Via Deadline, it is now officially known that the rights deal of the Terminator franchise have come to a close, as owner Megan Ellison (Killing Them Softly, Zero Dark Thirty) has enlisted her brother David Ellison (Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol, G. I. Joe: Retaliation) as part of the financial and creative backing for the new Terminator film. Not much is known about the next installment other than that the film will have a solid R-rating as planned by Ellison. Rumors have floated around the web of Arnold Schwarzenegger's return, but nothing is confirmed officially as of yet. The film has no release date.

I refuse to back off my long held beliefs that we can get a solid, quality, kick-ass Terminator film WITH Arnold, in awesome shape, WITHOUT CGI, a la' Tron: Legacy and the end of Salvation.

Salvation wasn't bad as a stand alone film, but it did NOT feel like a true Terminator film should feel. McG didn't miss the mark, he just hit the wrong one.

I'm all for keeping Bale as John Connor.
I say have him dead set on finding out more about the Terminator 2 Arnold that was sent back in time. Have him go digging for info and come across the guy that the Terminators were based off of (old Arnold). Have him be old and wore out and somehow work it out to where he gets the cybernetic upgrades similar to Worthington in Salvation, which would make for some awesome looking fight scenes!!! This would tie together all the films. Then work it out to where we see Bale send the Terminator 2 version back in time at the conclusion.

BOO YA!! Pay me!!

This is just one of those series that should really be left alone, none of the movies since T2 have really added anything good to this, besides Arnie (if he is returning) is wayyyyyyyyy to old to be reprising this role. Stallone as rocky and rambo were different, given that they were people, and that those story lines dealt with those characters later in life. The terminator is a robot lol

Why would Arnie come back? Do robots age now or does Skynet just like to build old terminators that look like other terminators they used to make?

@Stark they'll probably not even mention that he's older in appearance. If they do it'll be worked in that Skynet designed this line of T-800's to age like humans so they could blend in or something of the sort.

There is only one true terminator. If it isnt Arnold then I don't care to see it. Same goes for the Gibson-less Mad Max abortion they are working on.

I like that it will have a R-rating. If Arnold isn't involved though, I don't think I would bother watching it.

Even when Arnie got involved in a new Terminator film,we got a thud in T3. Sorry Arnold, you may be THE Terminator, but without it being being driven by the heart and soul of James Cameron, there is no Terminator anything.

Seriously though, I did enjoy it a lot, and it is probably my second favorite or favorite Terminator film. I hope they bring back Christian Bale and the rest of the gang.

I wouldn't mind Arnold having a role, but I would not want to see him as a T-800. He is definitely too old for that now, and they did not use someone with a physique like 70s/80s Arnold for the T-800 in Salvation for no reason.
GGI'ing just his face might have been cool for one scene, but I definitely do not want his full body to be CGI, especially if he is going to be there for a significant portion of the film.

Arnold should play the human character, perhaps a doctor or engineer, whom the terminator's physical shape is originally based off of.

Well, it was said that their skin is living tissue over a metal frame so I guess technically they can age in appearance while still possessing their robot abilities. Who knows? It's scifi, anything's possible.

I'll admit, as the franchise has sort of died down, I kind of thought it would be cool if they went the route of AVP and Freddie Vs. Jason and adapt Robocop Vs. Terminator into a film. That's one fight I'd love to see.

WHAT THEY NEED TO DO IS STAY TRUE TO THE SOURCE MATERIAL BUT BRING IT UP SEVERAL NOTCHES..NOBODY WANTS TO SEE THE SAME REHASHED STUFF, ABSOLUTELY BRING BACK ARNOLD, BUT NOT AS A TERMINATOR, MAYBE THE HUMAN THE TERMINATORS USED AS A TEMPLATE TO CREATE THE SKIN TYPE OR WHAT. THEY SHOULD MAKE THE MACHINES EVEN MORE DIVERSE...LIKE WHAT IF THEY HAD INTERCHANGEABLE PARTS LIKE ARMS OR LIMBS OR A TANK TORSO OR SOMETHING, JUST SOME NEW STUFF THAT WE ARENT EXPECTING.

I'd love to see this franchise come full circle. Have a sequel to Salvation leading into Kyle Reese going back to 1984, setting up a reboot.

I'm looking forward to this. I'm a huge terminator fan. I liked all of them, T3 obviously being the worst out of the 4, but we need this movie to finish up the story in 2029. Good stuff. Next we need Terminator vs Predator.
