in this series, or was it just a reference to talking with friends, etc.? Again, IF done right that could actually be a cool concept. It would definitely fit in with the "race to develop the time displacement equipment" concept. We'll see what happens. I can't wait to watch this one a few times so I at least have some idea as to where they're going so I can work on finding the path that they might choose, and, unfortunately, work on finding the flaws.

If nothing else, the future and the scenes look EXACTLY how I have always imagined it to look. There are two scenes in particular that believe it or not I feel like I've seen in my mind for years-- the one where John finds Kyle and the one at the Terminator factory. I can't remember specifically where I read the story of John finding Kyle at the camp but the writers must have read the same story and interpreted it exactly the same way that I have always seen it in my mind. Awesome.
