Paul Walker Wanted For Terminator 5, Movie To Be A "Star Trek" Style Reboot?

The rumor is that the next installment in the Terminator franchise will reset the clock on the whole thing, brining back the original characters(note, NOT the original cast) from James Cameron's first movie. Paul Walker is also said to be wanted, possibly for the role of Kyle Reese..

What's Playing have some possible news on the still not definitely happening Terminator 5. This movie was supposed to mark the return of Arnold Schwarzenegger to the franchise, but his recent "troubles" were thought to have brought any return to the big screen to a screeching halt. Well, maybe not. The site also reveal that fast Five director Justin Lin is still on board and that rights holder Megan Ellison is still determined to get the movie made. There is also the possibility of a JJ Abrams' Star Trek style reboot. Here is an excerpt from their report..

While Schwarzenegger may not be yet ready to return to film, considering recent events, and has temporarily put his Terminator reprise on hold, Ellison and are still keen to get going on the movie.

From the sounds of things, the big guy does have a fairly substantial role in the new story - which is said to involve that original timeline being torn, again - but this Terminator would mostly be anchored by a new, younger male lead (Paul Walker’s name keeps coming up - could he possibly be Lin’s pick for Kyle Reese?).

Oh, and I think that’s where the rumors of the ‘original cast returning’ come into play - though it’s not so much the original cast as it is ‘the original characters’ from the original movie. Geddit? Like J.J’s Star Trek. What may happen, I’m told, is the creative crew might lessen Schwarzenegger’s screentime in this movie, so it’s less work and less of a commitment for him and thus, it’ll be easier to talk the big guy into doing something this year - - as opposed to whatever year he feels he’s ready to return to acting.

If accurate, pretty interesting..except for the Paul Walker bit..and the Justin Lin bit. Ah, yeah actually I don't have very high hopes for this. I actually enjoyed Terminator Salvation for what it was, granted what it was was not a good enough Terminator movie, but it was entertaining. Is there any way a 5th installment could really get things back on track with this type of rebooting? What do you think?

TopCat89@ Cause remaking things is so "hot" these days!

Personally i dont have nothing against Walker he did great roles in Running Scared and Bobby Z but remaking Terminator just doesnt sound good in my ears.
Specially if the are going to make it ridiculous non stop action movie like the third Terminator (WHICH SUCKED BIG TIME BY THE WAY)!
If they are going to make it violent, dark and gritty i could forgive!

Which road they ever go, one thing is sure. They will never top the original with it!

The movie won't work without a muscular A-lister like The Rock, Vin Diesel, or Jason Statham as the Terminator.

Paul Walker is more female eye candy so I could really care less if he plays Kyle Reese because he can't act.

Paul [frick]in Walker? What a gimp! The plot sounds passable and kinda interesting but the casting leaves a lot to be desired if true. Justin Lin wouldn't be my choice of director but who know's, he could pull it off. Maybe he could get Vin Diesel to play another Terminator

NO WHY. WHY BOTHER ! ! ! ! ! !

If anything just carry on with the series and try and pick up the pieces of the awful third and fourth instalments.

Why is The Terminator a franchise at all? Everything cool about it made it a "one and done" story. Cameron was able to pull a sequel out of it by hamstringing that story somewhat while pumping higher production values into it to compensate. Everything since that has just been painful.

Timothy Olyphant would be interesting Kyle Reese!
He looks like Michael Biehn a lot!

Gosh, won´t they ever learn..Terminator needs ENDINGS not new begginings. It´s not a series you can drag forever, the whole point is to defeat the machines.

Galactica ended, Matrix ended. PONTO, FIM, acabou. game over.

3 and 4 weren't awful, just not in the same league as the first two. Salvation had the potential to be brilliant but screwed up with Worthington's character and the whole swapping heart thing at the end. that killed it for me, but a direct sequel could build on the main plot points from it

Hollywood has run out of original ideas. Reboot this or that. Make something new and fresh, not using leftovers from the fridge. Even having reboots of comicbook movies like Superman and Spiderman. Even remakes. Come on Hollywood!!!

no need for a reboot. im burnt out on the time travel aspect of the story. just continue on in the future and finally show the war ending. the whole thing was about how badass john connor was and how he united the humans and turned the tied of the war. but we're never going to see that? stupid.

I'd prefer a Salvation sequel with an evolution of weaponry to bring the phase plasma rifles etc in,and the discovery of the time displacement equipment.

I'm gonna take a stab at this, and guess Walker is being sought out to play an older Kyle Reese being sent back in time to save Sarah Conner.

This franchise is in serious trouble, but starting from the beginning isn't the best solution. We don't want to see the good Terminator movies redone, we want the bad ones undone.

I actually like Paul Walker. Just not for this. Terminator doesn't need a reboot. Continue on from the last film. The Terminator franchise isn't like Star Trek with 6 tv shows totally over 700 episodes and 10 films. Star Trek needed a reboot to bring in new fans who may have been scared off by the sheer amount of history they would have to absorb. It's easier for a new fan to get into and follow the Terminator franchise. Besides the original Terminator film is a classic that shouldn't be messed with.

He better not be playing the terminator. He could possibly kyle reese. The only thing credible backing for him to be the therminator would be his robotic like acting abilities. Bad form movie companies bad form.
